I decided to enroll for my first time, only thing was it was online, so that made me super nervous. We ended up taking two courses together and did very well. ...When I started school, it felt like I was out of place. I could tell that I was different but, could not explain why. In my mind a lot of what they taught us seemed useless. And none of what they taught kept my attention long enough; I was not able concentrate on one thing at a time. It just seemed that everything about school I hated. I could not help the way I thought about school. The teachers made it worse; they did not care about the students there. I felt like I was doing the same thing every day. So eventually I decided to not do my work. After a while the teacher decided to put me behind a small wall secluded from the class. It was a couple of weeks before I decided I did not want to go to school any more. Then my mom found out what the teacher was doing, it did not go over well. I’m pretty sure the principle was scared shit less. Needless to say I was not behind the wall any more. I can say I had good friends while I went there. One day I had a major migraine, everyone thought I was just faking it but one of my friends decided to walk me to the nurse. At the time the teacher was not in the class room, but on the way to the nurse she told us to go back. I don’t remember much after that. A couple of years later we had a new school in Wellsville. Same teachers unfortunately and the same principle, I was always told that he did not like kids. I had been late a lot due to the school being in a new area, walking there was the only choice I had. Apparently the teacher...

Everyone told me not to go, that I wouldn’t make it a month and wouldn’t be long before I was back home. I was determined to prove my family wrong. My parents and I took a trip to Dallas for a campus tour. I loved every minute of the tour, but on the way home my mom told me that if I wanted to go to school there, I would have to raise the money on my own. After I graduated, I decided to take some side courses like Art and Photography while working to raise the money. Because I was unsure of which career path I wanted to study in school, after two years of working for my family company, they decided it was time for me to look for a job and stop pursing school. At the age of 20 I started working for Cato’s a women’s clothing company, about a year into working there I was named first assistant and no longer thought about going to school or raising the money to go. On my birthday, Oct. 8, 2010, I woke up that morning and decided that I was going back to school. I had toyed around with the idea for a long time, but was never really serious enough to do anything about it. I thought I was too old. I also thought that I never would be able to afford it, but I met someone that was as nearly as old as I am, and she had gone back 2 years ago. She convinced me to check out financial help, and how she was doing it. I toyed around with it for a while, and then I just woke up that morning and decided that what I wanted to do. ...Why I Decided to Return Back To School 6/19/14 Kathy Davis Professor Nancy Segovia Returning back to school was a very natural decision for me. It seemed to be the next logical step in my personal and careers goals. My ultimate goal is to be healthy and happy and be a good role model for my family members. I am more mature with my decision to return back to school now. The initial thought I had about returning back to school was that of apprehension due to the fact that I struggled a great deal throughout junior and high schools and had a false belief for years that I would not be successful if I attempted to go to college. I let my twenties, thirties, and my forties pass me bye with this belief firmly in me in my thinking and there was no one or anything to convince me of anything else, because I allowed my fear of failure to rule me all these year. I wanted to do something that was really going to have a lasting impact to someone’s life. Immediately thought about my children, letting them know it’s never too late to get a degree from any college. Going back to school can be a tough decision but being positive and having confidence can lead to success. Now that I am stable in life than I was when I finished or even years ago when I was considering going to school again I am more mature with why I decided to return back to the decisions I made forward toward...

...families. They’ve decided they want more in life to be successful in whatever they put their minds into. Sometimes people have to make decisions in life that they don’t want to do. The decision that I made to go back to school was because my mom graduated and got her degree, to get my own degree, and for career advancement. When my mom got out of the Navy for serving her country for 20 years, she went back to school to finish up her degree. Seeing her being focused, going to school when she got off of work, or when we got home from church, she would be right there on the computer, doing homework or in the book studying for her exams. When I went to her graduation and saw her walk on stage to receive her bachelor’s degree, I was very proud and excited. Now she’s working on getting her master’s degree. Seeing my mom accomplish so much in life made me go back to school and get my own degree so I can feel like I accomplished something out of life too. Another reason that I decided to go back to college was to get my degree. I’ve been in school for six years and have nothing to prove for it. I’m in school to get my bachelor’s degree so I can feel proud of myself and show the world what I have accomplished. Getting my degree is very important because now jobs are looking for people who have their degrees. Finally, another reason I’m going back to school is career advancement. I want to be able to get a better high paying job, so I don’t have to work paycheck to paycheck. I want a career...
