...The Civil War was an bad fight between the South, which wanted slaves to still be a thing, and the North, which wanted to stop slavery. During the Civil War both the North and the South needed to work out what they both wanted to do. Though in the end North got what they wanted, which is a good thing, of course. The North and South and very different opinions on what to do. One of the ways we know this is from the documents given to us. A Confederate recruitment poster from 1862 shows that the South viewed blacks as workers. They didn't care about the African-Americans they just wanted them to be their slaves . The source "Wanted! 200 Negroes" tells us who the actual audience is and what they want to do. "I call upon the Planters...

...Trying to get Britain and France again, the confederacy embargoed the sale of cotton to Europe. This was disastrous. Europe soon moved on and began to find new sources from India and Egypt and this left the South with a short of money. Lincoln had no intention of making the aim of this war emancipation. Northerners went to war because the South had broken the law in the most fundamental way. Bull Run and union Failure Northern voices called for a speedy victory to capture the new Confederate capital of Richmond and end the conflict. McDowell, marching 36,000 men out of Washington to northern Virginia on July 16, 186 there he was met by confederate general Pierre Beauregard with 20,000 men. McDowell, expecting only Beauregard, had to face Johnson as well who had come from the Shenandoah Valley with 12,000 men at Bull Run. Expecting an entertaining victory, hundreds of Washington civilians, congressmen...

...The civil war started on April. 12, 1861.The reason it started was because confederates bombarded Union soldiers at Fort Sumter. The Civil War was fought in many different places, like from southern pennsylvania to texas;from New Mexico to Florida coast. The majority of the fighting took place in the state Virginia and Tennessee. Some of the problems that occured during the civil war was that racism worcened outside of the war.In the southern states they were more inclined to segragation than most northern states. They were more stubborn towards the fact that African Americans were equal to whites and other races.Whites in the south thought that blacks and mexicans and any other races, did not have the same manners and proper behavior to be...

...MORGANTOWN, W.Va.--The West Virginia University baseball team defeated Virginia Tech 10-5 on Wednesday at Monongalia County Ballpark. The Mountaineers (25-21) jumped out to an early 7-0 lead to beat the Hokies (20-27) for the third consecutive time and ninth in the last 13 games. "We're having some consistency on offense," WVU head coach Randy Mazey said. "It appears we got our short game back, which disappeared for a while. I think we had three or four bunt hits tonight. We moved some runners, had some stolen bases and we got a lot of hits, but we didn't smash balls like we normally do. We didn't have a lot of extra base hits in the gaps, that type of thing. It's nice to know that you can win games without being able to do that, by bunting...

...Discuss the effectiveness of the Confederate blockade-runners and why they were able to sustain the Confederacy until late in the Civil War. Early in the Civil War blockade-runners were skilled in the art of evading the many warships. There were several factors that contributed to that success. The first being the North was not able to accomplish a full blockade of the confederate states. Although, “ships were purchased by the Navy Department and re-rigged to carry out blockade duties,” there were still disadvantages that kept them from running effectively. They were not able to operate efficiently or effectively in shallow water near land because of their deep draft, and they were too slow and cumbersome to chase or catch the blockade-runners....

...When the stage is set for the civil war the north had some obvious advantages, they had more land, people, commerce and were recognized as a country universally by other nations around the world. The two most important factors that advantaged the north were their larger economy and population, as well as their vastly superior navy. The addition of their victory at New Orleans made prospects for a Southern victory seem almost impossible. Though the prospects had looked bleak for a while, after taking into account the economic and naval advantage, and succeeding the capture of New Orleans, the war looked to be tipping unwaveringly in favor of the north. At the outset of the war, the north was in a good position due to the distribution of resources. General Robert E, Lee himself, a confederate general said that the only reason they had lost was “not because it fought badly but because the enemy had more men and guns – indeed more everything” (2nd source). The south simply could not replace the casualties it suffered as easily or for as long as the north. The most accurate estimate is that the Confederacy had “somewhat less than half as many as served in the Union army”(5th source). Regardless of how well individual battles may be fought, in the end the side with more bodies to throw at a problem will generally come out the victor. When both sides had to eventually resort to a draft, the north was able to pull in a much larger number of recruits due tofrom their greater...

