...Many photographic solutions have high chemical and biological oxygen demand (COD and BOD). These chemical wastes are often treated with ozone, peroxide or aeration to reduce the COD in commercial laboratories. Exhausted fixer and to some extent rinse water contain silver thiosulfate complex ions. They are far less toxic than free silver ion, and they become silver sulfide sludge in the sewer pipes or treatment plant. However, the maximum silver concentration in discharge is very often tightly regulated. Silver is also a somewhat precious resource. Therefore, in most large scale processing establishments, exhausted fixer is collected for silver recovery and disposal. Many photographic chemicals use non-biodegradable compounds, such as EDTA, DTPA, NTA and borate. EDTA, DTPA, and NTA are very often used as chelating agents in all processing solutions, particularly in developers and washing aid solutions. EDTA and other polyamine polycarboxylic acids are used as iron ligands in colour bleach solutions. These are relatively nontoxic, and in particular EDTA is approved as a food additive. However, due to poor biodegradability, these chelating agents are found in alarmingly high concentrations in some water sources from which municipal tap water is taken.[7][8] Water containing these chelating agents can leach metal from water treatment equipment as well as pipes. This is becoming an issue in Europe and some parts of the world.[citation needed] Another non-biodegradable compound...

...Financial Statement Financial Statement Among the well-respected profession Accounting is at its utmost significance, to name a few, people like Phil Knight, who founded the world renowned brand Nike, to the Co-Founder of the country’s largest home make-over retailer, Home Depot, and even a former acting-director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation Thomas Pickard are just a few well-known individuals who engaged themselves in the business of Accounting. The history of Accounting dates-back several hundred years ago, “Accountants participated in the development of cities, trade, and the concepts of wealth and numbers. Accountants invented writing, participated in the development of money and banking, invented double entry bookkeeping that fueled the Italian Renaissance, saved many Industrial Revolution inventors and entrepreneurs from bankruptcy, helped develop the confidence in capital markets necessary for western capitalism, and are central to the information revolution that is transforming the global economy.” (G.Giroux) In an individual’s point-of-view Accounting is managing an account in all forms, money mostly; learning how to balance the check book is a common terminology for most ordinary people. Accounting can have a positive effect and can be beneficial to a business, even personally, but in business, Accounting can help identify and minimize shrinkage in profit, and also maximize profit-growth. Personal level of Accounting can also help an...

...The Who Before enrolling in American Popular Music, I had decent background on a fair amount of bands and artists we have talked about in class, including, but not limited to, Eric Clapton, The Beatles, and The Eagles. These artists are some of my Dad’s favorite, so therefore I learned a lot about them from him; however, he has never been a fan of The Who. Therefore, I was rather excited when I was assigned a research paper on The Who; a band who I really knew nothing about before American Popular Music. In the following paper, I will provide details about The Who’s individual band members’ lives, as well as information in relation to the band in general. The Who had four main members: Pete Townshend, Roger Daltrey, John Entwistle, and Keith Moon. In addition to being the band’s guitarist, Pete Townshend took on the roll as the primary song writer. The most interesting fact I found about Townshend, is that he owns his own book publishing company. He actually published a book of his own called “Horse’s Neck” which consisted of a variety of short stories. Townshend has maintained a musical interest throughout his life, even after The Who broke up in 1983 (The Who Official Band Website). Roger Daltrey has always been a passionate musician; to the point where he even designed many of the bands guitars (The Who Official Band Website). Recently, Daltrey’s passion for music resurfaced. According to Mayer Nissim, a reporter for Digital Spy, “Roger Daltrey has confirmed that he...

...Raspberry’s make a great jam and is a well known favorite in the Alaskan household. In Alaska the season for Raspberries is in the month of August. The quality of the berry is important for a successful jam making session. Domesticated raspberries, as opposed to the wild raspberry are by far the best choice available. They are considerably larger, juicier, and have a good amount acidity and pectin. Pectin is a jelling substance found naturally in a large variety of fruits. Raspberries are found to be high in pectin, while strawberries, blackberries, and blueberries are low in pectin. Finding a decent patch of berries to harvest that has not been picked through can sometimes be a challenge. Walmart and Fred Meyers will have everything needed to make raspberry jam. For the food portion of the shopping list, the following are needed: • At least 6 cups of white granulated sugar • 1 cube of butter • CERTO brand fruit pectin in the pouch found in the food storage section. • If you missed the berry picking season, frozen red raspberries will suffice. You will need at least 2 quarts of uncrushed berries. For the cooking and hardware portion of the shopping trip, gather the items listed below: • 1- 6 to 8 quart Stainless Steel sauce pot. It is important to use only Stainless Steel, as other metals such as aluminum will produce a chemical reaction with the berries which results in a tinny taste. • 1 - Large Stainless Steel Spoon • 1 - Stainless Steel ladle • 9 - 8 ounce...

