Child abuse affects the victim, the family, and society "If the child who has been physically abused is returned to his parents without intervention, 5% are killed and 35% are seriously reinjured. Moreover, the untreated families tend to produce children who grow up to be juvenile delinquents and murders, as well as the batterers of the next generation" (Schmitt and Kempe, 111).
Parents of abused children are often perceived to have been abused and neglected in childhood (Steele and Pollock, 1974). In adulthood, the parents may have more
