...Behavioural/Competency-based Interviews Behavioural interviews are based on the idea that past behaviour is the best predictor of future behaviour. The interviewer will want specific examples of when and how you demonstrated particular behaviours. Prior to interview each position is assessed for the skills/competencies and characteristics that relate to job success. Interview questions are then developed to probe into these areas. All candidates are asked the same questions and notes are taken in order to evaluate candidates. The word competency is widely used in business and personnel psychology and refers to the behaviours that are necessary to achieve the objectives of an organisation. A competency is also something you can measure and lists of competencies form a common language for describing how people perform in different situations. Every job can be described in terms of key competencies. This means that they can be used for all forms of assessment, including appraisals, training needs analysis and of course, selection. • Individual competencies – your personal attributes: Flexibility, decisiveness, tenacity, independence, risk taking, personal integrity • Managerial competencies – taking charge of other people: Leadership, empowerment, strategic planning, corporate sensitivity, project management, management control • Analytical competencies – the elements of decision making: Innovation, analytical skills, numerical problem solving, problem solving, practical learning...

...is asked by her teacher “Why did you place the pencils in your backpack and take the pencils home?” Very unsure of the appropriate response, Kylie simply says “ I didn’t.” The teacher then goes over to the child’s book bag to take out the pencils that are accused of to be missing. Kylie then states that she must have accidently placed the pencil in the book bag after completing the end of the day assignment while packing up to go home. Regardless of the reason the action occurred, the teacher proceeds to have a thorough discussion regarding the topic of honesty and goes forth to discipline the child in school as well as contact her parent at home to make them aware of the situation and to recommend they generously speak to their student so that the behavior is not repeated again. In this paper I look to explore the different levels of honesty and evaluate if it is as black and white as it seems. When is it Lying According to Merriam-Webster the definition of honesty is: 1. The quality or fact of being honest; uprightness and fairness. 2. Truthfulness, sincerity or frankness. 3. Freedom from deceit or fraud. The commitment required to realize these simple terms is more clearly implied in a second definition, drawn from Funk & Wagnails Standard Handbook of Synonyms, Antonyms and Prepositions: "One who is honest in the highest and fullest sense is scrupulously careful ^o adhere to all known truth and right even in thought." So how can you tell when something is true or not...

...concern to him than the one being discussed. A positive and accepting silence can be a valuable therapeutic tool. (1) It encourages the patient to talk; (2) directs his thoughts to the task at hand--the consideration of his problem; (3) reduces the pace of the interview when either the nurse or the patient is pressing or pushing too hard; (4) gives the patient time to consider alternative courses of action, delve deeply into his feelings, or weigh a decision; (5) and allows the patient to discover that he can be accepted even though he is silent, that even though he is shy and quiet, he has worth and is respected by another person. Much nonverbal communication occurs during these interludes. The nurse needs to be alert to what she is communicating as well as perceiving. Even momentary loss of interest can be interpreted as indifference. Schwartz and Schockley state that the utilization of silence is often difficult for nursing personnel, since they think that nothing is happening and that they are wasting their time. In long periods of silence, they may become bored and their attention wanders from the patient. If the nurse could observe the patient and herself carefully, she might discover that a great deal happens between then at these times. 2. ACCEPTING...giving indication of reception. "Yes." "Uh hmm." ...shouldn't pay for a liberal arts education. By Brian Dumaine, senior editor-at-large Fred Smith sees fast growth ahead in the developing world. Fred Smith sees fast growth ahead in the developing world. FORTUNE -- When Fred Smith founded FedEx in 1971, he had just returned from the Vietnam War, where he had served as a Marine platoon leader and then a pilot, and he was casting around for something to do. As legend has it, a paper he had written at Yale -- he doesn't remember the grade but is pretty sure it wasn't a good one -- laid out the idea for a hub-and-spoke system for delivering time-sensitive items like computer parts. He borrowed money from his sisters, leased some jets, and started his service. Today FedEx (No. 70 on the Fortune 500), with headquarters in Memphis, has 255,000 employees, 688 planes, and more than 90,000 vehicles that operate in some 220 countries and regions. Here's the world according to Fred Smith. Edited excerpts: Q: In 2000 you started morphing from your traditional air express delivery business into ground and into freight. What was the thinking behind that strategy shift? A: Well, in 2000 we were probably competing in a $50 billion annual [sales] market space. Today we're directly competing in about a $350 billion to $400 billion marketplace. Going into ground and freight opened up a market for us with the greatest growth potential over a sustained period of time: the developing world. Middle classes are emerging in various countries...

