This incident left fifteen people dead and twenty-four people injured. The guns used during the shooting were illegally acquired. This is just one significant example of a mass shooting in the United States.

The Importance Of The Second Amendment

...Another Pro is high-capacity magazines should be banned because they too often turn murder into a mass murder, the next Con is gun control laws infringe upon the right to self-defense and deny people a sense of safety. The last Pro that will add is more gun control laws are needed to protect women from domestic abusers and stalkers, and the last Con I will add is gun control laws, especially those that try to ban “assault weapons” infringe upon the right to own guns for hunting and or sports. Did you know that at least five women a day are killed by guns in America, and women are at risk of being murdered increase by 500% if there is a gun in a domestic dispute. The Great Debate

...control is necessary to diminish crime and many pro gun advocates, look at Switzerland as proof that it is false. To get into this heated debate, it is important to understand the term gun control. Gun control is defined as laws that control the selling, owning, and use of guns (Webster's Dictionary). Like in any debate there are always two very different stance on this topic. PRO Pro gun control advocates argue that having strict gun laws will decrease the nation's crime rate. They also point out that having tougher gun laws will save lives by avoiding any more public massacres. To the eyes of a gun control advocate, it seems like a no brainer. After all, the less guns on the street will result in less gun related deaths. In the United States, 33,636 people have died due to a firearm in 2013 (Alpers, Philip). That number accounts for murders, homicides and suicides across the country. Thousands of people that year lost their life due to a firearm incident and the number keeps growing each year. Many gun control advocates wonder why it is so difficult to implement stricter gun laws in the world's greatest democracy. The misinterpretation of the second amendment is what's holding back the U.S. Many people that are against gun control throw around the Second Amendment a whole lot. What many have failed to realize is that the Second Amendment protects the right of militias to own guns, not the individual. Let's take a look at what the Second Amendment states. ...Corporate Governance & Business Ethics Gun Control vs. Gun Violence The debate over gun control in the United States has been a topic of controversy over the years. In particular, the killing of twenty schoolchildren in Newtown, Connecticut. In December 2012 this mass shooting fueled a national discussion over gun laws. However, compromise legislation would have banned semiautomatic assault weapons and expanded background checks was defeated in the senate in 2013, despite extensive public support. Arguments for more restrictive gun laws http://gun.laws.com/gun-rights/gun-control-versus-gun-rights As society continues to diversify and human beings become more individualistic, we drift further apart from understanding each other. The gun control debate is not directly effected by this, but psychologically human beings fear what we don't understand. In a society with hundreds of cultures, differences and arguments can arise out of nothing. Words are one thing but the use of firearms is an entirely different topic. With less restrictive laws on purchasing and ownership a seemingly pointless feud could intensify into murder. Guns give a man power, with power inevitably comes abuse. There is a high rate of gun-related violence http://gun.laws.com/gun-rights/gun-control-versus-gun-rights The United States leads the world in gun violence and ownership. Gun Control Debate

...Lindsey Kjer, Stuart Moneymaker, Christina Marquez and Josh Marr BCOM/275 April 15, 2013 Gun Control Debate Gun control is a heated topic for debate right now in the United States. Many people are pro-gun control while others are against it. One fact is: “The Second Amendment only restricts the federal and state governments from imposing gun control that would completely deprive citizens of the right to defend their homes and their right to take part in defending their liberties as members of a national militia” (Charles, 2013). There is always some level of gun control. It can rise of course, but they cannot be taken away to their entirety. There are many pros to debate as well as cons. As gun control is discussed, we will come across ethical, moral, and legal issues. The Pros of Gun Control Do we not have enough gun violence occurring in today’s society that we feel the need to grant Americans permission to bear arms? Regulation of guns is a necessary action that needs to be taken in order to save lives.  Gun control is an effort to stop the rise in violent crime by strengthening laws on the ownership of firearms. “According to studies, 54 percent of Americans say stricter laws would reduce the number of deaths caused by mass shootings.” Terrorism, schools shootings and other modern circumstances cannot be prevented all together; however stricter gun laws will limit the access to firearms and decrease the rate of deaths. Many Americans own firearms as a means of protection...

