Discussion Question 1:
In your own words, how would you describe the control function of management?
My definition of the control function of management would simply be explained as controlling the environment. Management is in charge of making sure everyone is doing their assignment requirements for their position. Doing this function gives management a better understanding of which employees are performing their duties and which employees might need a little push in the right direction.
Why do you think the controlling function of management has a negative connotation?
I figure the word alone gives off negativity, “controlling.” I mean who really wants to be controlled? Even if the controlling happens in a work place the word can still sound a little negative. When one works with others they would like to think of everyone working together not one being controlled be another.
How would you say the controlling function of management has evolved?
I believe the evolution of controlling function of management has evolved by adding a Human Resources department. Think about how business was back in the 1930s if you were caught doing something not in your normal duties you were just fired on the spot, there was no way to fight for your job back, no one to stand up for your rights and defend you, you were straight out of luck and just out of a job.

Discussion Question 2:
What are some different types of control mechanisms that you have seen used?
Well one control mechanism that seems to help many businesses to control employee hours and also helps the payroll department is a time clock. I have worked a in both types of businesses where there were no control mechanisms to help with keeping track of employee hours and where there was a fingerprint scanner to keep track of hours. I noticed a lot of dishonesty when there was no time clock compared to having one.
