...includes questions about where you see yourself five years from now. (Others are about your greatest strength or weakness.) While there’s certainly no one “right” answer for a question like that, some approaches work better than others. OSE ANNOYING INTERVIEW QUESTIONS by L. Bosco Interviews are a pain in the neck! Ideally you want to see if there’s a good fit between you and the employer. But most interviews are full of those “pat questions” that have been written up endlessly in books and even on blogs where so-called experts give job applicants handy-dandy “pat answers” to those over-used “pat questions.” So basically both sides could just as well e-mail in their parts and save everyone a lot of time. It’s a rare interviewer who knows how to create a really informative interview. So job seekers must still sit through these often painful interviews (some where the interviewer is barely listening) and be prepared to answer these same silly questions: What is your greatest weakness? What are your strengths? How would you handle an angry customer? And, my personal not-favorite: “Where do you want to be in 5 years?” I always want to answer that last one with something like “living in Bora Bora on my lotto winnings” or “King of Siam” or at least “Sophia’s latest lover.” (The name mentioned to be filled in by you based on your own gender, age, preferences, and imagination.) (Note from Work Coach: Uh…I’m not recommending you do that!) It is a question where virtually any answer...

...Dept General Advice Before you go for your interview you need to find out everything you can about the company. Reread your application/CV/covering letter, so that you can think about your skills and qualifications, and also questions that you might be asked. In order to do well in the interview you need to be able to convince the interviewer that you have the right skills for the job, this will include your motivation towards the job, how well you will fit into the company, along with meeting their academic and skills requirements. You should dress smartly and appropriately and should leave in plenty of time allowing for possible delays, so that you are not late. Remember first impressions last! Tips It's a good idea to ask for a glass of water, as you will be doing a lot of talking, but it’s also good to take a sip if you want a few seconds to think about the question asked. • Ensure that you are sitting comfortably in a position where you can address all the interviewers. • Make sure that you remember the names of the interviewers, and take note of their various roles. First Impressions Most people make an initial opinion of a stranger within the first five minutes of meeting them. According to research employers' impressions are made up of the following: Body Language and image (70%) Tone of voice (20%) What you say (10%) As soon as you enter the building you need to be polite to everyone you meet. You need to remain calm and confident...

...What is your greatest strength? My greatest strength is my ability to quickly adapt. Whether it's with new people or environments I always adapt well. What is your greatest weakness? My greatest weakness would be my constant critique of myself and my work. How do you handle pressure at work? I handle pressure at work by taking brief moments to compose myself before continuing. However most times I avoid pressure before it occurs if it's something that is in my control. For example I will do my work when I am supposed to so it doesn't sneak up on me. Describe a difficult work situation/project and how you overcame it. One afternoon the kids I tutor couldn't seem to focus. They were really tired and didn't feel like doing any work. I mixed...

... If you’re reading this, then you’ve already taken the first step - you’re interested in making changes to become a healthier and more awesome version of yourself. Now, I don’t just help ANYBODY get healthy - I’m only looking for people to join our Rebellion that are willing to put in the time, energy, and effort to actually follow through with this stuff. I’m Steve Kamb, creator of Nerd Fitness, and I know that getting healthy can be difficult. If it was easy, everybody would be walking around looking like King Leonidas from 300 or Lara Croft from Tomb Raider. However, just because it ain’t easy doesn’t mean it ain’t possible! 1 00 One of the most important Rules of the Rebellion is that, “we don’t care where you came from, only where you’re going.” I don’t care if you’re 600 pounds or 100 pounds, guy or gal, young or old, tall or short, alive or undead...I only care that you want to be better today than you were yesterday. So, I created a resource that helps you start kicking ass on day one. I’ve been running Nerd Fitness for over four years, helped thousands and thousands of people get healthy, answered 2 10,000+ emails, and dealt with people in every single situation, at every level of fitness under the sun. I’ve also seen people from every situation turn into a superhero version of themselves. I want you to be one of those superheroes. In...

...interviewed three individuals of different ages, asking them five of the same questions in an attempt to classify them within Erickson’s Stages of Psychological Development. My first subject, Miss Delightful, was a lively six year old girl that loved to talk. I went to her house where we had met at several different grown-up functions prior to the interview, and there we proceeded to talk for 45 minutes. My second subject was my thirty-two year old buddy, Big Red. We met three years ago on the Ocoee River when I moved back to town. I interviewed him at my house for about ten minutes. My third subject was my seventy-nine year old Grandmother: sweet, always perfect hair, and willing to give you good words of encouragement and advice Grandmother. At my grandparents’ home we had coffee and cake while I spent a half hour listening to sound words of wisdom. Interview #1 “Miss. Delightful, where do you see yourself in 10 years?” Her response, “I see myself being able to say all my ABC’s and being able to play a whole song on the piano.” Then I asked, “So what is a good age to get married?” She replied, “At the age of 10.” Next I asked, “Who is your hero/who do you look up to the most?” With her mom ten feet away, she stated, “DADDY.” Then I proceeded to ask, “How are boys and girls different?” She replied, “Because their birthdays are different, they get different stuff.” Then I asked, “What are three words that best describe you?” Miss Delightful was confused by the question, so...

...vast majority of my life I didn’t believe I could do most of the things I wanted to do. I knew I wanted to be in a relationship, but I feared that if I got into one I’d do something to mess it up. I wanted to perform on Broadway, but even moving to New York City didn’t give me the courage to audition. I wanted to be a writer, but I thought it was far too difficult to get published, and therefore didn’t even try until I turned 27. Maybe you’ve never been as unsure of yourself as I used to be, but you can likely relate to that feeling of wanting to do something but feeling terrified to start[->1]. This not only limits your potential in life; it also minimizes your ability to make a positive impact on the world around you. There’s a lot that goes into overcoming those fears. You may need to challenge limiting beliefs formed years ago, or take yourself out of a situation where other people undermine your abilities. One thing that will definitely help is working on your confidence. Not sure if confidence can be learned? I asked this question[->2] on the Tiny Buddha Facebook page[->3] to see what readers had to say and then used some of their responses to shape these 8 steps outlined below: 1. Tap into the confidence you were born with. I feel it’s something that is always there, something you’re born with that gets lost along the way, or stolen by others. Sometimes you have to dig deep to find it again. ~Amy Lee Tempest You didn’t come out of the womb unsure of your cry or...

T: If you were going to be honest with yourself, how many cigarettes do think you really get enjoyment from C: Maybe four or five. T: Let's spend a moment and look at your smoking logically rather than emotionally. As you have said yourself, it takes you about 4 or 5 minutes to smoke a cigarette. As you have also told me there may be 4 or 5 that you really...