Gun Control in Us

...CAMPUS NEWS The gun control in US Is there enough gun control in the U.S.? Or should the control be tightened up? After the many school shootings in the U.S. arms control has become a much-discussed topic. The President of the United States and the Congress are in the process of discussing what should be done about the gun control. Barack Obama, the U.S. president, has presented some new proposals around the Firearms Act, which should help to prevent future shooting tragedies. In January 2013 Barack Obama presented a new plan to prevent shootings. The most important thing was to significantly improve background checks on those who buy guns. He wants to drastically improve the system of background checks. Mr. Obama believes that by improving background checks when people buy guns, there will be fewer shootings and reduce the number of mentally ill people being able to by guns. However, says Jack Levin, a professor of sociology and Criminology from Northeastern University in Boston, that background checks will not prevent school shootings since gunmen will let their parents with spotless criminal record buy guns for them. There can be spoken both for and against the use of a more thorough background check, but it's only positive that Barack Obama will improve the system of arms control. Another suggestion is that he wants to ban assault weapons and large ammunition magazines. The proposal should eliminate all sales of these weapon designs. Mr. Webster has said that...

Gun Control

...The mass shootings at the Aurora movie theater that claimed the lives of 12 and injured 59-plus the recent mass shooting at the elementary school in Newton, Connecticut that claimed the life’s of 20 children and six adults. These shootings have stirred up the old debate about gun control and what the second amendment is and what it means to people. Politicians, including President Obama have claimed to create new laws that will reduce the gun violence in this country. Laws that include an assault weapons ban, background checks, in an attempt to keep guns out of the hands of people who may hurt someone or themselves. The opposition has claimed that some of these laws will violate their second amendment right to bear arms and are fighting against any new gun control measures. There are good potential outcomes of gun control and outcomes that might have a negative impact on citizens. A form of gun control that was law but failed to pass again is the ban on assault rifles. The ban on assault rifles will take those types of guns out of people who might do others harm. Most of the mass shooting that happened in 2012 didn’t involve assault rifles like the AR-15 but hand-guns. Along with the ban on assault rifles there will be tougher laws that will allow faster tracking of weapons. The new background checks and the electronic data of all sales of weapons and ammunition, will allow law enforcement to prevent future shootings. Gun Control: Good or Bad?

...result in a deadly accident. Reasons for there to be less gun control is because taking guns away would just lead to the vast majority of people being unarmed when being robbed also the criminals can always get a hold of guns whether that be legally or illegally. The gun control laws should be less strict because the laws would not drop crime rates and it would make it more difficult for citizens to defend themselves. With the most deaths in the U.S having to do with guns it would make sense if you take guns out it would drop the killing ratio. Obama says that tightening gun control by banning assault rifles and making more thorough background checks can help lower the crime rate dramatically. Mass shootings mostly if not always involve an assault weapon of some type. When the mass killing spree in the Colorado movie theatre involving James Holmes (alleged shooter) killing twelve people and harming many more with an assault rifle...

Within this core are game categories, such as FPS (First Person Shooters), which have some aspect of violence to it. The popularity of these violent video games has risen greatly within the last 5 years. In 2008, from the age group 12-17 in the United States, 97% of them played video games, and 10 of the top 20 best-selling video games in the United States contained violence (ProCon.com). These violent video games are attributed to the cause of increase in school shootings as well as increases in domestic and youth violence. Critics of these violent video games argue that the because the violence is encouraged to do well in the game through reward, that the player becomes desensitized towards the violence and will teach children that violence is an acceptable way to resolve conflicts (ProCon.com). Video game advocates claim that the research is deeply flawed because there has been no link between video game violence and that of social violence.
