...Week 3 Assignment John Smith INF 336 Professor Smith July 14, 2014 Week 3 Assignment The differences between needs identification and defining commercial equivalents are that needs identification is initial phase of a program/project when the customer comes to an organization with a need and the types of needs are identified for the project and analyzed. Once the needs are identified, these needs are then converted into commercial equivalents. That helps the potential suppliers know why it is needed and what is needed. It is preferable to separate into two stages because every organization really needs to identify why and what is needed. Nothing can be failed to spot during any of these actions. When an early supplier involvement (ESI) is implemented effectively, the value to the organization is improved tremendously. As stated in the textbook, “Early supply involvement and early supplier involvement (ESI) help assure that what is specified is also procurable and represents good value. Various organizational approaches, such as staffing the supply area with engineers, co-locating supply people in the engineering or design areas, and using cross-functional teams on new product development or product or service reviews, have been used to address effective early supply involvement.” (Johnson, Leenders, & Flynn, 2010) One of the advantages of specifying by performance is that it has the supplier with the decision making on how to “provide the most suitable product...

...Professor Abate Week 3 assignment Lei and Dalman are considering opening two more locations, and timing everything. (SWOT) stands for strength, weakness, opportunity, and threats. Strength By talking and discussing the possibilities of op another franchise in another location, is actually a good thing. Lei and Dalman know that if they are going to do this, then they need to act quickly. Acting on something such as opening another business, requires time consuming. There initial capabilities and resources will give the company a competitive advantage. Weaknesses I think one of the weaknesses that Lei and Dalman has to consider should the franchise be a small expansion, or should they try something on a larger scale. Any company can suffer if it has a poor brand recognition. What Lei and Dalman need do is suggest how best to position a company against a rival that is stronger. Opportunity After noticing the two other franchise operations that offered food and beverages similar to that of sandwich blitz; the companies may not have entered the market yet, but having the resources to open two additional locations, only if good places are found. When opportunity knocks then answer, and when wanting to expand a chain of franchise, location is important. The classy the location, the better the business will be. Threat A possible threat since the recent economic downturn has adversity affected the occupancy rates. Lei and Dalman need to act quickly it they want to go forward...

...Week 3 Assignment 1.1 Karen Gassler Professor Evans ENG115 April 26, 2013 In the story, “On Becoming a Writer” by Russell Baker, he shows a great example of chasing after a dream. At such a young age in his life when people claim you have no clue where or what you want to do with your life, he was able to figure it all out. Mr. Baker was able to show that anything in life is possible as long as you stick to it and give it your all. Russell was not someone who enjoyed English. In fact, he hated and dreaded taking English in his high school years; he recalls it as “dull and baffling.” (p 66). When he entered his third year in high school, he would have never guessed that at some point in that year, he would finally realize what he wanted to do with his life. Not only did he figure out what he wanted to do with his life, but he also found out it would be in something that he once in his life hated! “He constantly sprinkled his sentences with “don’t you see.” It wasn’t a question but an exclamation of mild surprise at our ignorance.” (p 67). Russell Baker can recall how everyone would simply made fun of Mr. Fleagle for making such a misunderstood statement. I found this to be one of the most important parts of his story. He makes it clear that even the tiniest statements that someone makes to you can mean so much more when you really understand it. No one ever understood what Mr. Fleagle was trying to make by saying this statement all the time until Russell was graded on...

