...Week 2 Paper Ethical behavior is one of the most important things in the world. While that is a simple statement it is true. Ethics affect every aspect of life be it positive or negative. Ethical behavior in research is no different from the application of ethics to any other practice or activity. Unethical behavior in research can destroy careers, companies, and even the economy. Consumers and producers alike count on factual research to make their decisions. For this paper I have selected an article that depicts unethical behavior in regards to medical research. I will discuss what unethical research behavior was involved, who the injured parties were, how the unethical behavior affected parties involved, and how the unethical behavior could have been avoided or resolved? Unethical Medical Research Medical research is a hot topic regardless of what is being researched. Test methods, subjects, conditions and even what is being tested are constantly under ethical scrutiny. The article I selected is titled “Unethical Medical Studies: From Past to Present” and was written by Dana Consalvo. The article sites various cases of what would be considered unethical research by modern standards ranging from infecting unsuspecting mental patients to utilizing prisoners in jail in exchange for pardons. A known statement in regards to research in general is “first do no harm” which actually condemns the majority of the studies listed. Various examples provided depict subjects being infected...

...WEEK 2 PAPER GROUP A: EVALUATING THE PILOT AND THE DOCTOR SITUATION WAS A CATCH 22 TYPE SITUATION. THE DOCTOR SHOULD REPORT THE HEALTH ISSUE BECAUSE HE IS MANDATED TO DO SO, AS WELL AS THE FACT HE TOOK AN OATH. THERE WOULD BE NO REAL GOOD LEGAL REASON TO IGNORE HIS FINDINGS. AND AS SUCH, HE SHOULD HAVE REPORTED IT. BUT LOOKING AT THE FACT THAT THE GUY ONLY HAD A MONTH TO GO BEFORE HIS RETIREMENT, AND THE FINDINGS WOULD TAKE THAT AWAY, I CAN SEE WHERE THE ISSUE OF NOT WANTING TO REPORT IT CAN BE A PROBLEM. IF SHE HOLDS BACK THE FINDINGS, HE COULD RETIRE AND BE OK. IF SHE DOESN’T, HE WILL LOSE HIS RETIREMENT. THIS SITUATION IS THE EVERLASTING AND ENDURING ONE OF RIGHT VERSUS WRONG OR SHOULD AND SHOULDN’T…IT WILL END BADLY IF THE DOOCTOR REPORTS IT, OR IT WILL END BADLY BECAUSE IF CAUGHT, THE DOCTOR COULD LOSE HER LICENSE AND THE GUY WILL LOSE HIS RETIREMENT. SO EITHER WAY IT’S A LOSING SITUATION AND OUTCOME. GROUP B: RHONDA SHOULD HAVE KNOWN BETTER THAN TO PARTICIPATE IN THE GOSSIPPING SESSION. WHEN SHE FELT THAT FIRST FEELING OF BEING INCOMFORTABLE, SHE SHOULD HAVE ACTED ON THAT AND POLITELY EXCUSED HERSELF, THEN LEFT. THINKING THAT BY JOINING IN THE CONVERSATION AND GOING ALONG WITH IT WAS OK IS ABSOLUTELY THE WRONG THING TO AVE DONE. THERE ISN’T EVEN A QUESTION OF BEING RIGHT OR WRONG. BECAUSE WHAT SHE DID IS ABSOLUTELY WRONG SINCE IT DEMEANS HER FRIENDS AND COWORKERS, PUTS HER IN THE SAME CATEGORY AS THOSE STARTING THE GOSSIP FEST, AND IT SHOWS...

The proposed regulation can be submitted as either a separate Word document (.doc) or Adobe file (.pdf). This means you will submit two attachments to the Week 2 Drop box: (a) a Word document with the questions and your answers and (b) a copy of the proposed regulation you used for this assignment. The administrative agency which controls the regulation is Department Of Transportation. This proposed regulation interests me because I am a cigarette smoker, and I travel in between Asia and the United States periodically. I take long flights where smoking is prohibited in the aircraft, and it is difficult to people who smokes not to have any cigarette or any electronic cigarette. But also, I do understand and agree to prohibition of smoking in the aircraft is to make sure the clean air is circulating within the aircraft. This regulation would keep people who do not smoke away from second smoking and the ones who smoke put in a consideration of quitting smoking. 2. Describe the proposal / change. The proposed regulation is to amend its existing airline smoking rule to explicitly ban the use of electronic cigarettes on all aircraft in scheduled passenger interstate, intrastate and foreign air transportation. The Department is also considering whether to extend the ban on smoking (including...

...Riordan Manufacturing Active Directory POS 421 Riordan Manufacturing Active Directory Riordan Manufacturing or “RM” is a company that operates throughout the world and has offices all throughout the North American continent as well as China. With such a broad base of operation, RM requires a means to make communication and operations streamline while still allowing individual plants the ability to tap into resources necessary to complete their job. Looking back at past operations, RM has run into many problems that limited their ability to communicate effectively between individual plants. By implementing a Microsoft Windows Server Active Directory, many of the problems that have been evident will no longer exist. Many of the mundane and cumbersome operations that often cause issues can be eliminated by changing these functions into less complex tasks as noted in an article about Active Directory, “A directory service presents the opportunity to consolidate the number of repositories in use and realize a number of benefits in doing so: reduced administrative overheads, enhanced operational efficiency and tighter control over the security of user information,” (Mohamed. 2005) RM’s corporate headquarters located in San Jose California will be the focal point of consolidation efforts. The departments and facilities will fall under the headquarters plant. In essence our goal is to create a tree utilizing various grouping to help streamline the flow of information between...

