Week 2 DQ1 Choice 1
What is the difference between present and future values? How would you use present and future value techniques in preparing a financial retirement plan? How would various required rates of return affect the decisions? Explain you answer.
Present value and future value measures the value at a specific period of time. Present value represents the value of an investment at the beginning of the investment period. For example, what the worth is currently would represent what the value would be today. Future value represents the value of an investment at the end of the investment period. For example, what the worth is in the future would represent what the value would be in specific amount of time. These values each provide techniques in preparing a financial retirement plan. The future value technique of a series of deposits consists of determining future values of regular deposit amount multiplied by the future value of retirement equals the future value amount of regular retirement deposits. For example, the amount of current savings will increase based on a certain interest rate and time period that is also referred to compounding. The present value technique of a series of deposits consists of determining a regular amount to be withdrawn multiplied by the present value of retirement equals present value amount. For example, the current value for a future amount is based on certain interest rate and time period that is also referred to as discounting. The rate of return is the amount of money earned based on the amount of money invested to track all different types of investments. The average rate for short term investments and compound rate for long term investments are two ways the rate of return can be calculated. Based on the risk of the investment, a higher project rate of return relates to riskier investments and a lower projected rate of return relates to safer investments.

Week 2 DQ2 Choice 2
What is a loan amortization schedule? How would you use it to determine your loan interest rate? What factors would affect your choice between two loans? An amortization schedule is a record of a loan showing the number of payments, payment due dates, payment amounts with principal and interest, and the balance owing after the payment. Based on the term of the loan, the interest payment from the amortization schedule divided by the remaining balance of the loan equals the monthly interest rate and then multiplied by twelve to find the annual interest rate. With loans, there are two interest rate options of a variable rate or a fixed rate with advantages and disadvantages. The variable interest rate can fluctuate based on the current market rate, whereas the fixed interest rate maintain the same through the length of the loan. A variable rate loan can result in a lower payment for short term period but the rate could rise during a long term period with significantly higher payments. A fixed rate loan provides the borrower with equal payments through the lengths of the loan but the rate does not change when interest rates drop resulting in paying a higher rate than the current market rate. Depending on the needs for the loan, a variable rate may be a selection for short term loans and a fixed rate may be a selection for long term loans but there are still risks associated with either of the choices.

...Week2 DQs DQ1 What is strategic workforce planning and how is it related to strategic business planning? What are some critical inputs for forecasting? What sorts of decisions do organizations make as a result of a workforce analysis? Strategic business planning outlines the long range perspective of the business, and sets the primary objectives and goals for the company. It directly feeds into operational planning, which defines the organizational strategies and the resources required to accomplish the long range goals. With the help of the operational planning, managers identify which parts of the business they need to hire new talent and plan for budget requirements. Workforce planning uses the feedback from strategic planning to identify business needs and assess the internal supply’s capability to meet those needs. Based on this information and the operational planning feedback, staffing levels are determined, and net workforce requirements are computed. Using this assessment along with the budgeting figures from various managers, the human resources authorizes staffing requirements, implements necessary internal talent moves (via promotions and transfer), and recruits new staff members. These action plans also include potential revisions to compensation and benefit plans in the company. In our workplace, we follow a very similar approach in assessing general business growth. However, I am working in a relatively new sub-area in our company, and we are more flexible...

Dq Week 2

...DQ1 week 2 There are five Elements of Negligence. They are; Duty, Breach of duty, Cause in fact, proximate (legal) cause, and Actual damages. An intentional tort is one where the tortfeasor was willful in bringing about a particular event that caused harm to another party. Negligence is an accidental (without willful intent) event that caused harm to another party. The difference between the two is the mind-set and intent of the tortfeasor. I will describe an example of negligence and an intentional tort. I was at the swimming pool with some of my friends and one of them accidentally spilled a small amount of baby oil on the deck area next to the pool. I didn’t see the spill until I stepped into it and went skidding about three feet across the deck. Luckily, I didn’t get hurt, but my friends all laughed about it and said I had a really scared look on my face. Now this incident was clearly a result of negligence. The next part of the story is more disturbing. My friends thought it would be even funnier to get two more bottles of baby oil and pour them all over the deck and video record people unknowingly walking across the slippery deck, and all in the hopes of getting a laugh watching someone slip and fall. I cringed but didn’t say anything as the first victim walked right into the trap. This was a pretty big guy, so when he slipped, he went down hard. I’m pretty sure that at one point his feet were actually higher than his head. He landed with a loud thud, but got up and walked...

Week 3 Dq 1 and Dq 2

...Week 3 DQ 1: In my attempt to search for academic honest in higher learning using search engines, little was found.  When I first said searching, I decided to use google.com and ask.com as my search engines.  I decided to look for academic honesty in higher learning (in its entirety).  I had more luck with my findings when I used google.com than when I used ask.com.  I picked a few websites that sounded like they'd be useful when writing a paper on the topic.  The first two that I chose to visit were findarticles.com and wiki.answers.com.  Wiki.answers.com literally gave a one sentence definition of what is believed to be academic dishonesty.  Findarticles.com gave a short and simple description on academic dishonesty in online courses and provided a few links to articles about academic dishonesty.  Those articles gave very little information on plagiarism and other terms defining academic dishonesty.  One of the articles only informed a person about using correct citations in a paper and it was only six to eight sentences long.  As with google.com, ask.com provided many links to many different colleges and academic institutions.  I'm looking for academic integrity, not links to colleges, or links to different colleges' guidelines on their ideas on academic integrity (although they could somewhat prove to be useful).  One thing that I was hoping for were statistics (real case studies) on academic dishonesty in higher learning.  I did a search using ask.com for statistics...

How much control over the project scope, price, and schedule should the contractor have under each contract type? How difficult is it to handle out-of-scope work with the 3 contract types (fixed price, time and materials, reimbursable) after an agreement has been executed? What do you see as the more common mistakes made by customers/clients or their procurement representatives as it relates to project planning and contract formulation? Now that you know the differences among a fixed price contract, a time and materials contract, and a reimbursable contract, let’s discuss some of the finer points to consider. Do you think a fixed price contract requires less management attention than a reimbursable contract? Why or why not? We typically hear of clients looking for the lowest price, and rarely does the term value come into the picture? Is it assumed that the value is there and is that a fair assumption most of the time? How do you differentiate a project plan from the project definition? To continue with the relevance of the project definition and project plan (schedule) to contracts: what components of the project definition...

For example you just failed a test, instead being negative with yourself and thinking you didn't try enough or you're not smart enough remind yourself to try harder and that you will get a good grade on the next one. By replacing these negatives with a positive thought you will keep the right attitude about most situations. If you stay positive and push away the negative thoughts it will be hard but you are able to keep a good attitude with everything. There also will be disadvantages with having a positive only mindset. Yes, it is acceptable to be positive the majority of the time but sometimes you may need a little negativity. Going back to week one, if you are always staying positive this can impact your emotional health. A family member has passed away there is no way you can be positive and not upset. You will think about the negative thoughts as well and this is a good example of not always having to be positive. If you did not have any negative thoughts over a situation like this you would not be emotionally healthy.