...WEEK 3 ASSIGNMENT 22.10 Holly Hill ltd v. Charter Bank Introduction: Holly Hill purchased land from Rogers and Blythe and they gave them a promissory note and mortgage. The note stated that note with interest is secured by a mortgage on real estate made by the maker in favor of said payee. The terms of said mortgage are by reference made a part hereof. Later on, Rogers and Blythe assigned the note and mortgage to Charter Bank to obtain a loan within a few months they defaulted on their loan obligation. Charter Bank sued Holly Hill to recover on the note and the mortgage. Legal Issue: Does the reference to the mortgage in the note cause it to be nonnegotiable? The Law: An instrument is not negotiable if it states that payment is conditional, the terms of the promise must be determinable form the face of the instrument. Therefor, if an instrument stated that it is subject to or governed by another agreement, it is not negotiable. Case Analysis: Holly Hill incorporated the terms of purchase money mortgage with their promissory note therefore, the note was non negotiable. As a result Charter was not a holder in due course and was subject to any defenses Holly Hills raised against other parties. 23.8 General Investment Corporation v. You want to ensure your audit program addresses all relevant assertions for sales and accounts receivable. Address the following question in the context of the audit sales and receivables for this manufacturing client. Required 1. What is the purpose of an audit program? The purpose of an audit program is to document the decisions made concerning the audit procedures that the auditor deems are necessary to reach a reasonable assurance that the financial statements are presented fairly in all material respects (Boynton & Johnson, 2006). 2. ...Utilitarian Theory Derrick Grant PHI 208 Instructor Brian Enden 10/13/2014 Introduction The utilitarian theory is a theory that I myself, do agree with. The utilitarian theory is based on the concept of choosing the act that creates the greatest amount of happiness, when given a choice between two acts, basically it states that the worth of something is determined by how useful it is to society. Discussion A very controversial topic of discussion nowadays is whether or not marijuana should be legalized or not. I think that the utilitarian theory could and should be applied to resolve this issue. Over the past couple of years, different states have been taking votes to legalize marijuana. Some states are already legalized for a person to both possess and use it, and there’s many more states in the process of having marijuana legal. Compared to alcoholic drinks, marijuana is basically harmless. Marijuana is known to make people happy and have a sudden appetite to eat, which some call “havracism. munchies”, but in the case of alcohol, I’ve witnessed how it makes some people angry, violent, incoherent, and unable to control their balance. Many people have been killed in car accidents, due to one of the drivers being intoxicated with alcohol. Also, persistent, constant drinking of alcohol, can cause problems with one’s liver after so long. In comparison between the two (marijuana and alcohol), when you weigh the pros and cons of them both, it seems that...

...class. So NO talking equals getting stickers and at the end of the week we can trade the stickers in for something special. Observational learning is the process of learning by watching others. For example with my child, he does what I do so if I say a bad word so will he and if I eat my vegetables he will do the same. Social learning is also learning by watching others but on the emotional side. For example at work if someone keeps calling for help and I notice my coworkers getting upset at it I might end up getting upset also. 2. How is prejudice developed and nurtured through classical and operant conditioning? Give specific examples that demonstrate each kind of learning. Prejudice is learned when a negative attitude is directed towards a specific type of person solely because of their role in a certain group. Prejudice is developed and nurtured through classical and operant conditioning from three elements which are affective ( emotions about the group) behavioral( negative actions toward the group) and cognitive ( stereotypical beliefs about the group). People learn prejudice the same way they learn the same way they learn through classical and operant conditioning. For example repeated exposure to stereotypical portrays of Muslims no matter what country they are from teaches children that Muslims are bad people. Similarly hearing other people express their prejudices also reinforces prejudice. 3. You are...

...Eco550 Week 3 Chapter 5 1. The forecasting staff for the Prizer Corporation has developed a model to predict sales of its air-cushioned ride snowmobiles. The model specifies that the S vary jointly with disposable personal income Y and the population between ages 15 and 40,Z, and inversely with the price of the snowmobiles P. Based on the past data, the best estimate of this relationship is S= K *YZ/P where k has been estimated (with the pst data) to equal 100. If Y=$11,000, Z= $1,200, and P=$20,000 a) what value would you predict for S? Answer: The given function is S=K*YZ/P at the given values of; k=100 Y=$11,000 Z=$1,200 P=$20,000 the value of S is: S=100(11000*1200)/20000= $66,000 so there would be a sales of $66,000 at above given values. 5. A firm experienced the demand shown in the following table. a. Static budget: Variable Costs | $7 per student 800 students | $ 5,600 | Fixed Costs | | 40,000 | Total Costs | | $45,600 | B. Static budget variance: | Static Budget | Actual | Variance | | Variable Costs | $ 5,600 | $ 3,650 | $1,950 | Favorable | Fixed Costs | 40,000 | 42,000 | 2,000 | Unfavorable | Total Costs | $45,600 | $45,650 | 50 | Unfavorable | C. Flexible budget based on actual volume of students: Variable Costs | $7 per student 730 students | $ 5,110 | Fixed Costs | | 40,000 | Total Costs | | $45,110 | D. Flexible budget variance: | Flexible Budget | Actual | Variance | | Variable Costs | $ 5,110 | $ 3,650 | $1,460 | Favorable | Fixed Costs | 40,000 | 42,000 | 2,000 | Unfavorable | Total Costs | $45,110 | $45,650 | 540 | Unfavorable | E. Because flexible budgets reflect more accurately the variable costs, the quality of variance information is higher. When actual volume is less than the static budget volume, static budget variable costs are overestimated. When actual volumes are greater than static budget volume, static budget variable costs are underestimated. For the copy center, the static budget was 800 and actual student use was 730. Accordingly, the static budget variance is higher than it should be. The quality of variance information for fixed costs is the same for the two types of...

