...I think that different people have different understanding of basketball. A few days ago in the U.S. presidential election, people know that Obama does well in basketball, and that he is a left-hander. When a journalist asked him,” what will you take action in the sport such as basketball if you won the election campaign?” He said,” I think that sport is the same as politics.” That is Obama’s attitude towards sport. But for me, basketball is not just a sport for keeping healthy, and it is also a kind of spirit. In fact, the first time I learnt about it was an accident. I was eight years old when I was in primary school. And my school started to open up many “special teams” to enrich students’ campus life. There were basketball teams, Ping-Pong teams, martial art teams, music teams, athletics teams, and so on. When I heard this news, I was very happy because I was interested in martial art very much at that time. Although I was just a little boy, I knew that martial art is a part of Chinese culture, and it also can build our body. But it was unlucky when a teacher came to my class to register students, and I just wanted to join it and forgot asking whether he was in martial art teams or not. After three days when basketball team called me for training, I realized that I had made a big mistake. I told coach that I wanted to change a team. But he said you could not go to other teams until...

...was a little girl, my parents gave me all the things I need to make me have the mentally that we weren’t poor. Choices around me weren’t for me to say. I was too young to make decisions for myself. And some I just had no choice but to accept. I didn’t have an issue listening to my parents because I enjoy having things handed to me and besides I was too clueless to know what the right decisions were. Being young was the greatest time of my life. Everyday my mom would pick out my outfits before I sleep and after I wake up. Food was made and I was ready to eat. There was no such thing as chores until I got to the age of 10. I couldn’t be 5 for the rest of my life, and time made me know what I didn’t want to understand. Unfortunately, I was bullied but it wasn’t physically. I was made fun of because of my appearance and my race, which was what I had to accept. The boys in my class would constantly say how I’m tomboy and how I look nothing like a girl. I couldn’t stand how they would make fun of my day by day, so I took action. At the age of 14 was when I started to curse. I decided let them bully me and not rebel back; they would think I’m weak. I couldn’t take this and I knew it wasn’t the right thing to do. I was aggressive with my words and tackle their weak areas. I had to forcefully do what did from being hurt menially. The next thing was race, which was the hardest part to accept. Just because I was Asian, kids from outside the school would call me “Chink” or they would...

...always interesting me that I want to try and learn one time in my life. It is an art that most of people want to discover and experience. I used to try some kind of dance like aerobic, or zumba. However, this was the first time I tried in modern dance that gave me strong expression. I have done the first modern dance class in my life. During the class, I have seen some changes in my body. They are just small changes, but I can fell it. I still remembered the first days of class; I felt down a lot because I could not flexible with the directions. I just kept in mind that I had to turn right to the left or to the right. It made my steps hard and not flexible. However, now I realized that I just needed to let my body move the way it wants to. I should not care a lot about moving right or wrong. As well as so, I feel my body is more flexible and dynamic now. Every part in my body can move almost exactly the way I want them to be like leg, foot, arm, belly, etc. Especially, I really loved the way the professor let us have free dance between the exercises. I was not a good dance person. However, I learnt a lot. I learnt from the professor, and I also learnt was from my classmates. I often looked at the way they danced. From that, I repeated them by my own style and creating. Free dance time was my favorite time of class because I could learn a lot and express myself most. I think it was really a good way to learn new thing and create something new. Overall, my body changed somehow...

...What was the objective of the task? The objective of this task was to gain the highest possible points by constructing a tower made of newspaper and joint together by sticky tape. We were competing against several other teams in which I believe my team was one of the most efficient out of the other four or five teams. We had forty minutes in order to complete the task so we had to use our time wisely in order to gain the highest possible marks. How can you measure its success (what is your criteria and why) I could measure the objectives success by analysing what I and the team did wrong and what we did badly as individuals or as a team. I believe I contributed on how we were going to structure this tower in order for it to be stable and match the criteria which was given i.e. - the structure had to be stable in order to gain points. At one point of the activity there was conflict between the team but me and a few other members of the group decided to be the bigger people and compromise as it would reduce conflict within the team. Advantages of Working in a Team There are many advantages of teamwork. We’ve all heard the phrase “two heads are better than one.” If you have more minds set on a specific goal, you can have access to more ideas. Looking at things from the perspective of others can increase the likelihood of quality improvement. Teams create an environment of support and push people towards performance. A team environment can boost the confidence of individuals, allowing...

...on my second career. My previous life consisted of working in the coal mines till I was injured. My injury, however, is considered a blessing in disguise. My injury has leaded me to the world of education. I have seen first hand the difference an educator can make in the life of a child; the child was my own son. My eldest son, diagnosed with Asperger’s Syndrome, was unable to communicate. He had the opportunity to be enrolled in the early intervention program in Raleigh County. The first individual with the challenge of assisting my child was not able to fulfill her roles and think “outside of the box” to reach him. My wife and I promptly searched for the appropriate educator for him. My family was blessed when we found “Ms. Mitzi”. In the matter of weeks our son was able to tell his mommy he loved her. This impacted my life significantly and I wish to be able to pass on what was given to my child and my family. I chose education as my career path because I hope to be able to make a small difference in a child’s life. Time and time again I have seen children being educated poorly and/or not having appropriate role models in their life. I feel that an educator must not only be able to convey to the student the classroom material, but also be a counselor, coach, mentor, and a parent. Failing to fulfill these roles gives a child the chance to slip through the educational system without having the opportunity to influence them to some degree. I can not narrow down my educational...

