Week Four Reflection

In this week’s reading assignment, our team learned some useful information about this week’s learning objectives that we apply to our daily jobs. In our conversation we also discovered that each team member has either experienced or witnessed some of the influences that can have an emotional impact on organizational structure, organizational culture and power and politics within our own individual organizations. Our team had some interesting thoughts about what influences organizational structure can have on behavior as well as what influence organizational culture can have on behavior and most importantly how power and politics can have an influence on behavior within the workplace.
Organizational Structure on Behavior Organizational Structure can be found in every organization regardless of the size of the business. Organizational Structure defines how the job responsibilities will be assigned to each employee. This can have an influence on an employee’s behavior, for example being in the military every position within the organization is clearly outlined and defined, which allows the organization to be disciplined and controlled. In the business world some managers follow six stages when putting their company’s organizational structure in place which also contributes to the influence of the employee’s behavior.
Six Elements Work Specialization clearly outlines the employee’s specific job duties. Departmentalization defines how the jobs will band together, for example the accounting department handles all areas of accounting within their specialized department. The Chain of Command outlines who the employees will report to. Span of Control is used to allow managers to efficiently guide the employees that report to them. Centralization and

I came into the week with some unanswered questions and after the reading and discussion questions, they were answered.
