...Assignment One, week One COM/156 July 24, 2011 Lisa Acerbo Assignment One, week One When writing a research paper, there can be some challenges to overcome. My first thought is what challenge do I have and need to overcome in order to write a great paper. The first challenge is keeping the readers interest and attention. It is very important to keep your readers interested in your writings and it can be hard trying to read something that you are unable to keep your attention on. Keeping the information of my writings to the research and subject will help this challenge. Another challenge can be determining an appropriate style and tone for my paper. Being consistent with my ideas in my style and tone, will keep the paper flowing with information and the reader will be able to understand the point I am trying to make. The third challenge is being persuasive enough in my writings and research papers. Also, being able to put my thinking and research into words and get my point across, but also integrate enough material from my sources to keep the paper persuasive and catch the reader’s attention will provide the needed steps to a great research paper. When writing my research papers, the strategies I want to utilize for my challenges are: finding an interesting subject to do my research on, and utilize as much information I can to write an interesting paper. By using as many resources I can, will insure that I have plenty of information to include in my...

...The user is the weakest link in an IT infrastructure. Anyone with access to the system can knowingly or unknowingly compromise the system. User insertion or personnel devices, attacks or acts of sabotage by disgruntled employees and lack of user awareness. Let’s take a deeper look into the three scenarios. Personnel devices are a major problem in the IT community. People’s home system security may not be as stringent as the one at the business. For example, a user could bring a virus from a home computer and transfer it to business’s network from and infected USB drive. Since the virus would be coming from and unexpected source, it could potentially bring down the entire network. One way to combat this would be to disable internal CD drives and USB ports. This can be supplemented by enabling automatic antivirus scans for inserted media drives, files, and e-mail attachments. Employees become disgruntled for many different reasons. People are passed up for promotions they feel they deserve or are downsized and want to do harm to the company before the leave. Depending on the positon that the employee holds, they could do some serious damage. A good example would be if an employee in the IT security department decided to release a virus to take the system down. This could set the business back severely depending on how far it’s allowed to get before it’s caught. Companies should monitor abnormal employee and erratic job performance if they want to prevent these type of activities...

...of powerful, dynamic individuals, who command victorious armies, direct corporate empires from atop gleaming skyscrapers, or shape the course of nations, (Yuki, p.1, 2010). This paper will provide the definition of leadership with emphasis on situational leadership approach. Strengths and weaknesses of situational approach and an organization that uses this approach to teach their managers how to lead will also be provided. “Leadership is the ability of an individual to influence, motivate, and enable others to contribute toward the effectiveness and success of the organization”, (House et al; 199, p. 184). Situational approach to leadership was developed by Pat Hersey a professor and Ken Blachard a leadership expert who wrote ‘the one minute manager’. Situational approach emphasizes the importance of contextual factors that influence leadership processes. Characteristics of followers, the nature of the work performed by leader’s unit, the type of organization, the nature of the external environment are taken into consideration with the situational approach. This approach discovers the extent to which leadership processes are the same or unique across different types of organizational levels of management and cultures. It identifies aspects of the situation that “moderate” the relationship of leader’s attributes (traits, skills, behavior) to leadership effectiveness. Different attributes will be effective in different situations and the same attribute is not optional in...

...When you’re writing anything beside you free write which you really don't have to show to anyone because it's meant for you to read. But when you’re writing anything you always want to think about your audience first because they are the ones who will be reading you work. Lets say you writing a children's book you don't want to write something about someone getting hit by a car, how much they was bleeding and they lived to see another day. It might sound nice that they lived but this is not the type of book you would want children reading at a young age can scar them. You want to make sure that the way you’re speaking in a children's book is sweet, nice, and fun for them to be happy. Now for another example if I was writing a movie script I would have a bigger audience, I would want to choose what type of move am I going to write if it's a comedy I would want to make sure the stuff I'm writing is funny something you can go home to and crack a joke about it to one of your friends. If it is a documentary then I'm going to want to make sure that I have all the details about that I'm talking about so it is a quick movie and no one really understood what I was talking about. Your audience is your key to anything you write its best you think about how you want to speak to them threw your...

