Brown, Cynthia. "Kasprzak- a Hero till the End." Kasprzak- a Hero till the End. American Police Beat, n.d. Web. 19 Nov. 2012. <http://www.apbweb.com/featured-articles/2346--kasprzak-a-hero-till-the-end.html>. Policemen and women are never there for us, they don’t work in our best interest, and they are never there when we need them. These are just some of the negative and ignorant comments made about our public safety members. Although, every once and while, there is an incident reminding us of just how important they really are to us. In this case, the example was made out of the young NYPD Officer Artur Kasprzak. He was only 28 years old when he passed away a few weeks ago. Like a true hero would, Officer Kasprzak went down with bravery and courage. Artur was miraculously able to save six members of a family, including two men, ages 69 and 31. He was also able to rescue three women, ages 31, 56 and 68 and a 15-month-old boy unharmed up into his attic before the rapidly rising water was able to reach it. In doing so, he was able to save everybody else’s life but his own. His life was taken by the storm shortly after saving the lives of 12 others. Officer Artur Kasprzak died in the basement of his home on Doty Avenue in Staten Island around 7 p.m. In the eye of the storm, Officer Artur Kasprzak went out risking his life for the well-being of others. His story reminds us to be thankful for our public safety, and this here shall be missed dearly.

...Media psychology : week 6 new effects 2009111098 정연우 These days, we can easily access news program through smart phone. Recent main news is ‘Sewol-ho’. Because of the traffic accident, people think TV news and journalists offer negative and sensational issue than important fact. I also disappointed about news and other media. People trust personal media (such as Africa TV, twitter and facebook) than public TV. As a student who majored in journalism in college, that is really important issue. Why people can’t believe public media. The media observe the rule of press reports? In this chapter, we learn news value. Sensational issue is important. People usually concentrate on the sensational and exciting issue than bored things. For example, ordinary people concentrate pop star’s scandal than world economy. Or in same situation such as dealing politician, his scandal or negative things are on the rise than government policy. However we avoid focusing on only ‘sensational’ issue. For people who don’t know the issue, journalist has to receive right frame. We can’t get all information directly. Almost information is delivered through media. Other fact that reduces trust is government’s pressure. In the situation (about Sewol ho), people bring in conspiracy. We can’t convince that is real or not. External pressure always interrupts to delivery fact. For measuring effects of news, methods of delivery, expression, visual information also important. However, we have to check...

Weekly Reflection

...Learning Team Weekly Reflection Last week’s discussion is one that played a different role in most ways for our group members. We did have many similar interests concerning how economics affects business however since we all have different careers it affects all of us in a different way. Some of our most interesting discussion topics included supply and demand, recession, and resource development. Whether you are an academic, farmer, pharmaceutical manufacturer or simply a consumer, the basic premise of supply and demand equilibrium is integrated into the daily actions of our society. We found that while discussing the supply and demand relationship of economics, this is one area that has the greatest impact on economics. Demand refers to how much (quantity) of a product or service is desired by buyers. The quantity demanded is the amount of a product people are willing to buy at a certain price; the relationship between price and quantity demanded is known as the demand relationship. Supply represents how much the market can offer. The quantity supplied refers to the amount of a certain good producers are willing to supply when receiving a certain price. The correlation between price and how much of a good or service is supplied to the market is known as the supply relationship. Price, therefore, is a reflection of supply and demand. This is one topic or area our group decided plays the most significance in our careers and as a society as a whole. Without the...

Weekly Summary

...Objective Summary 1 2.1 Assess effective oral communication skills. The readings from week one had many good points about oral communication skills. That is important to keep a clear concise wording to attract the audience and deliver good results (D’O Brian 1994). This is in tune with the college of education. Many presentations must be made. Skill pertaining to speaking is necessary to have an effective relationship with colleagues, students, parents and professors devoid of misunderstandings. Of course this is not achieved overnight; practice makes perfect (Charles, 2002). The readings also emphasized body language to keep the audience interested. For example eye contact and good form of posture can suggest confidence and control which are key to successful presentation (Woolf, 2001). Effective oral communication in classroom setting determines how much students will understand and succeed. 2.2 Plan and implement strategies for managing Learning Team dynamics. In COM/516 we ended up forming learning teams that are going to be with us until we complete the program. 30 % of the student’s grade comes from team work. And it is important to be team player because future education career requires that we would be able to work with other employees and especially students. In learning team B we set certain ground rules such as deadlines that must be met. How many meetings will be held per week, who will be in charge of projects, essay or presentations....

Weekly Summary

...Security Monitoring Activities CMGT/442 May 21, 2012 Security Monitoring Activities Any company that considers data an asset must realize the importance of risk management. Managing risk helps a company identify vulnerabilities and allows actions to be taken to reduce or stop these vulnerabilities. Risk management is also helpful in the attainment of goals and higher profits by attempting to eliminate any risk that may cost the company extra money to rectify. This paper will discuss security monitoring activities that must be addressed for both internal information technology (IT) and electronic commerce (e-commerce) applications of an organization. The recommended course of action will also be discussed when potential risks have been identified. According to Bejtlich (2004), security monitoring is defined as the collection, analysis, and escalation of indicators and warnings to detect and respond to intrusions. Security monitoring is an important part of risk management for internal applications such as payroll, human resources, and inventory. Security monitoring should also be used in the risk management of external applications like sales and marketing. Security Monitoring Process Security monitoring should be considered and used as a routine task to monitor and analyze the use of the network. Failure to use security monitoring would indicate that an organization believes there are no credible risks to the network. This thought process could...