To decide who gets it, the captain puts all of the pirates (including himself) in a circle. Then he points at one person to begin. This person steps out of the circle, takes his gold and leaves. The person on his left stays in the circle, but the next person steps out. This continues with every second pirate leaving until there is only one left. Who should the captain point at if he wants to make sure he gets to keep the diamond for himself? What if there were 11 pirates? What if there were 12 pirates? What if there were 27 pirates? Etc. ...My Wife Daniel Shelly ENG121: English Composition I Anne Fowler February 18, 2013 My Wife Most individuals can count on one hand whenever it comes to naming someone who has significant meaning in their life. I am no stranger when it comes to this fact. I am not so easily amazed when it comes to meeting people, but the first time I laid eyes on my wife I was astonished. I knew something was special about her and I was right. Some of the significant wonders about my wife that are special to me are her beauty, her sweet pea fragrance, and her voice. I don’t intend to sound weird, but I can stare at my wife all day long. Her beauty is so mesmerizing. Her creamy, butterscotch skin tone is like no other I have ever seen. Her eyes are round. Gazing into them is like staring at a full moon on a clear night. She stands at five foot one. Although she is small in stature, her enormous heart is one to die for. Her distinctive smile remains to be her most unique feature. It might not be the most perfect smile, but no one can deny its beauty. She bares all her pearly whites as the corner of her lips stretch from cheek to cheek. Everyone is beautiful in their own way and she definitely has her style. I am not one to have a keen sense of smell, but I would recognize her fragrance anywhere. Her choice of perfume is sweet pea from Bath and Body Works. I’ve grown accustomed to this smell. I could be blindfolded and sniff her out like a beagle hot on the trail of a rabbit. That fragrance...

...Psychology 110 Applications Assignment Sensation, Personality, Relationships Matthew Rodriguez 10/5/2014 Following essay will cover various aspects of Sensation, personality and relationship as it pertains. After consulting the figure and information on Sensation Seeking (Saundra K. Ciccarelli, J. Noland White, C. 2011 pp.278) I would consider myself to be a Sensation Seeker. Since a Sensation Seeker is someone who needs more arousal than the average person (Saundra K. Ciccarelli, J. Noland White, C. 2011 pp.277) and that arousal is not limited to something of high intensity or danger, I do find great arousal in many other things in my life and seek to repeat them as often as possible. I like to eat, and find myself eating for pleasure rather than nurture. I know things in my pantry are delicious or the leftovers from my wife’s home cooking are especially delicious, I like to eat them because I know they are good. I also get a great deal of good sensation from making my wife happy, and I always go out of my way to do what she wants because I like the feeling of seeing her happy. The advantages here are good for my wife, food is not being wasted and she is getting her way more often than not, it is bad for me because that need to please has come in the way of me completing other important tasks. Eating for pleasure has proved to be bad at times; I have put weight on in the past and not felt good about myself. The inner feeling I get from eating...

...Harlee Dean Talksport Interview Transcript- Interviewer: It’s been a strange season in many ways, you started off poorly but now you find yourselves two points off the top six Harlee Dean: Yeah, I think a lot has been said about Marinus and that he was the reason for the poor start and this that and the other but I think anybody that had come in with so much change and um things being so different from the way they were and so many new players coming in and players leaving it was a struggle for anybody. Then obviously Marinus left and Lee came in who had been there last year and knew what we was about and just reverted us back to that really he got us energised got us pressing higher and got us all motivated (.) his team selections were half the core of the team last season so the team felt together again it’s been tough for the foreign boys because the championship is a hard league frankly physical, games every week and it probably wasn’t what they’re used too and they were probably chucked in the middle of the deep end at the beginning of the season, Lee kept all the big boys that had been there and done it and put the foreign boys in as substitutes and stuff like that and we just got better and better and I think that’s half the reason we’re pushing back up {talk about Brighton, Reading and Christmas demands, sacrifices etc} Interviewer: So what is your contract situation at the moment? Is it the end of the season you’re contracted too? Harlee Dean: Yeah (.) my...

