Mont Blanc and the surrounding region are described with emphasis on the aural, visual, and tactile. The descriptions using these three senses as reference can place the reader in the shoes of Victor and offer a deeper level of immersion.
Approaching the mountian range on the horse drawn carriage Victor observes the Arve, the river that they will follow to it's source. On his first day of the three day pilgrimage he already is astonished by the size of the mountians. He focuses on the mouth of the river that he will follow to its source many miles away. Already he shows reverence for the mountians that surround him. He pays close attention to the beauty of the mountians and comes to the conclussion that they are constructs of the creator.…show more content… The first thing noted is the ruins of past civilizations. There are castles at the peek of hills that could not withstand the passing of time. There are cottages seen “peeping” through the evergreens: Nature is reclaiming the villages as well. The one thing that is noted to survive the trail of time is the mountians themselves. They stand strong even if the constructs of man are destroyed. This helps shows the thoughts in Victor's head and the importance of his work. All of the constructs of man are mortal, even the mightest stronghold crumbles against the forces of nature given enough time. The goal of Victor's work was to change this. He wished to create an immortal race of beings that could survive as well as the mountians. This knowledge he believed would help better the
