What to do if Garage Door Remote Stop Functioning Instantly
A garage door remote control is an electronic device which enables a garage door to open or close without getting down from the car and unnecessary lifting the heavy garage door. An infra red signal is sent from the remote to the receiver at the door which enables the motor fixed at the garage door to activate a switch that in turn opens or close the garage door.
There may be various reasons due to which a garage remote may not work: * Infra red signal strength: The remote must be within the range of the garage. If it is away from the stated distance then the signals will not be received by the receiver fixed at the garage door. * Batteries: Check the batteries. Replace batteries if required. The batteries must be in good working condition. Weak or dead batteries will fail in sending signals. * Battery Terminals: Check for the battery terminals. If the battery terminals are covered with dirt, gently clean them. If the terminals loosen up with time gently tighten them up by pinching. If the terminals are wet, then it needs to be cleaned with a sand paper or steel wool and dried before inserting new batteries. * Reset: Sometimes reset may be required for the remote to work efficiently. Resetting the remote is done by removing the batteries for at least 30 seconds and re installing them. Resetting the receiver is done by plugging it out from the wall socket plug for at least 30 seconds and re-plugging it. * Buttons: Check the buttons if they are working correctly. If the buttons required repeated pushing then replace the remote. * Sensors: Check for the safety sensors installed at about 5 inches off the floor. Each sensor will have a red, green or yellow light. If the sensor is not working the remote or receiver will also stop working. * Lens: The lens at the safety sensors must be clean. Check the safety sensors. If required clean the sensors. * Wiring: check the wires for any bad wiring. Check for short circuit. Check for any dirt at the wire end. Check the wires and clean them if needed. Cut the plastic ends of the wires and attach it to the censors. Repair or replace any shorted wiring. * Power: Check the power. They may not be power back up in the garage so make sure there is power available in the garage. * Manual mode: Check for the manual mode in motor. It may go into the manual mode following a power failure. Resetting might be of great help. * Check if the door does not open or close fully. If so then remove and objects interfering the way. Check the door if it requires repair. If the motor and remote is not working, then try to open the or close the garage door manually till the motor is not repaired. Call the service technician if there is any fault. Avoid repairing unless you are well qualified in repairing electronic appliances. Take help if required. While doing so be sure that thre are no children or pets around.
