What Does The Movie Mean To Me

Meg acts very peculiar at times. Like in the movie when she is the only one walking around the classroom, and looking out the window. Other times Meg can act very parent-like. Remember how Charles Wallace was being teased about not talking to anyone? Yes, great because in that certain scene Meg just starts defending Charles Wallace by fighting the boys that teased him. Meg also became very against herself. In the movie (and partially in the book), Meg starts saying that she is ugly and not smart. To sum it up Meg is a very confusing person. She is constantly acting different.
When it comes to Meg’s relationships she doesn't have very many, but Meg has a great relationship with her brother, Charles Wallace. Her relationship with Charles Wallace

Erin Brockovich Movie Clip

...Erin Brockovich movie clip I have chosen to choose the film Erin Brockovich and the scene where Erin gets rehired. In this scene her ex-boss, Ed, comes to her door to ask about the information that has come to him. Erin tells him that if he rehires her then she will tell him. He then rehires her and they talk about what has been happening with some of the people that are living where they have been affected by the hexavalent chromium. She extorts Ed for a raise and benefits. Erin gets her information about PG&E from the water board by flaunting herself. “The Director of this movie is Steven Soderbergh. The Producers are Carla Santos Shamberg, Danny DeVito, and Stacey Sher. The Cinematographer is Edward Lachman. The Editor is Anne V. Coates. The Costume designer is Jeffrey Kurland. The Screenwriter is Susannah Grant (http://movieclips.com/N4kHP-erin-brockovich-movie-erin-is-re-hired/)”. “The Production Design is by Philip Messina and the Art Direction is by Christa Munro (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0195685/fullcredits )”. The Director has a very important role. "The director is the one that is responsible for the whole film. The director is the one that interprets the script into their own vision and then decides the final look of the whole film with the production designer and cinematographer. The director will also be the one that is directing the actors as well as the action while it is being shot (Goodykoontz, 2011, Ch. 7)." "The directors are not only the ones that...

Blow

...When a book is made into a movie, many things are left out. The movie may depict characters in a completely different way than the novel. Another thing that may be changed during production is theme. A movie version of a novel might not include a big theme of a novel or the movie may have a completely different theme than the novel. In most movies, scenes are deleted or completely made up in order to make the movie more entertaining and to get the story told quickly. Like any movie based on a book, there are some differences in the movie Blow. Examples of differences are some characters have been changed and some have been added, also many scenes and events from the book are left out, and finally some scenes have been completely changed from the novel to the film. There is one character in the movie that was completely made up. Her name is Barbara Buckley. She plays George’s first real girlfriend. She is added to help show the theme - money is not everything. During the movie, she gets cancer and is told that she only has around a half of a year left. As a result, George takes a break from smuggling drugs into the United States and moves down to Mexico, because this is the only place he can live freely. This is one of the first times that George puts love before money. If he would have stayed in the United Sates then he would have been sentenced to a couple months in jail instead of the mandatory three year sentence. He would also make millions of dollars as a result...

You finally get to your hotel room and you are getting ready to make it official and consummate your marriage. You husband has a request though, he asks you to watch a porno with him before bed? You are wondering what, we just got married, and why would he be asking you this. He never asked you to do this before; you did not even realize that he watched this stuff. You think to yourself how any person can watch this it is disgusting. You think that is it morally and ethically wrong, it degrades women and to you it makes women look bad. You ask him why now after all this time he decides to watch pornography now. His answer to you is that he has always watched it but never told you, because he did not think what you thought of it. Movie Critique