...Junior Walk, a 27-year-old from Eunice, West Virginia, a small community in the Coal River Valley, does not approve of coal mining and its negative effects. Junior will stop at nothing to end coal mining and all of its problems for new clean renewable resources. Junior uses his drone and hovers it over the mining area to try to find violations. When Junior does find violations “ he anonymously submits evidence of those violations to West Virginia's Department of Environmental Protection in the hopes that companies will be forced to pay fines and slow down their work,” says Vice News. Junior and many other people such as Maria Gunnoe who was honored with the 2009 Goldman Environmental Prize of North America hate coal mining and what it does to everything around it. Coal mining kills thousands of people each year in mine accidents and leaves people near and around mines with many health problems such as cardiopulmonary disease, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, hypertension, lung disease and kidney disease....

...Civil War Advantages In this short essay I will be talking about the advantages that both the North and the South had during The Civil War. The Civil War was the fight for slavery, the war between the North and the South. The North was trying to abolish slavery, while the South was trying to spread it even more. First we will start off with the advantages of the North, the North outnumbered the South twenty-two million to eight million. They also had more railroad and more factories to make weapons and other stuff that they would need during the war. One reason they had so many more people is because they let blacks fight with them, but occasionally when the blacks got caught they would either be sold or just straight up killed. Here the...

...the Union while the southern states were considered the Confederacy. In this paper, I will discuss some respective advantages and disadvantages of the Union and how these elements manifested during the American Civil War. Let’s start off with an advantage the Union had over the Confederacy. The Union had far more valuable leadership such as Ulysses S. Grant. (World History Group, n.d.) Ulysses worked his way up through the ranks of the Army starting as a volunteer. The victories at Vicksburg and Gettysburg put Ulysses in the public eye and was promoted to Lieutenant General and named commander of the entire Union army by President Lincoln. (Ulysses S. Grant, n.d.) Ulysses surrounded Confederate General Robert E. Lee’s army in Northern Virginia and Lee eventually surrendered to the Union at Appomattox...

... This one took lace at Greenup high school and when all was said and done, I am going to go out on a limb and say, that most walked away saying East Carter is well improved overall but still a year or so away. Russel is still Russell and they are as usual deep and well coached. (The GAME REPORT AND UNOFFICIAL STATS ARE FOR THE VARSITY PORTION OF THE GAME. THE FINAL SCORE WILL INCLUDE THE JV QUARTER) The East carter defense got back to back sweet plays from #89, who shows a flicker, that he will be a force on both sides of the ball, if the coaching staff puts him in the offensive part of the game) The first play came in the shape of a sack on the Russell QB #8. The other play was a stoppage of a running play for a big loss. #19 For Russell would give his team the games first points, with a quick65-yard run, with 7:14 left in the opening quarter. #6 connected on the point after kick to make the score 7-0. Defense was the name of the game for the rest of the quarter, with the exception of a middle screen thrown to #21 of East Carter and he galloped to a gain close t0 30 yards. The Russell defense got back to back sacks on East Carter quarterback #4. The first occurred at the 11:01 mark of the 2nd quarter with #61 doing the honors. The 2nd came from #42, who got to the quarterback for a 9-yard loss. #4 shook off the affects of the two sacks, to throw a nice looking pass towards #20, who was tightly covered by the Russell defender. The end result was a very nice grab by...

...14 Mar 2014 Informations Systems in Education Factors Affecting the Effectiveness of Information Systems MAE 510 Jeff Benenhaley I remember as a kid one of my best Christmas’s was the year I got my first computer. It was much different that you may be thinking. Today, when we think of a computer, we either imagine a laptop or a desktop computer. If we are really technology savvy and have the money, the computer could come in the form as an IPad or NOOK. However, this was not the case back in the early 80’s. The computer I am referring to was merely a large keyboard that attached to a regular T.V. It didn’t play games, get on the world-wide-web or even have email. All I could do was type in a very large list of code that was already predetermined in order to see what that code would make. Usually it was some sort of design that would flash across the screen but could not be saved onto a hard drive. This same year I received my first Atari. This was the best gift ever, finally I had a game that didn’t consist of a piece of cardboard, a stack of cards and required you to roll a dice to get from point A to point B before your opponent. Now, if we fast forward about 30-years we find that when we use the term computer or gaming system, we think of something entirely different than what I knew from the early 80’s. Today, I have three computers in my house and my son has two gaming systems. All of my computers are top of the line and can do just about anything....
