There are different types of music, art and food that cultures will enjoy. There are many different types of cultures around the world. I am Spanish and have grown up in a Spanish culture. The most important part of a Spanish culture is family. When I first thought about what my culture is, family was the first thing that came to my mind. Within my family we are close and are there to support each other. My family can always count on each other for help. The Spanish culture makes every effort to teach the children in the family about being respectful, having good manners and family values. When there is a holiday we tend to have big family events and the majority of the family will attend. These events will include music, food, sometimes dancing and a lot of fun. Some of the arts that we enjoy will include dancing and music. When my children were young they took Flamenco Dancing. Flamenco dancing is a traditional folk art dance...

...Running head: LEADERSHIP APPROACH Leadership Approach University of Phoenix Leadership Approach Countless managers work tirelessly each day to help create thriving and dynamic organizations. Some of these managers possess unparalleled leadership qualities while others lack the knowledge and appropriate people skills to motivate and empower employees. Managers and Leaders have varying definitions. A manager can be effective without leadership qualities and a leader can be effective without management skills. However, in chapter one of Organizational Leadership, Yukl (2010) states, “defining managing and leading as distinct roles, processes, or relationships may obscure more than it reveals if it encourages simplistic theories about effective leadership (p. 8). The following paper provides an overview to the leadership approach of behavior as well as provides a description of the strengths and weaknesses of this approach. Behavior Approach The Behavior Approach began in the early 1950s after researchers declared the Trait Approach as being an ineffective means for identifying positive leadership qualities (Yukl, 2010). Researchers believed the key to successful leadership included the positive behaviors management displayed while on the job. Additionally, management stated behavior research falls into two general subcategories: (1) how managers spend their time and the typical patterns of activities, responsibilities and the functions for managerial jobs and (2)...

...Assignment One, week One COM/156 July 24, 2011 Lisa Acerbo Assignment One, week One When writing a research paper, there can be some challenges to overcome. My first thought is what challenge do I have and need to overcome in order to write a great paper. The first challenge is keeping the readers interest and attention. It is very important to keep your readers interested in your writings and it can be hard trying to read something that you are unable to keep your attention on. Keeping the information of my writings to the research and subject will help this challenge. Another challenge can be determining an appropriate style and tone for my paper. Being consistent with my ideas in my style and tone, will keep the paper flowing with information and the reader will be able to understand the point I am trying to make. The third challenge is being persuasive enough in my writings and research papers. Also, being able to put my thinking and research into words and get my point across, but also integrate enough material from my sources to keep the paper persuasive and catch the reader’s attention will provide the needed steps to a great research paper. When writing my research papers, the strategies I want to utilize for my challenges are: finding an interesting subject to do my research on, and utilize as much information I can to write an interesting paper. By using as many resources I can, will insure that I have plenty of information to include in my...

...Currently, I approach weekly course reading material in a fairly unconventional way. My weekdays are usually incredibly hectic between my job of working with my clients and my day to day personal life with my children, so finding any quality reading time is hard during the day time hours. I generally have all reading material downloaded to my laptop in advance as we all should so I can get in a bit of reading time during my break time and my clients nap time. The problem with this is, even though it is quiet and my break time, there is still quite a bit of activity going on around me having to deal with small odds and ends, breaking any concentration I have and understanding of the text. I do get a small amount of time in peace when I get home and right before the kids get home after school in which I use to get in some reading and study time. This time is definitely quality time as my concentration is at its greatest and I can get something done. The night hours, usually after dinner, is where things have been really difficult as this is the time where the bulk of my study and reading time is. Thankfully my fiancée has begun to rectify this problem for me (when he is home from work himself) by keeping the kids busy with various things and away from me during this time so I can actually get quite a bit done in peace and...

...Week One - Homework Practice Exercises 1 1. The night shift was not necessarily safer. It might just be that there are fewer workers on the night shift. You would need to know the number of workers and the hours they are working to figure out the rate at which accidents happen. This is a problem of a missing denominator. 2. (a) There are many more Camrys on the road than Escalades (b) Because the theft rate is higher, the Escalade is more likely to get stolen. 3. They should look at the complaint rate per hundred prescriptions -- not the total number of complaints. The reason most of the complaints are for CVS pharmacy could easily be because most of the prescriptions are written from CVS pharmacies. It could turn out that CVS pharmacies are doing better than other pharmacies. Practice Exercises 2 4. (a) observational (b) Prisoners who volunteer to take these courses are more likely to be interested in being rehabilitated than the ones who don’t volunteer. The confounding factor created here is the level of prisoner motivation to be rehabilitated: it influences whether or not they take the courses and also whether or not they commit crimes to return to prison. The education program may work well, but you can’t tell from this study because of this confounding factor. (c) A better way would be to choose a random sample of inmates and divide them into "treatment" and "control" groups. You then could offer the treatment group the option of attending counseling...
