...one doing anything to stop that behavior, if you do anything people hate you. In our daily lives we face many decisions that are minor but affect our future. For example, do you go with the crowd and bully someone or do you attempt to do the morally correct thing and stand up to the bullying and face social harassment of your own? The Crucible, by Arthur Miller is a play about an affair between John Proctor and Abigail Williams and most importantly the Salem witch trials. Innocent people are being accused of witches for no reason and people blindly follow along, but John Proctor dies to go against the conformity. In...

...In the novel The Things They Carry it talks about all the things a solider has to carry with them whether that be emotionally or physically. Often we fail to realize what soldiers have to go through physically and emotionally, and how that impacts them. Many people fail to realize that war changes a person but I’ve came to realize that after war soldiers have a better understanding of right vs. wrong. Soldiers face life changing experiences that an average human being may never have to face. Right vs. wrong can be changed in certain situations due to the circumstances. Soldiers experience life changing experiences during war. This is why often soldiers come back with post traumatic stress disorder. They go through several months away from...

...class, and to tell them what the right or wrong voice is in a difficult situation. There are many things college students are pressured into in the work today, like pressure to do well in school, to go out, or to develop better studying habits. Although peers can have an effect on the college experience, parents can as well. Parents almost always pressure their children to do well in college. Some already have a mindset on what kind of grades they want their children to have. One way a parent could pressure their child to do well in college is, they may bribe them with a special gift at the end of the semester. Another way is, a parent just might have a high expectation and the child may feel pressured to meet that expectation. Parents pressuring their children can be very good for them. It is good for them because they want to show their family how smart they are, and that they can do it. When a person is pressured to do well, it makes him or her feel like someone cares about his or her future. By having a caring person pressure him or her, they want to succeed and make them happy. Although college is about getting an education to find a career, there is nothing wrong with going out and having fun, but when someone pressures their friend to go, that is when it becomes difficult. There is nothing wrong with a person going out, but when he or she knows that they have homework due, that’s a problem. If someone wants a person to go out with them, but they have...

...woman and vice versa. I think that there is somebody for everybody and many people may not find that in the opposite sex. Same sex couples are treated as if they are not citizens when they are just like the rest of us. I’m not into women but I think that we were all created equals and should be treated the same way. We should all be given the same privileges and rights. No matter what life we choose to live, we should all be able to express our love to the person we choose to spend our lives with through marriage without any restrictions. Marriage has been defined as a legal binding between one woman and one man. That definition of marriage is unfair to many same sex couples because they are not given the right to legally marry the person who they have chosen to spend their life with. So many people think they choosing to be with a person of the same sex is morally wrong, but same sex couples may feel as if being with someone of the opposite sex is wrong. Everyone has a different outlook on life and nobody should be forced to be with someone who they don’t want to be with because there is so much discrimination in the world. Although marriage has been given a definition my outlook on marriage is totally different than what the definition says. The word marriage has been given such a narrow definition when the title is so broad....

Whether it was lying, respecting my mom, or getting myself into something I had no business being in. When I became more mature the things started to fade away but they played a major role in my life when I was younger. I use to lie almost every day, not matter who I was talking too. Just because I was scared to take on any punishment that was coming my way for my wrong doings. I would do things like steal money, hit someone, and even set traps up around the house to hurt someone. I would always lie about me being the one for all of the wrong doing. I had a sister and brother so they would be the ones that I push off all of my problems on....

...unintentionally, mistakes are mistakes. And as we are human beings, we have no power to press rewind and do things over. It’s done, it’s there, we have to deal with it – that’s life. I would like to thank you because : For the new experiences and adventures we gained from traveling For the stories we shared simply because we needed someone to talk to, For the mistakes we made that got us into trouble but made us closer, For the disagreements that helped us accept each other for who we really are, For the laughter and smiles we shared, For the times we helped each other out, For the nights we watched movies or series together, For the pictures we took together… The past will always be a part of our lives we can’t control. It’s done. Whatever happened, happened. Whoever came and stayed, stayed; and the others, well maybe they just weren’t meant to make it to the present. But who knows about the future, right? I’ve realized not too long ago that I’ve been trapping myself in the past, comparing whatever happens to what already happened. And by doing so, I’ve unconsciously been restricting myself of enjoying what I have now. The habit to compare the past to the future comes from the fear of repeating the past. A way I’ve grown used to to avoid being hurt again, and maybe of completely letting go of the past. The past holds secrets, memories, stories – of people, places and things that have contributed to who you are as a person today. They don’t necessarily have to be good...

