What is cybercrime?
Cybercrime is defined as "crime conducted via the Internet or some other computer network." Criminals do this to steal information such as credit card information, social security number, and any other useful information they might want.
How has a cybercrime contributed to the overall rise in crime rates over the last ten years?
Over the last 10years, the cybercrime has gained momentum and has expanded in all directions. These criminals are label as a hacker and can steal your information or just harass people in many different ways. They accomplish this by virus, Worms, and Trojan Horses all affect the computer or device differently.
What recommendations would you make to combat cybercrime and crimes associated with cybercrime and hackers?
The recommendation I would make would be for the crimes and the punishment because I believe that the punishment is a little weak. In the past, we have never had to deal with this type of crime that leads to not knowing how to punish offenders. The laws should be stronger, and jail time should be severed. If the crime deals with the safety of the nation then it should be a felony charge and federal prison time.
How will cybercrime affect the future of the criminal justice system?
I believe with the advancement of our technology so will the crime activity. We will have to find the better way to fight an enemy with no face. With the change to the criminal justice system to stay ahead of the enemy I believe that threat level will only grow from the hackers. Since, we are becoming more and more dependent on technology for our daily life, it would suggest that we need it to

Internet Pirates Music, Movies and More

...Critical Issues in Criminal Justice JUS-250 April 28, 2014 Internet Pirates Music, Movies and More Most people like listening to good music by the artists they enjoy listening to. Music is expensive when you are on a tight budget and the belt is as tight as it can go. You must choose between getting the newest CD and gasoline for your vehicle. Of course you would choose the gasoline to get back and forth to work or wherever you may have to drive. However you might be able to download the music from your computer. Downloading itself is not illegal but, if a person puts the song on the internet; copies, sells or distributes it for profit that is a crime. No matter what excuses are used it is all a cop out. It does not change the fact that copyrighted material or songs downloaded for profit is theft if it has not been paid for (Amazon). Chances are you may know someone who downloads music or movies from online and this in itself is not illegal. It is when friends start asking if they could get this or that downloaded and they will pay you for this music or movies. The Internet is running rampant with peer to peer (p2p) networks such as LimeWire, Bit Torrent and many others. These sites are where people copy music then put it on these sites for others to copy or use. The act of downloading something illegally falls under the Copyright Act of 1976, a Federal Statute that governs copyright laws in the...

Submit a 4 Page Paper Discussing Three Types of Cybercrime Risks and How Organizations and Individuals Can Protect Themselves from These Schemes. Please Identify at Least One Real-Life Exmaple and Provide Details on the Incident.

...Introduction David S. Wall, author of Cybercrime: The Transformation of Crime in the Information Age, once said, “In a nutshell, we are shocked by cybercrime, but also expect to be shocked by it because we expect it to be there, but – confusingly – we appear to be shocked if we are not shocked (if we don’t find it)!” In today’s society, cybercrimes are considered a greater threat than ever. Computer crime can be defined as a crime that is committed where the computer or electronic data device is integral to the criminal act (Kranacher, Riley, and Wells 114). Although many do not believe that they can cause any vital damage, cybercrimes such as wiretapping, piggybacking, and computer viruses can have significant repercussions on various organizations. By identifying the type of cybercrime, discussing how organizations can protect themselves from it, and multiple real-life examples, an insightful analysis of the implications of cybercrime can be better understood. Wiretapping Wiretapping has become a very common way of committing computer fraud. This occurs when perpetrators read information being transmitted between an organization’s computers. In order to decrease this, companies can implement various encryption techniques to help ensure that confidential information does not reach the hands of a person who can use it with malicious intent (Kranacher, Riley, and Wells 120-21). This information that is obtained could be pertaining to an organization’s consumers, employees...
