In any Greek myth they like to give reason for anything that exists on Earth and how it was created. They also give lessons that people learn from. One important character in Greek mythology is Helios a Titan God of The Sun and light. The stories made by The Greeks give reason for things that they don't know and give an explanation for it, like how The Sun goes up and down, and The Light that comes from The Sun.
When it comes to Gods we all know the main one Zeus, god of the sky, thunder, and lightning but want we don't know is that there was Titan Gods that came before him and the other Olympian Gods in Greek Mythology. Who came to visit Helios because he never met his father before. Helios made the decision to grant his son’s wish or desire. Phaethon wished to ride Helios’ chariot, Helios warned Phaethon that “You are mortal and no mortal could drive my chariot” (Hamilton 137) but Helios granted it to him for he had said “I call the styx to be witness to my promise, the river of oath of the gods.”(Hamilton 137) So Phaethon road the chariot and as Helios said Phaethon was not able to control the chariot and crashed the chariot, almost setting the whole world into flames but that was prevented. As for the death of Phaethon, that was not prevented. The Sisters of Phaethon, Helios and those who went to the funeral and weeped were turned into Poplar trees and forever weeped into The Eirdanus river that put out the flames that Phaethon made.
