CHAPTER 9
1. As the director of training in Cruise Lines International Association, I would chose outdoor and recreational activities as the best motivation for travel marketing sales seminars. This is because in attendance will be travel agents and tour company representatives. This will help to enhance team building throughout the group hence increase the level of performance among the members. It has been noted that the employees in CLIA lack effective communication skills, through outdoor activities; it will be easier to educate these employees about the skills they need to improve their performance in the workplace. Outdoor activities will provide a platform for each individual to learn about the others personalities, likes and dislikes. Since most of the employees in CLIA work as a group, it will be easy for the employees to work together towards accomplishing important tasks for the members.
2. I would use several instructional and teaching methods to ensure that I have solved the preceding problem in Cruise Lines International Association. I would use teacher directed method to ensure that I have interacted with every employee at an individual level. This method would help to enhance direct interactions and discussions about the problems each individual faces and discuss effective solutions to these problems. Using a blackboard and a chalk, I would clearly outline the problems being faced by the organization and the importance of employee participation. I will also seek to teach the employees about the communication skills and the need to have interpersonal relations in the workplace (Sparapani, 2013).
CHAPTER 10
1. A sports museum and other forms of entertainment should be provided to the tourist center so as to encourage spending. The first step would be to open a movie theater for the visitors. This would be a huge step of ensuring that people are kept entertained. Hotels providing food and different forms of delicacies should be opened in the area. This would encourage tourists to have accommodation and enjoy their favorite meals in the area. A music band should also be provided every night to improve the moods of the visitors. A gift shop and a mall should also be opened in the area to ensure that visitors purchase their souvenirs in the area. This would be a great step of improving spending in the area.
2. Being a director of an area of tourism organization in my area, I would consider several factors that are important in promoting a Shakespearean festival in my community. These include; the social and economical impact of the festival in the community. Apart from accessibility of the area, it would also be important to consider product factors, pricing factors, process and convenience and also human factors so as to evaluate the satisfaction with the local festivals. The cultural event could be publicized through promotion and advertisement activities on the local television network. Since many people are currently using social networking platforms for their communication, these would be used as important tools of promoting the cultural activities (Sparapani, 2013).
CHAPTER 11
3. There are several kinds of social contacts that would be beneficial to the hosts and the members of the tour group that will help to maximize the social benefits in the trip. These include; exchange, competition and cooperation. Exchange is described as a social process where social behavior is often exchanged for some type of reward that is equal or is of a greater value. In most cases, the rewards are either material in nature or can be non material. The second form of social contact would be competition. This form of interaction helps to motivate people in their achievement of goals and new opportunities. The third type of social interaction is cooperation. This is a form of social interaction whereby people work together in the achievement of common goals. Conflict is also beneficial in the achievement of social quo and status. Conflict results from the struggle of agency and power within the society with an aim of gaining social control within the society (Carlstedt, 2010).
4. The employees of the popular resort hotel can be used as competitive advantage for the business that is situated in a high crime rate. In order to prevent the customers from moving into the South Seas casino, the employees can first ensure that they have provided a superior customer service. This would not only attract customers but also ensure that customers do not go to the competitors. Secondly, employees should also treat the customers as the king of their businesses by improving their operational efficiency. This would not only help to motivate them to have improved performance but will also increase their contribution to their organizations. Thirdly, employees should be willing to talk and show their respect to their customers. This will help the customers to feel excited and also will motivate them to come to the resort hotel (Hoskisson & Hitt, 2008).
