There are two big questions that the prospects of a significant rise in foreign direct investment (FDI) from China into the Australian resources sector have raised. Is the surge of FDI into Australian mining and energy consistent with achieving the traditional gains from foreign investment? And are there any particular problems associated with investment from foreign state-owned enterprises or state managed sovereign wealth funds? These are among the questions addressed in this paper. The paper argues that there are no issues that cannot be dealt with under the umbrella of the established test of ‗national interest‘ in managing the growth of Chinese FDI into the Australian minerals sector. It argues that a confusion has been introduced into policy over the questions of state-ownership and supplier-buyer relations in respect of Chinese investments and that clarifying these issues is likely to be important to Australia‘s capturing the full benefits from the growth of Chinese resources demand and longer term economic and strategic interests in China. Therefore we found it interesting to investigate motivation on a deeper level. “Motivation to work – differences between managers and workers” The research questions for our thesis are, is there a difference in motivation between managers and workers? The purpose is to examine if a manager and a worker have shared understandings and common factors of what motivates them, or if certain characteristics can be distinguished. For our research we have chosen to use three companies operating within the financial sector in Sweden. We have interviewed two persons at each company, whereby one has the position of a manager and the other has the position of a worker. Moreover, the method of our interviews are qualitative, mostly due to the fact that we wanted create a comfortable feeling for the interviewee and to so that we could get deep insight of what motivates that person. This led to financial loss for Corwin and cessation of relations with Peters, an important customer. Corwin has long-standing internal protocols with regard to project selection around product-based initiatives from outside clients. However, in this instance, these measures were entirely overlooked. Thus, the project failed to meet the brief due to lack of proper management at the initiation and execution stages.
