“There was a time when all this seemed pretty simple. We had men and women, boys and girls - but now we know that gender is anything but simple” (Petrow). In America and many other places around the world, gender roles have been assigned, yet, over the years this perception has been changing (Buzuvis 4). Women have been previously viewed as less than their male counterparts and have received fewer rights and privileges. There have been efforts towards gender equality. The transgender community adds a whole new dimension to social problems. Everyone is entitled to their own unique opinions which makes including members of the transgender community into the current society very difficult, especially when it comes to sports. Sports are a large part of today’s world from little league all the way up to professional. People …show more content…
Transgender athletes throw a curveball into the equation because many fans believe this is unfair to the cisgender athletes they support. The gender in which transgender athletes participate is controversial due to anatomy; at this point there is not one clear solution due to people’s opinions being present in the biased research currently published. To begin to solve this problem, bias needs to be eliminated from the research to give clear data.
The present world divides many aspects of life by gender, especially sports. Yet, in an attempt to create equality between men’s and women’s sports, Congress passed Title IX in 1972 (Buzuvis 5). With equality of women being a present issue in the United States, transgender athletes add confusion. “Transgender athletes are controversial because their existence disrupts essentialist and binary ideas about sex that are reflected in the historical and contemporary organization of sport” (Buzuvis 3).

...What Is LGBT? LGBT stands for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender and along with heterosexual they describe people's sexual orientation or gender identity. These terms are explained in more detail here. Lesbian A lesbian woman is one who is romantically, sexually and/or emotionally attracted to women. Many lesbians prefer to be called lesbian rather than gay. Gay A gay man is one who is romantically, sexually and/or emotionally attracted to men. The word gay can be used to refer generally to lesbian, gay and bisexual people but many women prefer to be called lesbian. Most gay people don't like to be referred to as homosexual because of the negative historical associations with the word and because the word gay better reflects their identity. Bisexual A bisexual person is someone who is romantically, sexually and/or emotionally attracted to people of both sexes. Transgender or Trans Is an umbrella term used to describe people whose gender identity (internal feeling of being male, female or transgender) and/or gender expression, differs from that usually associated with their birth sex. Not everyone whose appearance or behaviour is gender-atypical will identify as a transgender person. Many transgender people live part-time or full-time in another gender. Transgender people can identify as transsexual, transvestite or another gender identity. Gender Identity One's gender identity refers to whether one feels male, female or transgender (regardless of one's biological...

People in Organisation

...PEOPLE IN ORGANISATIONS Level 7 I. ORGANISATIONAL BEHAVIOUR 1.1. The meaning of organizational behaviour We live in an organizational world. Organizations of one form or another are a necessary part of our society and serve many important needs. The decisions and actions of management in organizations have an increasing impact on individuals, other organizations and the community. It is important, therefore, to understand how organizations function and the influences which they exercise over the behaviors of people. 1.2. The behavior of people Organizational Behaviour is concerned with the study of the behavior of people within an organizational setting. It involves the understanding, prediction and control of human behavior. There is a close relationship between Organizational Behaviour and management theory and practice. The behavior of people, however, cannot be studied in isolation. It is necessary to understand interrelationships with other variables which together comprise the total organization. To do this involves considerations of interactions among the formal structure , the task to be undertaken , the technology employed and the methods of carrying out work, the process of management and the external environment . The study of O B embraces therefore the understanding of : * The behavior of people , * The process of management ; * The organizational context in which the process of management takes place ; * Organizational processes...

...Chapter 1 SIGMUND FREUD AN INTRODUCTION Sigmund Freud, pioneer of Psychoanalysis, was born on 6th May 1856 in Freiberg to a middle class family. He was born as the eldest child to his father’s second wife. When Freud was four years old, his family shifted and settled in Vienna. Although Freud’s ambition from childhood was a career in law, he decided to enter the field of medicine. In 1873, at the age of seventeen, Freud enrolled in the university as a medical student. During his days in the university, he did his research on the Central Nervous System under the guidance of German physician `Ernst Wilhelm Von Brucke’. Freud received his medical degree in 1881and later in 1883 he began to work in Vienna General Hospital. Freud spent three years working in various departments of the hospital and in 1885 he left his post at the hospital to join the University of Vienna as a lecturer in Neuropathology. Following his appointment as a lecturer, he got the opportunity to work under French neurologist Jean Charcot at Salpetriere, the famous Paris hospital for nervous diseases. So far Freud’s work had been entirely concentrated on physical sciences but Charcot’s work, at that time, concentrated more on hysteria and hypnotism. Freud’s studies under Charcot, which centered largely on hysteria, influenced him greatly in channelising his interests to psychopathology. In 1886, Freud established his private practice in Vienna specializing in nervous diseases...

Saylor URL: http://www.saylor.org/books Saylor.org 1 Preface Competing books are focused on the academic part of HRM, which is necessary in a university or college setting. However, the goal with this book is not only to provide the necessary academic background information but also to present the material with a practitioner’s focus on both large and small businesses. While the writing style is clear and focused, we don’t feel jargon and ten-dollar words are necessary to making a good textbook. Clear and concise language makes the book interesting and understandable (not to mention more fun to read) to the future HRM professional and manager alike. It is highly likely that anyone in business will have to take on an HRM role at some point in their careers. For example, should you decide to start your own business, many of the topics discussed will apply to your business. This is the goal of this book; it is useful enough for the HRM professional, but the information presented is also applicable to managers, supervisors, and entrepreneurs. Besides these differences, other key differences include the following:   This book utilizes a technology focus and shows how HRM activities can be leveraged using technology. We have also included a chapter on communication and information...