...either tea or coffee. For lunch sometimes I either just snack around the office with popcorn or pretzels or whatever else my craving is for that day. However it’s usually something light, rather having something really heavy. Then for dinner I usually cook every night of the week which consists of one meat, vegetable, and a starch. When fixing my plate I usually get ½ a cup of each individual food. However even though I do place a little more than what I am supposed to eat on my plate, there are a lot of times where I don’t finish eating. I also have found myself not trying to eat any more food after I begin to feel full. When it came to the Super Tracker on what your body needs and then what they show what I had reordered, mine has been under on just about every single food group and nutrients. The refined grains are the only thing that was actually over that I had ate in those three days of my recording. As far as how many servings in each food group I ate in was also under as well. Grains in the three days I intake 6 ½ ounces, vegetables 2 ¼ cups, fruits I intake ½ cups, dairy was 1 ¼ cups, protein foods was 5 ounces, and oils I intake was 2 teaspoons. This assignment has showed me that a lot of my problems with other health issues I have could be coming from the fact I don’t consume all of the food groups. I am going to continue using the Super Tracker on a daily basis to try and even out my foods. I am going to look further into more...

...Chapter 9 In this case, Family Health Care (FHC) and Dennis Winkel had a written employment contact. A modified verbal contract was entered into which included a higher salary for Winkel as well as profit-sharing bonus. FHC delivered on increase in salary but failed to execute on the profit sharing. The issue is whether the verbal contract is sufficient to override the written contract between the two parties. Montana law states a written contract can be altered only in writing or by an executed oral agreement. FHC did not execute on the profit-sharing and therefore may not be liable to pay. FHC upheld the modified oral agreement when it paid the higher salary. Executing part of the verbal contract could infer acknowledgment of the modified written contract to pay the profit-sharing. Vranich defense was that there contract could not be enforced because it was not in writing. Presenting this defense seems unethical only if there was actually a verbal amendment to the written contract. Otherwise, there may be no ethics issue at all. In my opinion, Winkel should receive the profit-sharing bonus. Dr. Vranich enforced the oral agreement when the higher salary was paid and was not ethical in the decision to not honor the profit-sharing agreement. According to the case file, the jury agreed and awarded Winkel the profit-sharing. After reading the case online, there were many issues at play regarding this written, verbal contract. The best solution would have been for the...

...Analyzing Messages Comm 470 Analyzing Messages The first e-mail is from Erlene M. Clark, who is an assistant professor for the department of Architectural and Engineering Computer Aided Design (A&E CAD) at Austin Community College (ACC). The professor was inquiring about a specific course in which the A&E CAD department had articulated with the high school in which the student had attended. She was trying to give the student the appropriate credit in accordance with the articulation agreement between the high school and ACC. The procedure she was trying to do accomplish was to show a credit (CR) on the college transcript and award the appropriate number of credit hours for a specific course as stated in the articulation agreement. She was experiencing problems with the online server for that specific program in which she would enter the student identification number and proceed to award credit to the student. After she tried several trouble-shooting methods that attached to the general use of the program guide, Professor Clark contacted me. My main job description is to work with the program dynamics, work with the professors on the college level, work with the teachers in the local high schools, and make sure that the correct information entered for the appropriate student. I double-checked the system and procedures for entering the information. I also had to make sure that tasks were complete and finalized before the program had closed. The use of e-mail...

