Who Is the Greatest Basketball Player Of All Time?
Michael Jordan vs. Lebron James; Air Jordan vs. King James; The Chosen One vs. His Airness. Who is the greatest basketball player of all time? Both are huge figures in not only within the game of basketball, but in the entire world of sports. Jordan has always been coveted as the best basketball player but the comparisons between him and James have escalated in recent years due to James’ dominance in all facets of the game, his first NBA championship title, and his three MVPs in his first 9 years in the NBA. However, I believe that Michael Jordan beats out LeBron James for the title of greatest basketball player of all-time because of his complete dominance of the game, and six NBA Championships. Dominance of the Game
Michael Jordan’s dominated the game of basketball with his outstanding jump shot, great handles, hard work mentality, and his will to win. He dominated in every aspect of the game. He could shoot from anywhere on the court, his pull up jump shot was impossible to stop when he was rhythm. An example of this would be where in one game he scored an eye-popping 69 points with a field goal percentage of 62.2%. He handled the ball like a true point guard, dishing out assists whenever the opportunity arose. His 5.3 assists are an example of his excellent handles and ability to get the ball to his teammates. Jordan was one of the most exciting players to watch, his sick moves and nasty dunks were jaw-dropping. He would try to jam on anyone, anytime, anywhere. He was also a very smart player who rarely ever turned the ball over. His 2.6 career turnovers a game is impressive considering he had the ball in his hands a substantial amount of time He worked as hard as any player that I had ever seen. His intensity struck fear in the minds of his opponents.

...relatively small space. Naismith invented the game of basketball. The first game was played with a soccer ball and two peach baskets used as baskets. The problem with this was every time one of the teams scored the ball was stuck in the basket, so eventually they cut the bottom of the baskets so the ball would go through. After becoming more popular basketball was played as a professional level. Different leagues were created such as the Basketball Association of America (BAA), National Basketball League (NBL), American Basketball Association (ABA), and the most recent, the National Basketball Association (NBA). Many critics and fans around the world call the NBA the greatest show on earth. No other league around the world brings what the NBA’s game has brought every season to its spectators. The greatest plays, games, dunks, players, and great passion for basketball, are reasons why the fans keep watching. Fans of other sports associations such as the Federation of International Basketball Association may not notice any changes at all, but the NBA’s style of playing has changed dramatically through the years. NBA basketball has usually kept its popularity with great stylish plays by the players in the league. The changes occurred when players such as Michael Jordan, Larry Bird, and Magic Johnson changed the game during the 1980′s to a guard domination style (in the past the center position had the ball for a longer period of time). Magic and Bird excited the crowds with their new...

A Successful Basketball Player

...high-level basketball tournament in the world and its National Basketball Association (NBA) is a grand stage that collects the most competitive, skilled and professional basketball players from all over the world. Almost every basketball player has set his dream of being a player in the NBA since he started playing basketball. Obviously, getting into the NBA is difficult but it will be more difficult later, because every basketball player in NBA is approximately the best in their habitations such as schools, towns, cities, or countries. They went through numbers of eliminations, and finally defeated their competitors to join the NBA. As an old saying goes “survival of the fittest.” A successful NBA player has to do his best in every game in order to stand out from other players who are as strong as he does or even stronger, and then success is near at hand. Yao Ming is a retired Chinese professional basketball player who last played for the Houston Rockets of the NBA. Although a summary of his basketball career and influence on the game inevitably fails to do it justice, as a phenomenal basketball player with a unique combination of fundamental diligence, optimism, agility, and an unquenchable competitive determination, Yao redefined the successful international NBA superstar. As the contemporary adversary of Yao, also the legendary NBA player- Shaquille O’Neal said Yao “could have been up there in the top five centers to ever play the game.” Also, the current greatest shooting...

He is ranked third in the NBA all-time scoring list, just one ahead of Michael Jordan. Kobe has won five NBA championships with the Los Angeles Lakers and he is also the only player to play for the same team for twenty years. After reading, ¨Kobe¨ by Joe Layden, I learned a lot more about Kobe Bryant than I ever knew before. I personally like Kobe very much, but there are people out there who do not care for him. I can admit he is a ball hogger, one of the worst, but that doesn't describe him all around. Not everything about Kobe is the greatest, but then again no one is perfect. He was just a boy born in...

...James-Micheal Jordan debate is on that's been going on for years. People that are huge sports fanatics and love the game of basketball can argue about this topic for hours and would not be able to come to a conclusion. One thing is for sure though. Lebron James is still active in the NBA and his career has not ended so we really don't know who's better until he retires. In sports it is natural to let our minds wonder, “ who was the greatest?” and “ will so- and - so surpass so-and-so? This entire Lebron James could be the Greatest of All Time “argument” is growing tiresome. First he's still completing his body of work. Secondly he's only won two NBA championships, the traditional measuring stick of all the NBA’s greatest players, and lastly they are two completely different players. Jordan is Jordan and Lebron is Lebron. I completely agree with this article. Maybe if Lebron James played before Michael Jordan this would be a different story, but the fact of the matter is he didn't. Lebron James is 30 years old and still has many years in the National Basketball Association. Hes going to definitely keep putting up big numbers. Hes going to make his case stronger and this debate stronger. But for now you just can't compare Lebron James to Michael Jordan. It's not fair to him. Secondly he only has two championship rings. In the nba the greatest players are ranked by their championships. Michael Jordan won six of them. A remarkable feat. He even took a year off then came back...

Nature or Nature

...instance, NBA great Reggie Miller of the Indiana Pacers is an un-athletic, skinny person who overcame leg deformities as a child that prevented him from walking. He had to wear leg braces for several years until his leg problems were corrected enough for him to start walking again. Eventually, Miller went on to play in the NBA for 13 seasons, while setting the record for most 3-point shots made (Beyond the Glory: Reggie Miller 2004). Therefore, in my opinion, Miller was not a “born” athlete. I feel that he worked hard to develop his skill, and make it into the NBA. On the other hand, many people believe that genetics make up good athletes. They believe that people are born with the ability to become a great athlete. For instance, people believe that Reggie Miller was born with genes that would make him a good basketball player since he was born with potential to grow tall. Miller is now 6’6, and almost every great basketball player surpasses the height of 6’4. Therefore, being tall gives you an advantage in basketball, because you are indeed, closer to the basket. Critics of the theory that athletes are developed will often ask “if Reggie was 5’6, would he have made it into the NBA?” They will tell you he never would have made it. Critics would also tell you that Miller has an older sister, Cheryl, who is one of the greatest players of all time in the WNBA (Women’s National Basketball Association). Therefore,...
