Time Monitoring Worksheet
Part I
Part I of this assignment will help you develop an important skill for college and everyday life – Time Management. You will begin by keeping an informal time log in which you note all your activities for 3 days, from 5 a.m. to 11 p.m. Then, you will review your activities to identify times when you were not productive. You will use this information for planning ways to make better use of your time.
1) Note: This is an exercise that will be used to complete the S.M.A.R.T. Goals Worksheet described below. You will not submit the Monitoring Your Time assignment individually to your instructor.
2) View the Time Monitoring Worksheet below.
3) Monitor your time in hourly increments. a) Carry your Time Monitoring Worksheet with you whenever you are awake. b) Each hour of the day, starting at 5:00 a.m. and ending at 11:00 p.m., write down what you did during that hour. If you do not get up until 10 a.m., do you record 5:00 a.m.-9:00 a.m.? Yes, indeed! c) Do not overdo the recording; record the primary activity for the hour.
4) On the fourth day, when you have 3 days of time monitored, it is time to analyze your time use. Get your Time Monitoring Worksheet and get ready to take a serious look at how you use your time each day.
5) New college students usually find that most time management problems they have fall into three categories. So, that is where you will start: a) The three categories are: i) Making poor judgments about using their time wisely. Procrastinating is one poor judgment. ii) Becoming immobilized when they are stressed. iii) Giving less than their best effort when they feel like quitting.