...TaQuisha Roland ETH/125 April 23, 2011 ALICEIA ATKINSON This Autobiographicl I will talk about the beginning of slavery and where it has leaded us to today. In this research paper I will write in a first- person account on how human interactions in your community have been radicalized. For my community, I will consider relations within the neighborhood, local government, service groups, clubs, schools, workplace, or any environment of which I am a part of. According to Richard T. Schaefer, Racial and Ethnic Groups (2006), The African Americans presence in the United States began almost simultaneously with permanent White settlement. Unlike most Europeans, however, the African people were brought involuntarily and in bondage. The end of slavery heralded new political rights during reconstruction, but this was short-lived era of dignity. Despite advocacy of nonviolence by leads such as the Reverend Martin Luther King, Jr., the civil rights civil rights movement met violent resistance throughout the South. In the mid-1960s, the nation’s attention was diverted to urban violence in the North and the West. Blacks responded to their relative deprivation and rising expectations by advocating Black Power, which in turn met with White resistance. While African Americans have made significant gains, the gap between Blacks and Whites remains remarkably unchanged in the last half century. Religion was and continues to be a major force in the African American community. (Richard T...

...a native English speaker I was worried that either the members of the groups will take me into their groups. As the class began my tutor John asked us to write our names in a tag and wear it, we were also required to sit in away so that we are facing each other in the class. John then asked to start the first activity which was to introduce the member sitting in front of each of the students. My mate sitting in front of me was Liam and he is working in hospital as a part time employee. On the other hand Abdul sitting next to me is doing HR as major. I felt that by undertaking this activity john was trying to develop our team or classmates and build strong relationship within our group. The activity enabled students get to know each other and It was about to think which group or people I would join for the group task. Finally at the end of the class john formed us in a small group and also helped us to understand the unit outline. Reflecting & Inferring By being a part of the introductory class I realised that we were all in the same track and therefore we needed to introduce ourselves so that we can all reach our task. The first task was to form PLG(Peer Learning Group) which did require us to know each other so that we are well fitted in a group. It was a challenge for me to meet the other member in the LLG. Although I knew Abdul before the situation which was quite comfortable for me moreover, other students behaved in the same way as they were trying to be open to meet...

For example in the very beginning Jobs and Wozniak created Apple I in 1975 and the sales were good. Later on Apple II was produced in 1977 and we saw that the company made $3 million. ...fixed mindset that he can not and no one should ever be like his father, a lazy man, and this played a major part in why he was unable to adapt to the new changes. We first start first start to see his opposition on his father take place when Okonkwo, is first being described on how he gained his status after being born to his father. “He had begun even in his father’s life time to lat the foundations of a prosperous future. It was slow and painful. But he threw himself into it like one possessed. And indeed he was possessed by the fear of his father's contemptible life and shameful death,”(18). We see his fixed mindset appear, again while Okonkwo is in a meeting to discuss the next ancestral feast when “a man had contradicted him at a kindred meeting which they held to discuss the next ancestral feast. Without looking at the man Okonkwo had said, ‘This meeting is for men.’ the man who contradicted him had no titles.”(26) Okonkwo is ill equipped to adapt to the changes that the british bring with them as they colonize africa, because he believed so strongly in what his old culture was:...

...drawn. The square of communication and the model of the Vicious Circle will be applied in the following. Situation This spring I’ve been interning at a big German company for three months. During this internship my task was to analyze different parameters of all plants of this company, which are operating in the sector of my department. The results of this survey were to be presented to a group consisting of eight to ten managers including the head of the department, at the end of my internship. Due to shortcomings in organizational maters from the side of the company, I did not have any access to a computer for the first two weeks of my internship, making it impossible to actually work on my project. As this meant a loss of almost 20 % of my working time, I had to complete my project under time pressure. Knowing, that time will be a limiting factor, my supervisors’ days are literally packed with meetings and I might not get to speak to him if I wouldn’t arrange it ahead of time, I had already set up a couple of meetings shortly before the presentation. In those meetings, open issues and questions from my side were to be discussed. Moreover my analysis required indepth knowledge of the companies’ policies. Therefore I was very dependent on regular meetings with my supervisor in order to make sure everything has been interpreted correctly. Therefore, I had scheduled a meeting...

...Nature or Nurture? A A few years ago, in one of the most fascinating and disturbing experiments in behavioural psychology, Stanley Milgram of Yale University tested 40 subjects from all walks of life for their willingness to obey instructions given by a 'leader' in a situation in which the subjects might feel a personal distaste for the actions they were called upon to perform. Specifically, Milgram told each volunteer 'teacher-subject' that the experiment was in the noble cause of education, and was designed to test whether or not punishing pupils for their mistakes would have a positive effect on the pupils' ability to learn. B Milgram's experimental set-up involved placing the teacher-subject before a panel of thirty switches with labels ranging from '15 volts of electricity (slight shock)' to '450 volts (danger - severe shock)' in steps of 15 volts each. The teacher-subject was told that whenever the pupil gave the wrong answer to a question, a shock was to be administered, beginning at the lowest level and increasing in severity with each successive wrong answer. The supposed 'pupil' was in reality an actor hired by Milgram to simulate receiving the shocks by emitting a spectrum of groans, screams and writhings together with an assortment of statements and expletives denouncing both the experiment and the experimenter. Milgram told the teacher-subject to ignore the reactions of the pupil, and to administer whatever level of shock was called for, as per the rule governing...
