Period 6 #4 Colonial John Fremont John C Fremont was an explorer who had made many expeditions to the west before the Mexican American war. He was doing this to see if there was room for expansion.. he was second lieutenant in the corpse of topographical engineers and then he lead for major expeditions west to survey the land with these men.He also lead to California battalion during the Mexican American war. During this time as the captain of the battalion of California he captured Santa Barbara, Presidio, and parts of Los Angeles. The war in California mostly ended when Fremont signed the Treaty of Cahuenga. The force of John C Fremont was marked as bandits by other generals. For