...Supply and Demand Simulation Allison Mullen Microeconomics 365 March 11, 2013 Vilma Vallillee Supply and Demand Simulation Macroeconomics looks at the economy as a whole, concentrating on factors such as interest rates, inflation, and unemployment (Colander, 2010). It also studies economic growth and the government’s role to moderate the harm caused by recessions. During the simulation government intervened and tried to set a price ceiling on two bedroom apartments to provide homes for those that were struggling in hard economic times. The simulation also talked about population trends and how they affect decisions in the marketplace. For instance, an increase in population caused demand for two-bedroom apartments to increase, but a change in preferences caused demand to increase. Microeconomics focuses on individual people and individual businesses (Colander, 2010). It analyzes individual entities or activities such as supply and demand in the market, and the effects of behaviors and decisions. The simulation gave two examples of microeconomic behavior as it explained how individuals react when faced with decisions about how to spend their money. It also stated that Atlantis was considered a monopoly because it has no housing development competitors nearby. Their profit incentives lead them to raise prices and lower output in order to get the most out of consumers. In determining the rental rate for Atlantis tenants it is important to understand that more...

...Hospital XYZ November 9, 2014 Memorandum for Record: As the lead surgeon and the sole decision maker for all transplant cases, I have a dilemma on my hands. I had just received a call and was notified that a heart has become available for a transplant. I currently have 3 patients that are candidates for this heart. Time is of the essence; therefore I have decided to give the heart to Jerry, a 55 year old, married and father of 3 children. I believe Jerry is the best candidate for the transplant because of his overall situation. As I mentioned before, he is only 55 years old, married and has 3 children, the youngest has special needs. His wife does not have a higher education, or has been gainfully employed in some time. With that said, she will have a difficult time providing for herself and their children. Jerry does not have a strenuous job and is eligible for retirement in 5 years and then he can take it easy. Even though his bad heart is a result of self-inflicted steroid use during his early 20’s, the dangers associated with that use were not fully known. Since then, he has changed his life style and has a family that depends on him. With this transplant, he can live another 10 -15 years and I do not see any ill effects of him receiving this new heart and the fact that he is currently here awaiting this procedure, he can be prepped and ready to go by the time the heart arrives at the hospital making him the perfect choice. Lisa would be my choice because...

...Cumulative Bank Services and Balance In the world of banking, it is often speculated that the more accounts and services a client holds with a particular financial institution, the longer they will stay with that bank. The idea is, the more accounts they open for each client, the more dependent these clients will become to their services, and closing several accounts to join another institution requires time and effort. Avoiding these tedious tasks will manipulate a client to stay with the given financial institution longer as well as prompting them to maintain majority of their funds under the same roof. There are many studies conducted to prove this scenario that is the reason why the “cross-selling” technique has been adopted by the banking industries. The ultimate goal is clear, and all financial institutions believe that “those who die with the most money win”. Whether or not these techniques create a false sense of loyalty, the question is: Does account balance exhibit any correlation to the number of services a client holds with the bank? Numbers don’t lie, we will explore and evaluate this hypothesis using statistics and data sets from Century National Bank to prove whether or not this idea holds true. Hypothesis Statement “Does account balance exhibit any correlation to the number of services a client holds with the bank?" ...My beliefs, Values, and Clinical Gestalt with Individual’s and Systems’ Paper: The human services field requires empathy for the client, attending and listening skills, and most of all they must receive highly specialized education to teach clinicians how to become more effective helpers (Murphy & Dillon, 2003). The clinician brings special knowledge of human behavior, psychological theory, systems theory, and communication skills. A clinician’s role also requires them to have set boundaries established since they are in a unique relationship. The set boundaries established involves use of self; attending of self; and listening intently (Cousins, 1996). The Human Services field requires education, a thorough evaluation of your values and beliefs, and ongoing reevaluation of your own issues and personal growth. It also requires honesty, dignity, ethics, and a willingness to help others. An important goals of the human service professional is to assist the client in their process of self discovery and working cohesively on methods to change the behaviors that are crippling them. This can be accomplished through an established plan, implementation, and realistic timeframes. ...After reviewing the simulation involving CadMex and Gentura, I have come to the conclusion that doing business in foreign countries is wrought with obstacles. From culture to unfamiliar law to the possibility of a government coup, doing business with other countries seems to not worth the effort for American companies. According to "White and Williams, LLP" (n.d.), “International transactions and dispute resolutions require both an understanding of the law and a sensitivity to foreign culture, politics, formal and informal power structures and decision-making approaches” (para. 1). Jurisdiction would need to be addressed before any debates or agreements can be met. Does the host country have the right to hear and make a legal decision or since the company is American, would the U.S. courts be the ones to decide over any disputes? The three basic questions that need to answered before going forward are which country’s courts should have jurisdiction to hear the dispute, which country’s laws should be used to decide on the dispute, and if any foreign judgment attained overseas might be enforceable in the home country (Barclay's International Trade, n.d.)? Practical considerations to think about would be if the laws of that country would be that any more business deals wouldn’t be allowed or if the laws of that country protect the foreign business partner from any liability. The factors working against CadMex granting sublicensing agreements is that they open themselves up to the...