...can't" behaviors: A.) I can't admit that I am wrong with my friends. There has been many times where I never want to swallow my pride and admit that I am in the wrong. I have the hardest time accepting that I am not right. Even if I can't justify my side of the story I never want to be the first to make peace because I am so stuck on my own perspective. B.) I can't stop starting arguments with my girlfriend. I am very narrow minded that I have difficulties understanding the other person. I am always the one to jump into conclusions even when it is irrelevant to the topic. It does not have to be anything big for me to find a way to argue about anything because I always end up finding a way to have something to say about. C.) I can't accept feedbacks from my mother without getting into an argument. Because my mother is not fluent in English and I don't speak Hindi (Indian) to my mother, there is a language barrier between us. It is very difficult for my mother and I to communicate because she does not understand a lot of the things I need to tell her or vice versa. More than half of the time we spend arguing than talking to one another. D.) I can't stop holding grudges over little unnecessary things. ...Our nation has gone to war and it’s my turn to go. This war we are engaged in to me is unjust but it’s my civic duty to my country to go and fight. After learning about Socrates I begin to think what would he tell me? Socrates being a man of principles would tell me to go and serve my country on the front lines. He would let me know that this country has given me all that I have earned; all that I have gotten why now would I turn my back to them if I agreed to live in this country all this time. Today I believe even though there is no “draft” there is still a big dilemma when we go to fight in wars that many people may have. It s funny to hear people complain about all the wrong or unjust things we as a country are doing in the wars we are actively involved in today but they do not complain about the society they live in with freedoms, equality and the pursuit to happiness. I would go and put my reservations aside to serve my country if drafted. To me it would be what I owe to the place that allowed me to prosper, educated me and groomed me. After reading the Crito it’s so many things we take for granted that is provided to us. No one is held against their will in most of today’s society to stay in the country they live. They may not have the means to leave but they are not forced. When your country come calling whether it’s to be a productive citizen or to become a solider I believe it’s your duty and what is owed to them to answer. In the case of Socrates I believe it...

...The “Blue Wall of Silence” and Police Culture Tiffany V. Dunston CMRJ308 Everyday there are law enforcement officers that see unusual things happen when arriving on a scene of a crime or even if they are already on the scene of a crime with other law enforcement officers. Police officers behavior while on duty will always be a problem and it will continue to be a problem from because officers sometimes think just because they wear a badge they think that they have all the power in the world. The also think that they are required to protect each other no matter what. Here we look at the “Blue Wall of Silence” and “Police Culture” to distinguish what they are and their effects. There are still some good cops in this world that will stand up for what they believe in and they really do uphold the law by protecting and serving the citizens of this country. Then you have the cops that see that other cops are doing wrong and they don’t say a word, this is call the “Blue Wall of Silence”. The Blue Wall of Silence is a phrase used in law enforcement which means when an officer is observing another officer committing acts that do not uphold the law such as using excessive force towards another officer or a suspect and things of that nature. I applaud cops that believes that everyone should be treated with respect and one’s that follows the rules of being a police officer in their community because there are only so many of those types of officers. Cops that commit heinous acts...

...The Wrong Decision for the Right Reason I sat there thinking it was a joke. No way could my parents do this to me. How could they abandon me like this? This was definitely not happening. My parents were kicking me out. Yes I probably made the wrong decision by being disrespectful but it was to stick up for my mom which was for the right reason. Before I go any further in this story let me explain my brother’s condition. My little brother, Colt, was diagnosed with mental retardation. He was really far behind in school and his social skills were horrible. My mom knew something was wrong and fought to figure out what was wrong since the day he was born and to see what she could do to make it better. My dad was and still is in denial. My mom decided to quit her job to try to help my brother catch up and live the most “normal” life possible. I’m very protective over my brother. Anyone is protective over their siblings but when you find out they have something wrong, like mental retardation, you’re even more protective. I would tolerate anyone bulling my brother or ridiculing my mother’s decisions about my brother. We were eating lunch at Applebee’s. It was my mom, my dad, my dad’s two friends (Brian and Danny), and me. We were all talking and having a good time. Although I didn’t really care for Brian and Danny I could tolerate them. Also keep in mind my dad, Brian, and Danny are all police officers, which means they seem to think being rude is hilarious. Danny and Brian started...

...one. Throughout the entire book I could relate most, if not all, of what was written to my everyday life. Most of all I have come to realize how I’ve played a crucial role in many conflicts in my past even when I believed I did nothing wrong. I think my biggest takeaway from this book is that everyone plays a part in conflict, that blame does nothing but make things worst and that feelings (when controlled) are a lot more important than I thought. I’ve also learned that I need to let go of a lot of things and start moving on with life. The blame frame: “produces disagreements, denial, and little learning. Evokes fear of punishment. We end up defending ourselves.” I find myself playing the blame game way too often. I was happy to read that everyone contributes when there is conflict. Everyone has a role even if they think they don’t. Thinking back to past conflicts i’ve realized that I find it difficult to move from blaming to a learning conversation. I’ve managed to convince myself that conflict is about right and wrong when really its about learning about the other person’s point of view, their feelings, and coming to an understanding rather than concluding with who’s right or wrong. It talks about how people see the world differently and that’s ok. Everyone interprets things differently, due to experiences from the past, and makes their own conclusions about the world and what they...