Who cares about goodwill impairment? | 1 TIME TO ENGAGE On 30 January 2014, the IASB launched the public phase of its post-implementation review of business combinations accounting when it released a Request for Information.1 We believe that a key aspect of the review is the impairment-only accounting model for goodwill, which was introduced in 2004. Comments are due to the IASB by 30 May 2014, so now is the time for all stakeholders to provide their feedback on this emotive topic. The Request for Information essentially asks three questions in relation to goodwill impairment testing. • How useful have you found the information obtained from annually assessing goodwill for impairment? • Do you think that improvements are needed regarding the information provided by the impairment test? • What are the main implementation, auditing or enforcement challenges...

...at Harrison Medical Center, as I was working with my nurse, a rapid response code was activated in the room of one of my patients. The rapid response was for my patient’s roommate who was admitted earlier with chest pain. The rapid response was activated because the patient was experiencing chest pains that were not resolved with multiple unsuccessful treatments of sublingual nitroglycerin tablets. Every available member of the unit and the charge nurse showed up at the patient’s room. A doctor that was on the floor at the time, respiratory therapy, pharmacy, nurses available, charge nurse, case worker, and the CNA. The charge nurse was very organized in delegating tasks to everyone. As I was sitting against the wall, I was able to see that the patient was in so much pain that his eyes were bulging out. His body was stiff and he was holding his hands as a fist. The respiratory therapist was monitoring the patient’s oxygen levels and had the patient on 5L of oxygen via nasal cannula. The doctor ordered Morphine and Nitroglycerin in an IV format. The pharmacist immediately went to get the medications. The charge nurse made the decision to get IV access started and delegated to the CNA to get an EKG on the patient to assimilate information and analyze data to make clinical judgment on the care and needs of the patient. At that moment the patient’s doctor came in and consulted with the first doctor on the scene and began reading the EKG results. The patient’s doctor said...

...administrative assistant cannot tolerate onions under pregnancy and acquires most of her knowledge about life and what to do, from women’s magazines. I also believe that she has a self-esteem problem in relation to her older sister who “has everything”. The narrator presents herself as a passive woman and is rather insecure about herself. She lets men, unborn or grown-up, control every aspect of her life. And last but not least she has an irregular heartbeat, and a malfunctioning reproductive system. She is fascinated by her boss and maybe as ‘all women’ by his power and high position; “...I do my work on his office computer just to touch the cashmere coat he leaves hanging...” Dr. James Soleander is the archetypical ‘Businessman who cheats on his perfect wife with co-worker’. We know him from novels and TV-shows like “Bridget Jones’sDiary”. He is well-dressed, wears cashmere sweaters and nice shoes, is wealthy, powerful, and in the end not interested in a serious relationship. He is also a married man and a heart doctor. According to our narrator he forgets many things, enjoys onions, as the narrator before her pregnancy, and is attracted to her irregular heartbeat. I perceive him as arrogant, selfish and insensitive because he has a good job and a beautiful wife who cares about him, and on whom he cheats. All through the story the heart plays a huge role. Her irregular heart might symbolize her unstable love life and instability in her life in general. Dr. James Soleander understands the...

...goes the act used every single piece that was available to use. With the new act in place people felt that there constitutional rights were being taken away and no one can take away American's constitutional rights. Ethically the government was filming and recording people without their consent and people were and still are feeling invaded. The use of this technology was to help America stop terrorists and yet just this year 2013 a terrorist act happened in Boston, a heavily filled area with technology and the government got the whole incident on tape and still was not fast enough or aware enough to stop it. The Patriot Act is still holding ethical issues with citizens and there freedom and privacy being taken. I know a lot of people who feel in between with the issue and I am one of them. I do like the fact that if I get into an accident in a city, there is probably a camera somewhere close that caught the entire thing on tape. On the other hand I do not like the feeling of big brother watching my every move and it gives me the feeling that I am being followed or being watched, it is a very unsettling. The Act has also allowed the Government to access phone calls and records whenever they need them and your information and privacy is no longer active if the government wants it. I am starting to feel that the...
