Individual Assignment: ‘What is Human Services’ Paper

The goals of the human services are vary many, but most of all they work with people to help them with their lives. There are many different things they can do to help. There is one place a person can go to get help with there children to learn a better way of life with them and this is called children and youth. Children and youth are there to help children that are in need they are there to help stop children abuse. There are many groups that work with people and try to help make life a little better for everyone. The goal is to help people in need and sometimes this is harder then it sounds. They help with food, shelter and clothing to need families. There is so much that a human service worker can do to help all a person has to do is ask for help. The workers go out everyday and try to help people that need it the most but lately this help is hard to find. There are not as many people willing to help someone that is in need. If a family has a house fire and they loss everything, do they know where to go to get help dose anyone know where to go. There are some thing I think that need to be more in the open, like where these places are and how to get help. But the workers can only do what the laws allow them to do. There are up to 300 programs out there to help people in need.

Human service started when the needs of people were not being met the right way people were going with out a lot of thing that they need and there was no one to help them. There is a lot of history with this some say human service started I read one thing that said it started way back in the 1300s with the church’s when they would help people in there town or city with donations and things like that. About 1350 to 1550 there was a lot of pelage in England and the poor were not getting the care they need so the government passed laws that would help the poor get seen by a doctor. But then the poor started demanding so much more so the government had to pass another law to help the people in need. The Elizabethan poor law is said to be the start to the human service programs in many of the nations. In the United States the great depression was the start to police welfare, there were so many people out of work and not being able to provide for there family that this program was set up to help the people in need. Today there are many different programs that people can get into to help them find jobs and help them get food for their family and help them get on there feet for a better life. A worker needs to know what to do in any case. They need to know how to take a bad case and make it so much better for the people involved. But any case can go wrong there are some workers that have lost their lives in the field trying to help others. The workers have to know what they are going into before they walk into a persons home and try to help they have to make sure that they want help, if its children the workers are dialing with then they have to come in and see what’s going on so they can help the child in need. They have to look close and are vary careful when going to a persons home the workers never really know what they are walking into so that they know what they are walking into and the workers do not get hurt. The work of human service is hard and trying on the workers this is because of some of the things they have to do, they might have to remove children from their home away from everything they know, and sometimes its hard to watch the parents say good buy to there children and then there are some that do not care and are willing to have there children removed from the home. But seeing the people that really do care about their children are the ones how might hurt the workers and who might cry and try to change the way they are living and do anything for there children to get them back. This is the hardiest thing a worker has to see the child not knowing where to go and what to do and the parents all upset, it almost makes me up set. I was one of them parents that lost and got back, but it is hard to see the workers come to your home and say they are taking the children and they tell what the reason is and no matter what you say they take them. The workers have to go to homes were there is drug use and people with mental disabilities this is hard to see sometimes. The workers have to live there lives and there have to live there work life they have to know when to leave work at work and home at home. The workers beliefs out side of work do not always apply at work. They might think they are doing the right thing but in the long run they have to follow the laws. There are a lot of laws that have to follow and if the worker dose not follows them they could get into more trouble they want to. The way a worker may think is not always the right way to go about doing things. They have to leave there beliefs behind them and do what the law says is best way about doing something. Lets say the worker thinks going to church is a good thing and they would like to see others going too, but they can not push their beliefs onto anther family that dose not like going to church. This is a hard thing to do with some workers they jus think what they want to. There is so much a worker can do to help and there is so much out there that could hurt them. this is a vary hard job for a person to do because of all the work a person has to do just to help another person.