...Week 3 Tiika Massenburg BUS 508 Dr. Alan R. Tillquist January 22, 2013 Sam Goldman and Ned Tozun are entrepreneurs who are started a socially responsible company. Their main goal is to bring light to the more than 1.5 billion people that are without light In 2006, Sam, now the CEO, and Ned, the President, classmates at Stanford’s Graduate School of Business founded D.light Design . Sam was in the Peace Corps in Benin and saw many children injured and burned by kerosene lamp accidents. He wants to eliminate the need for kerosene lamps for the safety of the children.. The team views kerosene as a dirty, dangerous, unreliable and expensive form of lighting that current technology should be working to replace and eliminate. D.light’s mission statement reads, “We will replace every kerosene lantern in the world with high quality and affordable light and power solutions, thereby providing everyone access to a basic human need: safe and bright light (Toder, 2009).” The owners by virtue of trying to supply light to places where kerosene lighting is the leading source of light are more focused on social responsibly than profit. Many of the intended customers will barely be able to afford the product. That customer base alone demonstrates that profit is not the main focus of the company. Since social responsibility is more important than profits the company management style is different than a profit based corporation. The company values customers. Decisions...

...The Quality of Water: Tap and Bottled Water Tiffany R. Jones SCI 207: Dependence of Man on the Environment Instructor Leslia Wilson 3/2/2015 Introduction Body Paragraph #1 - Background: The debate of water quality and the effects it has on the public is one that has a lot of weight to it. The advancement of water testing has evolved into one that is of meaning, and is talked about frequently. Efficient testing of the water supply makes way for people to know what they are drinking. According to the Environmental Protection Agency (n.d.), “Climate change can have a variety of impacts on surface water, drinking water, and ground water quality.” In testing the water quality and contamination, the EPA regulates a lot of different ways to get the water clean to get it to become drinkable. According to the Centers for Disease Control (n.d.), “Even though our tap water supplies are considered to be one of the safest in the world, water contamination can still occur.” The occurrence of this is because of places not being regulated and inspected properly. Coming out of the Natural Resources Defense Council (n.d.), “Studies have shown that chemicals called phthalates, which are known to disrupt testosterone and other hormones, can leach into bottled water over time.” The plastic used in that of bottled water tends to have an effect on the human body, and can pose a threat. Body Paragraph # 2 - Objective: There is still a lot to be learned about the difference between tap...

...Renea Layne INF 336 Project Procurement Management Professor Brian Kraus July 23, 2013 Describe the differences between needs identification and defining commercial equivalents and discuss why it is preferable to separate into two stages. There are numerous steps that include the need for identification that is based upon production as well as service delivery timelines and schedules. The places that these must be met along with communicated with is through the verification of the greatest importance. Outlaw (2009) believes that product specifications, standards, and requirements are set forth through ISO certification or the industry certification can and will play very important roles. While also the need for identification they must also consider compliance and quality assurance. Even though price is a primary consideration purchasing agreements devoid the specification consideration, transportation costs, manufacturer capacity, rating and/or ISO certification would increase risks to the company (Avery, 1996; Cutchins, 2009). Because it is based on the aforementioned process, the purchasing managers can then investigate the products availability. This often draws with the established relationship of vendors as well as manufacturers, purchasing managers and can discern whether offering meet the minimum requirement specifications, and whether delivery or quality may be problematic and which requirements could be utilized. With this, the first step that would be...
