Welcome to WritePoint, the automated review system that recognizes errors most commonly made by university students in academic essays. The system embeds comments into your paper and suggests possible changes in grammar and style. Please evaluate each comment carefully to ensure that the suggested change is appropriate for your paper, but remember that your instructor's preferences for style and format prevail. You will also need to review your own citations and references since WritePoint capability in this area is limited. NOTE: WritePoint comments are computer-generated writing and grammar suggestions inviting the consideration and analysis of the writer; they are not infallible statements of right/wrong, and they should not be used as grading elements. Also, at present, WritePoint cannot detect quotations or block-quotes, so comments in those areas should be ignored. Please see the other helpful writing resources in the Tutorials and Guides section of the Center for Writing Excellence. Thank you for using WritePoint.

Personal Responsibility Begin your [Eliminate second person (you, your) in academic documents and avoid addressing the reader directly. Prefer third-person pronouns (he, she, they, it)] paper [This title could be more inspiring. Labeling it a "paper" or an "essay" is redundant (what else could it be?), and only a few words as a title are not very explanatory (or intriguing to the reader). An ideal title has between six and a dozen words ] here. Double space the entire document. Be [If this is not in a title, avoid the imperative mood (a command) in academic writing because it addresses the reader personally (an unwritten "you," which is the second person narrative mode)] sure to indent the first line of each paragraph between five and seven spaces by pressing the Tab key one time [Spelling: as an adjective, these two words should be a single hyphenated word] on the keyboard. Happy writing!
Personal Responsibility Personal responsibility is taking accountability for one’s actions, accepting the consequences that come from those actions, and understanding that what he or she does have an effect on those around. It is neither black nor white. It would be wonderful to say that people contribute to the progression of humankind in a positive way and may be so. However, no matter who people are, they are still human, which is to say that they are an amalgam of feelings, behaviors, and attitudes that defies good or bad, right or, wrong. Many people associate responsibility with duty and obligations, which in turn, are thought of as burdens. Personal responsibility is not a burden, it is a blessing. This becomes clear when people understand that personal responsibility is nothing than the freedom to create ones own life. Yes, responsibility is equated with freedom and power. Once awakened to this fact, individuals become liberated, and empowered. Once they become aware of this truth, they shed their victim mentality and gain the power to transform (Responsibility Is Not, It’s a Blessing, 2012, Para 2). Accepting and showing responsibility is the right attitude to have when trying to transform and succeed at whatever life has to offer. It shows growth and wisdom. When acquiring the right kind of attitude, people are less likely to create unnecessary problems. If problems occur out of one’s control, the individual will more likely respond too him or her optimistically and bounce back. Without personal responsibility can lead to a life of destruction. It can affect life’s outcome; such as home, family, workplace, and even school. According to The Association of American Colleges and Universities surveyed, 23 institutions of undergraduate students found that when asked about five dimensions of personal and social responsibility, “striving for excellence, cultivating personal and social responsibility, contributing to a larger community, taking perspectives of others serious, developing competence in ethical and moral reasoning.” More than 50% of the respondents said they strongly agree that each of the five dimensions should be a major focus at their institutions (Personal Responsibility. Anti Essays. Retrieved May 20, 2012, Para 2). Taking personal responsibility is not and easy task and can be quit demanding. Nonetheless, if one stay open minded and implement those five dimensions mentioned in the above article into their everyday lives, how can one not have success, such as college success.
Personal Responsibility and College Success College success is having the ability to do whatever it takes to lead a productive educational life that is satisfying; personal responsibility have to reflect within one’s college success. Personal responsibility involve working on an individuals character and skill development; therefore college success is achieving goals that have been set to complete college courses and beyond. Personal responsibility and college success have to work as a cohesive unit and choosing life that makes one personally happy. The Role of Recognition and Life Satisfaction article examines the mediating role of life satisfaction between positive recognition and levels of personal growth initiative in a collegiate setting.
