Follow the instructions below to submit your answers for Chapter 1 Practice Problem 12, 15, 21, & 22.

Read each question in your text book and then type your answers for Chapter 1 Practice Problem 12, 15, 21, & 22 in the corresponding spaces below.

12a. equal-interval – a variable in which the numbers stand for approximately equal amounts of what is being measured. No matter if stress is being measured or if anger is being measured, numbers 1 and 2 are equal to 4 and 5.

12b. rank-order – A numeric variable in which the values are ranks, for example: class or place finished in a race. 1st, 2nd, or 3rd.

12c. nominal – A variable with values that are categories, also called the categorical varible. An example of a nominal variable would be variables like gender, or race.

12d. ratio scale – An equal-interval variable is measured on a ratio scale if it has an absolute zero point. Some scales start at the lowest number, other scales start at zero.

12e. continuous – With continuous variable, there are an infinite number of values between any two values. An example would be intervals of real numbers, any whole number from 0 to 10.

12f. discrete – A discrete variable has specific values and cannot have values between these specific values like the continuous variable. The number is either 0 or 10.

15a. Type your answers to Practice Problem 15a in the shaded boxes below. The interval has been filled in for you. The “f” represents the frequency, and “%” represents the relative percentage for each interval. The Interval was obtained by creating a grouped frequency table with Excel. You are strongly encouraged to work through the “Recommended” Learning Activity titled “Grouped Frequency Distributions and Histograms” before attempting the data in problem 15.

15b. Create a histogram from the information in the grouped frequency table in 15a. Attach your histogram as a separate document along with this answer template. Note that problem 15b is worth 5 points.

15c. In the shaded box below, describe the general shape of the distribution in 15b.

The general shape of the distribution in 15b would be symmetrical distribution, the distribution in which the pattern of frequencies on the left and right side are mirror images of each other.

21a. Explain the idea of frequency table 1-10 below:

Table 1-10 contains a nominal variable. A variable in which the values are categories as opposed to numbers. This frequency table also states the different forms of bullying, it shows the frequency of behavior of the bullies, and the frequency of reports of victims for those forms of bulllying.

21b. Explain the meaning of the pattern of results below:

I Believe that the patter in table 1-10is a unimodal distribution; the frequency distribution with one value clearly having a larger frequency than any other.