Weekly Therapy

...referral informed me that LG had witnessed domestic violence between her parents and excessive use of alcohol. It was thought that she may also have witnessed adults using drugs. The referral described occasions when LG’s carer found her very upset and crying silently. At these times it would take her foster carer a long time to soothe LG. LG has suffered from traumatic losses in her first five years. Consequently her sense of trust has been severely shaken, as was her sense of a secure base. I hypothesised that LG would not only have suffered from the experiences of loss, domestic violence, physical abuse and neglect, but from emotional neglect and broken attachments. After meeting with LG at her foster carer’s house 5 months ago, weekly play therapy sessions began. Throughout this time I have reviewed the therapy regularly with LG’s foster carer and regularly discussed the therapy with LG’s social worker. LG uses every session to its fullest extent. There have been occasions when she found it very difficult to leave the room after our allotted hour. Trust is an important aspect of successful therapy and LG used the first sessions of therapy to develop a basic sense of trust in her surroundings and myself. If LG’s level of anxiety was heightened she would speak of her foster carer. On one or two occasions we finished the session early because LG wanted to see the carer. LG is now able to hold her carer...

Weekly Reflections

...Team C – Weekly Reflections II MGT/498 University of Phoenix Team C – Weekly Reflections II Team Cs paper this week considers the three objectives put forth in the syllabus and the level of difficulty each objective represents. The first is objective 3.1, estimate the sustainability of long-term business operations did not warrant a comment. Objective 3.2 explain how the global market affects business strategy was least difficulty and objective 3.3 construct a long-term strategic management plan for sustaining organizational performance was the most difficult. This week Team C is more comfortable with objective 3.2 because this objective relates to the way global markets affect business strategy. Global strategy and globalization changes the way firms conduct business. Technology advancements open new doors and causes organization to compete worldwide by means of the Internet. Therefore, organization strategies are more complex because the strategy must include certain aspects of business such as outsourcing, taxes, and global competition. Outsourcing did not always exist but is currently a popular trend, which helps businesses become more efficient, operate with better quality, and reduce operational costs (Wheelen & Hunger, 2010). However, taxes change when organizations operate globally and at times companies can pay taxes in multiple countries. Competition is another concern as mentioned above because competition is broader than before...

Weekly Assignment

...Sample Weekly Writing Assignment Writing assignments are limited to a maximum of one-page, single sided, and single-spaced (not including citations – see below). This is a relatively short assignment so be sure to use the space allotted effectively! 12-point Times New Roman font or similar should be used throughout the entire document. Ensure that sufficient margin spaces are maintained (e.g. 1 inche side, and 1 inch top/bottom). Note that all relevant course and student information can be placed in the header, which will effectively reduce your top margin (see above)– following the presets in your word processing application should be fine. The goal is to ensure a clear, legible, and professional looking document. DO NOT REPEAT THE QUESTION IN YOUR ASSIGNMENT AS IT WILL TAKE UP SPACE AND COST YOU MARKS. Assignments of less than half a page will not be given the 1 mark for submission Use paragraphs to separate the main ideas in your report and avoid overly long paragraphs and run-on sentences. You are aiming to present your ideas in as clear and concise a manner, so avoid the use of jargon, casual language, and unnecessarily complex or technical terms. Limited and judicious use of bulleted or numbered lists is appropriate at times and can be used to: • List the main ideas from a reading • Categorize theoretical content • Highlight the key points in your analysis It is not appropriate to compose large portions of your report using bullet points. Citations must...

Weekly Reflection

...This week’s learning has affected my thought process, development and professional disposition in many ways. It has given me insights on how nursing theory has set the foundation of the nursing profession, and how important theory is to me working as a nurse by providing knowledge and guidance in order for me to make critical decisions that are correct. I learned how important nursing theorist like Florence Nightingale was to nursing by helping to make nursing a respected profession and also developing nursing theories that focus on nurse’s providing patient centered care. This week’s learning has also fostered my growth by me learning to not take nursing for granted, but to consider it a privilege in helping others, improve patient recovery, help patient’s in restoring their health, always doing my best to help my patients, taking the time to get to know my patients by building a nurse-patient relationship, no matter how busy it gets. For example yesterday I had a hard time dealing with a patient that was very needy, demanding, and always using the call light. Each shift, the nurse’s practically ignored this patient. I decided to try the Watson “caring” theory. When the patient called for assistance again, I went in the room and sat down and chatted with this patient. I really learned a lot, I learned that this patient just wanted to feel respected, and that someone cared enough to pay attention to him. What I learned while dealing with this patient has made me...