...Xeco/212 Page 1 A New House: Readiness Xeco/212 Angela Rogers Due: Friday May 24, 2103 Pamela Hammock Xeco/212 Page 2 I feel that purchasing a new home is one of the biggest decisions a family can be faced with. I know that because of the person that I am the main principle I would use when purchasing a new home is the second one, which was the cost of something is what you give up to get it. However it would be safe to say that a decision this big over a period of time would at some point factor in all 10 of the principles. I feel this way because you never know what the future may hold and if you were to make any mistakes when making this decision it could create all kinds of financial problems. If I were making a decision like this I would have to take several things into consideration. One of the things I would consider is the timing. I would want to take baby steps or so to speak, like building smaller goals and going for those first until I reach the final goal of purchasing the home. I would have to weigh my options as whether to buy a house or renting a bigger apartment would be better than the small studio. Yes we would definitely need something bigger with a baby on the way. Another thing to consider is where you would want to send your child to school especially if you are purchasing a home. You would also have to consider the economy and how the real estate market is holding up. You would not want to buy a house and then the value decrease...

...Week One Assignment 1 Sametta Rose- Pollydore FIN 334 April 9, 2016 Instructor McAndrew Week One Assignment 1 A. Sonja fails to pay the second annual premium due on January 1. She dies 15 days later. When it comes to the premium which is the ordinary life insurance, the beneficiary will receive the proceeds of that policy because there is a grace period of 31 days to pay the overdue premium and by Sonja’s death occurring within that time frame of the grace period the beneficiary has the right to receive the proceeds from that policy. (Rejda, George, McNamara, 2014). B. Sonja commits suicide three years after the policy was purchased. When it comes to this situation, there is a “suicide clause” that states that if the insured commits suicide within two years after the policy is issued the face amount of the insurance will not be paid but, there will only be a refund of the premiums paid to the beneficiary. (Rejda, George, McNamara, 2014). In this case Sonja committed suicide three years after the policy was purchased so the beneficiary will receive the proceeds of the policy because the suicide clause has expired. C. At Sonja's death, the life insurer discovers that Sonja deliberately lied about her age. Instead of being 25 years old, as she indicated...

...principles. It will include information of the variations in how each concept details ethics and morality and it will also talk about an experience to describe the relationship between quality, principles, and ethical principles as their associate with one of the three principles. Differences in How These Theories Address Ethics and Morality Virtue ethics emphasizes on virtues rather than the rules or consequences whereas deontology emphasizes on duties and their adherence to rules, and utilitarianism puts more emphasizes on the consequences of an action while considering what action creates the greatest good for the most. In our weekly readings we found that virtue ethics is also known as an agent based or character ethical theory (Boylan, 2009). In using this approach one must look to do well in all that they do in life. This theory is where many believe in the old saying, “do unto others as you would be done by”. When we look at utilitarianism we see that it sets its strength on the consequences of a moral action and its outcome. According to Boylan (2009), utilitarianism sets that an action is morally right when the action produces more total utility for the group that any other alternative. In this ethical theory one is forced to consider the consequences when presented with an ethical decision. In the deontological ethical theory we see that it places more ethical weight on the adherence to laws and/or rules to judge what is considered ethical. This emphasis...

...Fixed line vs Cellular Cell phones have limited coverage area, unless in a big city with a lot cell phone towers, but there are other ways the signals can be blocked as well. Which makes a cell phone less dependable. The batteries in a cell phone need to stay charged to make or receive calls, and as long as it is charged you can use your phone any time even if you are somewhere where there is no power. Cell phone plans are usually cheaper is you are just getting a plan to talk on the phone and not a plan that includes data. A land line always works (unless it a cordless phone and the power goes out). You do not need to charge a land line phone that is connected to the wall, and you do not have to worry about a weak signal. The cost is more especially if you need to make long distance calls because that is not included in a normal plan. Voice vs Data Cell phones use both, you can use the voice and data at the same time because they no longer use the same antenna. Landlines phones use both, the key tones use data because the tones transfer as data, and you talking is using the voice SMS/text uses data, and is transferred as a message with characters over the data network Fax uses the data, when a fax is sent it gets immediately digitized and packaged in secure TCP packets and sent to natural data inc and then secure networks operation center for final delivery. Pagers use data, they receive a number via a small screen from incoming callers VOIP uses the data network...