Submission Date: OCT 29 , 2014 Presentation Date: OCT 29, 2014 * SELECT ONE CASE STUDY ONLY CASE: 1.0 Web Porn at Work Al Smetana is the founding president of a medium-size, Midwestern manufacturing firm, Rayburn Unlimited. He’s proud of the way his company has grown, and done so on the basis of an organizational culture committed to honesty, integrity and the intrinsic value of each individual. But now those values are being put to the test. It began when Al Smetana learned that an employee had tapped into the company’s computer system and figured out how to read people’s e-mail and to learn what websites they visited. Determining who the culprit was wasn’t difficult. When confronted about it, the employee admitted what he had done. Al Smetana immediately terminated his employment. But as he left, the employee said angrily, “Just ask Lindley about his computer usage,” referring to Craig Lindley, associate vice president for human resources and an old friend of Al Smetana’s. Although Al Smetana did not trust the discharged employee, he was disturbed by his comment and reluctant to let it go. So he called Craig Lindley into his office and asked him about it. After a few minutes of gentle questioning, Craig started weeping. When he recovered himself, he explained that for the past year or so he had been hooked on pornography on the web and at the office sometimes spent an hour or so a day looking...

But there was only little water in the pitcher. He tried to drink from the pitcher but no matter how much he tried, he could not reach the water. “My beak is too big. The pitcher’s neck is very narrow. How will I get the water?” he thought. (Have the pupils predict: What do you think will the crow do so he could reach the water in the pitcher?) Then an idea came to the crow. He picked up some small stones. He dropped them into the pitcher one by one. (Have the pupils predict: After he had dropped some stones into the pitcher, what do you think will happen?) “One, two, three…” Plop, plip, plop. Little by little, the water rose in the pitcher. “Four, five, six…” Plop, plip, plop. The water rose some more. Soon the crow could reach the water. “Now, I can drink!” said the crow. “Ah! ...act of looking can still be a problem, especially if he is replaying it in his mind later. Not only that, but in his situation he is not even trying to be discreet about it when you’re around, and that is cause for concern. If he freely looks when you are with him, how bold is he when you are not present? 1) Whenever we go anywhere, could be a reception, stores, etc ( basicly anywhere there are other people) he looks/stare at girls/women.. I have been married for 8 years and been talking to him about this ever since. I have asked him several times not to do it, that it bothers me. He says he likes to look, that everyone is different. The next time I caught him staring, I told him you can stare all you want when I am not there, just don't do it infront of me, .. I sometime ignore him but not all the time... it really hurts me.. For eg. we were doing grocery shopping the other day when he saw this girl and he looked/stare at her, its like she had a magnet on her body.. He couldn't help looking.. He is looking at the girl then he saw me looking at him, he then turned away, then looked in the direction she went in... I just walked out the store. Please let me know how to handle this, he says all men look.. I said they look but you stare.. ahh! this is making upset 2) It`s really a shame that one of these women he is ogling doesn`t put him in his place. Wouldn`t that be great? I bet he wouldn`t be...

...These are all things that are essential to my life in so many different aspects. The most important thing to me is success; it’s a thing I must have. Success can mean a lot of different things to different people; it just depends on the person. Success to me is a business standpoint; I have so many goals I’ve set for myself business and financial wise, success comes to me in those ways. In order for me to feel like I’ve actually succeeded in life I must reach these goals. If I reach these goals I have many plans that will contribute to the benefiting of society, like starting a camp for all types of kids. It would be somewhere they could go in the summer to stay out of trouble and have tons of fun without the risk of going through many of the pressures children experience while out with friends hanging out at home. I would have four wheelers; fishing, camping, and many other things children love to do. Another thing that is extremely important in my life is family. At my age not a lot of people think about having one but its something that I know I want. I mean with all the plans I have for my future they wouldn’t be as great if I didn’t have people to share it with or give to when I passed away. Also having little kids and doing father activities with them is something I really look forward too. What would you do without freedom? Too many people in America take the greatest thing we have in our country for granted. Not a lot of people realize how great they have it compared...

...Facing the Inevitable “I’m sorry to inform you Mr. Edwards, but your condition has become terminal, and you only have several more months to live.” For a doctor, one of the hardest tasks has to be telling their patients that there is nothing more they can do for them, and that they will die in a short period of time, but receiving such news is probably more difficult for the patient. All you can do is try to make the best of this moment, and stay strong for yourself and also for your loved ones. Coming to the realization that your life is coming to a close is not easy to do, but it’s important that you do, so you can alter your life to give yourself the ability to enjoy and appreciate what might be your last months of living. In such a difficult time, spending time with your family is very important because the love and support of your family can really give you the confidence and strength to overcome a situation of this magnitude. Everyone has a bucket list; this might be the most opportune time to try to scratch off as many goals as possible. Also, realizing that you can die with a purpose, for a cause, you can use your last few months to help others around the world who are going through a similar situation, or any tough situation in general. There are many ways a person could alter their life if they were going to die shortly, but the three ways I would choose are, spending time with my family, completing some of the goals on my bucket list, and being active in the community...

A forward-thinker, he would say, a pioneer, captain of industry...a demigod. As I grew older I deduced the true character of the man. He was a thief, a used-car salesman turned greed-driven opportunist, hiding behind a pretense of entitlement that he and men like him perpetuate. He made his first real money selling the same cemetery plot to hundreds of grieving widows during the war who were too trusting. There was no pioneering. His extraordinary ability was merely to avoid incarceration. I swore to myself that I would never be a man like my grandfather." "What would you do?"