...Movie Critic Hum/150 6/6/2016 The film I chose to critique this week is the classic family comedy Home Alone (1990) directed by Chris Columbus. Leading actors in this film is eight year old Kevin McCallister played by Macaulay Culkin, along with Peter McCallister, the father, played by John Heard, Mrs. McCallister played by Catherine O’Hara, Marv, who is the first burglar, played by Daniel Stern, and Harry, the other burglar played by Joe Pesci. Other characters in this film are Buzz the brother, mean Uncle Frank, and creepy old man Marley. The title of the film hints to the audience that someone is home alone, but the viewer does not know what happens in the story until watching the film, which makes it more interesting. This film is about a large family who gets together for a Christmas trip to Paris, but the night before they leave there is a wind storm, which knocks out all of the power, which means their alarm clock does not go off, and they sleep in. This puts them in a mad rush to get to the airport, in turn leaving Kevin behind, and the rest continue on to a fun family adventure. One part of a filmmaker’s goal among others is to create the right mood through a believable mise-en-scene; different settings that took place in Home Alone were McCallister’s home, the airport, inside the airplane, church, a grocery store, the tree house, and Santa exhibit. The two filming locations used in this film were in Chicago, Illinois, and in Paris, France...

Ip Man 3

...Isaac Yap 3/5 stars This is it. The final installment in the kung-fu movie trilogy that dramatizes the life of the legendary Chinese folk hero: Ip Man. And what a colossal letdown it is. While less disgustingly nationalistic than the second installment, Ip Man 3 lacks the Cantonese humor and the glowing humanity of the first one and is overall a lackluster conclusion to what was supposed to be a kung-fu epic. Donnie Yen returns yet again to play the role of Ip Man, the martial arts master who taught the “Wing-Chun” style to hundreds Cantonese students including the young Bruce Lee. Unsurprisingly, Ip Man is the canonical hero who embodies the Chinese values of familial love, filial piety and flipping men over walls to protect the underdogs of society. Most of the characters in Ip Man 3 are one-dimensional and extremely polarized. For example, Patrick Tam plays the zougou (what the Chinese called fellow countrymen who served their colonial masters), the one who betrayed his master for money. He is lackadaisical, an absolute evil with neither depth nor duality. Ip Man 3’s cast is predictable and even worse, boring. Perhaps the worst thing about Ip Man 3 is its weak pedestrian plot chock full of clichés. So many Chinese movies use either a corrupt Westerner or a barbaric Japanese invader as the main antagonist that it has become a cliché. Ip Man 3 subscribes to the same formula and underwhelms me with its lack of imagination. Ip Man himself is a stoic, impassive and...

Never Let Me Go

...Response Paper: Never Let Me Go The screening of the book Never Let Me Go by Ishiguro Kazuo was directed by Mark Romanek, not a very famous director but definitely a hard-working one. The movie includes such actors as Keira Knightley, Carey Mulligan, and Andrew Garfield who act as the main protagonists of the performance. The movie starts with the final scene of Tommy’s “completion”. Then the viewer is presented with the retrospection of events that leads to this final scene. It is quite different than in the book. The writer tells the story from the very beginning and does not show the ending to the readers. While the movie is created in such a way that in the first scene the viewer knows how it ends, it does not mean that it is not interesting. In contrary it is a very well composed and striking film. From the beginning of the movie the audience is presented with the everyday life of a group of young people: Tommy, Kathy, and Ruth. They seem to be the average persons while in fact they are a part of a big project. They are simply genetically modified clones. They cannot have children, they have to be healthy, and from the very beginning of their lives they are prepared for donations. They give their organs and after one, two or sometimes three surgeries they just complete. Some of these people believe that they can get a deferral. In fact, there is no such thing as deferral and they are meant to die from the very beginning of their lives. Their struggle to postpone the...

The Pursuit of Happiness

...The Pursuit of Happiness Jun Xi Zhou DeVry University The Pursuit of Happiness I would like to comment on a movie called “The Pursuit of Happiness”. It is based on a true story of the famous self-made millionaire Chris Gardner. When I saw this movie, I thought it might be another old story of inspiring people to stick to their dreams, nothing new. But I decided to watch it for the reason that it stars Will Smith who was nominated for an Academy Award and a Golden Globe for Best Actor because of his performance in this movie. I believe that a good movie must have a good plot, wonderful acting, and the most important thing is the audience’s feeling when they have finished watching the movie. I expect the movie to give me the strength and let me feel happiness. Protagonist of the story is the American black’s investment expert Chris Gardner. Film tells a bankrupt salesman through their unremitting efforts, finally become famous financier of the inspirational story. The most important thing is that what people will know and what are people’s feelings after they have watched the movie. When watching the film I was considering whether to continue to go to college, and I don't know direction. I considered whether I should continue to pursue my dream. After I finished watching, I found that unlike a usual success story, this movie is realistic because there are many failures, defeats and missed opportunities before success happens. An important clue in the film is the change...

...Why is Anbe Sivam regarded as the best movie in the history of Tamil cinema by many? Did this movie have any story at all? First of all is it a movie? No. Anbe Sivam is an experience, not only for one Madhavan but for another few thousands, who care to learn quite a lot of things and feel conceited about themselves, but fail miserably to confront the vagaries of life. What was the movie all about? An experienced matured man and a squeamish, egotist but tender hearted youth (a typical modern day youth) travelling together from Bhubaneshwar to Chennai(East coast of India).Fate hinders their journey in all possible ways which Madhavan initially considers exasperating but later reveres as an experience of a lifetime. The story is as simple as that but the associated scenes, dialogues and the lessons learnt reverberate through your mind for a long time. Be it the floods, train accident or the little boy's death it is Madhavan who breaks down and get shattered. But Kamalhassan adapts himself and reconciles himself to reality and helps in the best possible way he can. While it takes a lot of effort for Madhavan to tell Kamalhaasan about his fraternal love towards him, Kamalhaasan finds it easy to tell 'A.Ars, you are a go(o)d man' (it's not that easy to tell it to someone earnestly). From where did Kamal get this maturity? The story moves into the flashback of Kamal,a communist, who loves the daughter of a capitalist, Nasser, whom he opposes as a worker regarding wages. Water for Elephants

...Robert Patterson, who starts off as a Cornell University veterinary student and ends as a tired, old, former circus member. A variety of vital themes that were portrayed throughout the novel were incorporated in the movie in both different and similar ways. The circus is a big deal to Jacob Jancowski. It’s where he regained control of his life after his parents died. It’s where he fell in love with an elephant named Rosie, who went on to become his personal pet. And it’s also where he met the love of life, Marlena. For much of Water for Elephants, Jacob is almost painfully old. He can barely walk, it's a struggle to bathe himself, and many of his desires are severely limited. He thinks about fresh fruit with the same longing he used to reserve for sex. And yet at his core, his personality remains unchanged; he's still the same person on the inside. To make sense of this, he retreats into the past, focusing on a time when his inside and outside matched – a time of adventure, wonder, excitement, and drama. It seems like all of those qualities are missing from his current life. Even though Jacob has aged, his desire for excitement and wonder has remained. And through his decision to return to the circus, we know he's still got that gumption he always had. In the movie, Lawrence chooses to share Jacob Jancowski’s story through flashback method. Jacob is at the circus meeting with a current employee of the Benzini Brother’s when he shares his memories of the circus. However, in the...

Barr Moonlight Research Paper

... Film is one of the few means to transport you from your mundane life to this dream world, which unbeknownst to you, is often the world you want to live in the most. Often times I've been watching a movie and I would know what to feel, it feels cheap and artificial but the real control, the best cinema, is when a director forces you to feel something. One of my favorite films, Moonlight, is the chronicles of a gay man growing up and showing the hardship of being an African American man in a drug-riddled Miami. Every single part of the film was flawless, from the storytelling to the acting, down to the music and cinematography. It left me feeling raw and vulnerable and I didn't know whether to hate director...

Essay on Avatar

...the planet in the hopes of avoiding planetary conquest by the human travelers set on depleting Pandora of its environmental wealth. The movie Avatar is a great success with its great action scenes, its creation of futuristic vehicles, the creation of new alien life forms, the expert use of CGI, the beautiful and awe inspiring cinematography, and the selection of vivid and brilliant colors for use throughout Pandora. Avatars introduction and use of the Combat Amp Suit, Grinder Vehicle and Scorpion Gunship helped in taking the combat scenes from an everyday science fiction fight to a whole new level. With raising the bar in combat fight scenes the Combat Amp Suit accessories displayed in the movie emphasize the detail spent by James Cameron in creating the perfect combat vehicle for his movie. The combat suit is fitted with cannons, flamethrower, slashing blade and various firing projectiles. The Grinder Vehicle is an ATV on steroids. The Grinder Vehicle is instrumental in helping the human travelers gain access through the dangerous and dense forest to the indigenous population. The Grinder is fitted with cannons and missiles that help to blow up the screen action. The Scorpion Gunship provides aerial assault with its missiles and cannons all while providing me with an aerial view of the stunning landscape of Pandora. The movie, Avatar, introduced new ideas of life forms such as the Palulukan. The Palulukan resembles a giant panther like beast with six...

Gun Control

...What quotes is meaningful: Forrest Gump: Will you marry me? Forrest Gump: I'd make a good husband, Jenny. Jenny Curran: You would, Forrest. Forrest Gump: But you won't marry me. Jenny Curran: You don't wanna marry me. Forrest Gump: Why don't you love me, Jenny? I'm not a smart man, but I know what love is. Forrest Gump: My momma always said, "Life was like a box of chocolates. You never know what you're gonna get." By chance he was a college football star. By chance he was a ping pong champion, a Vietnam War hero, a shrimp boat Captain phenom because a hurricane took out every other boat in the area. This made for an amazing adventure through the life of someone who was so pure, so innocent, he couldn't hurt a fly. * It's the ultimate underdog story.  Here we have this simple-minded character who was born with this inescapable handicap of sorts, and he manages to get the cute (but troubled) girl, become an All Star college athlete, attain medals of valor, become an international ping pong star of all things, turn a dream into a multimillion dollar business, become a pop culture icon by simply just running, and then he meets his child who happens to be the smartest boy in his class.  Wow. * It's a story of Americana.  The film is a virtual history lesson of our country, at least in the broad strokes.  We see our country evolve through the eyes of this character.  We are implanted into historical and pop culture moments through the eyes of this character...

A lot more work goes into it than there seems. I have to think “Did I capture the attention? Does my audience know where I’m going with this paper? Is it enough to make them curious to read more?” In the beginning of the semester, my introduction basically went straight into the paper like it was the first body paragraph. It was a confusing surprise. I’ve since worked on my introductions so they give more explanation toward the overall reason for the paper. Even if it’s not the best you’ve ever read, I’m more aware of why it’s not and that there are ways to strengthen it. I’d like to believe because of how self-aware I...

Review

...Of the Movie “The Help” “The Help”, it is a movie based on the book which contain testimonials on the experiences of African-American maids. I remembered I read the book before I watched the movie. The thing I know about the book, it was written and published by a white woman and it was told by the black women who were maids in the 1960s. It gave me some assumptions to go with. Before I start, everything that I will bring up are tightly about the movie and the book. It is like a little summary however the reviews I read are really good concerning the movie and the book. The movie was produced in a small town Jackson, Mississippi. Racial tension was so high at that time. The Black women worked not only as maids in that town, but they practically raised white people’s children too. So far, they were seen as “HELP” and were treated inappropriately and poorly. Skeeter, is a young woman who were living in that town. She gets the idea to write a story about these women who were maids, because of her good experience with the black woman who raised her and took really good care of her when her mother was not around. I really liked and enjoyed this movie. It got my attention and made me cry couple of times while watching some parts. What was so interesting and good about this movie? At the beginning of the movie, the acting was excellent. Viola Davis who played a maid named (Aibileen), she is an amazing woman who was one of the central characters in the movie and Octavia...
