zester, one wooden spoon and my thermometer. Before putting my equipment into my rolled chef bag, I make sure my knives are sharp. I know my knives are sharp when my knife is able to cut through my arm hair like a new razor. I leave my house by 1:45 pm to arrive to the event by 3pm. I usually arrive to the event 20 minutes earlier to park my car and entire the event. Once I arrive at the parking structure the valet person checks my ID card to validate my parking. I then cross the street from the parking structure where the event is held and go through a security check. After the security check, I walk up a small steep hill to check in at the volunteer booth. I am then given a name badge and a raffle ticket to be entered into next years California Winemaster event for free. Once I’m checked into the event I’m given an assignment. Since working the event for the last five years I’m always given the same assignment equipment check. I am given a list of equipment that should be at the tables of the different restaurants that were requested by the chef. I then take a small group of volunteers to come along with me to grab the equipment if any is missing from the table and check it off the list. I also have the volunteers walk around to make sure that every table has plates, napkins, and forks for the chefs to plate their food on. Once I’m done with this assignment usually chefs start arriving and we volunteers are assigned to chef to help the chefs prep, cook or heating up their food and start plating. One year I worked with a chef from Napa Valley that worked at a restaurant called Mustard Grill. We were serving something they didn’t serve at their restaurant. It was Kobe beef slider with baby arugula and au jus. Kobe beef is the best kind of beef and most expensive beef available. This beef has a heavy fat marblings that make it so tender. The Kobe beef was cooked in its own juice and beef stock also known as au jus it was then sliced thinly and put back into the au jus. I then sliced the mini bread rolls and put the Kobe beef on the roll with au jus and some arugula to make slider.
Then I plated it with crème fraiche horseradish sauce on the side. I had the experience to try one of these sliders and they just melt in your mouth like butter. It was so tender and flavorful I wanted more. California Winemaster is one of my favorite events to volunteer for because I started volunteering for this event in 2009 when I was attending culinary school. This is a memorable time for me because I also get to catch up with old friend from culinary school when attending this event. It’s also become a new way to find new friends and develop myself at the same time, but there is much more to it than that. When taking time away from a day in your life to finding a break from one’s life which may have become unusual. Volunteering provides an opportunity to not only help others who need the help, but promotes positive growth in the community and gives way to being able to pay it forward or pay back a positive aspect of one’s own life.

...Harlee Dean Talksport Interview Transcript- Interviewer: It’s been a strange season in many ways, you started off poorly but now you find yourselves two points off the top six Harlee Dean: Yeah, I think a lot has been said about Marinus and that he was the reason for the poor start and this that and the other but I think anybody that had come in with so much change and um things being so different from the way they were and so many new players coming in and players leaving it was a struggle for anybody. Then obviously Marinus left and Lee came in who had been there last year and knew what we was about and just reverted us back to that really he got us energised got us pressing higher and got us all motivated (.) his team selections were half the core of the team last season so the team felt together again it’s been tough for the foreign boys because the championship is a hard league frankly physical, games every week and it probably wasn’t what they’re used too and they were probably chucked in the middle of the deep end at the beginning of the season, Lee kept all the big boys that had been there and done it and put the foreign boys in as substitutes and stuff like that and we just got better and better and I think that’s half the reason we’re pushing back up {talk about Brighton, Reading and Christmas demands, sacrifices etc} Interviewer: So what is your contract situation at the moment? Is it the end of the season you’re contracted too? Harlee Dean: Yeah (.) my...

...I am writing this in efforts to appeal my academic probation. When I first started at Kaplan I was unsure about the policy and procedures. I was under the impression that as long as we viewed the seminar it would be alright I was confused to the fact you have to attend it when it is live or complete option 2 later in the block I figured out why I was receiving zeros so I went back and did option two for about 6 of the weeks. I turned them in the last day of school and my professor informed me that it should have been turned in sooner and I was unable to receive credit. I currently hold a 1.85 GPA. It is very important to me that I receive a degree. I have two children to support and hopefully one day I will be able to provide for my mother seeing how I am in the position I will be “sandwiched” by raising children and caring for my mother. Psychology has always been my passion since I was very young. I always read books growing up covering mentally ill patients and what kind of therapy was given. I want to help my community with my degree I plan to work with veterans. In this current term I have 90’s in both classes I have almost attended every live seminar< I’ve missed two and I did complete option 2. Since the seminars were my downfall from the last term I made it a goal and strategy not to miss one from this term and I have done pretty well. I am thinking my GPA will come up dramatically in this term but just in case I wanted to turn in this letter, Thank you for your...

...Background: Progressives tend to advocate a relatively social democratic agenda. Unifying issues among progressive Democrats include opposition to the War in Iraq, opposition to economic liberalism and social conservatism, opposition to all corporate influence in government, support for universal health care or single-payer health care, revitalization of the national infrastructure and steering the Democratic Party in the direction of being a more forceful party. Compared to other factions of the party, they've been most critical of the Republican Party, and most supportive of direct democracy. The Congressional Progressive Caucus (CPC) is a caucus of progressive Democrats, along with one independent, in the U.S. Congress. It is the single largest Democratic caucus in the House of Representatives. Its members have included Congressmen Dennis Kucinich, Alan Grayson, John Conyers (MI), Barbara Lee (CA), Jim McDermott (WA), John Lewis (GA); as well as Senators Paul Wellstone (MN), Elizabeth Warren (MA), Sherrod Brown (OH), and Bernie Sanders (VT). Many progressive Democrats are ideological descendants of the New Left of Democratic Presidential candidate/Senator George McGovern of South Dakota; others were involved in the presidential candidacies of Vermont Governor Howard Dean and U.S. Rep. ...We are living in a time where the sketched epistemes of political rationality for which ‘life’ is the organizing object of politics (i.e., biopolitics) is being challenged. During the 1970s and beginning of 1980s theorists such as Foucault argued that the sovereign right to kill was increasingly displaced by the administrative compulsion to make live. That is, instead of ending violence or killing especially in the context of Europe and North America lethal conflict was redistributed through out the population turning politics into war by other means such as the withdrawal of the state from the household (i.e., oikos) and national life and hence with a more focus on biopolitics. In the Global South though theorists like Mbembe challenge Foucauldian biopolitics to argue that outside Europe and North America this governing of life (zoe) took a different form: necropolitics resulting from the histories of power relations such as slavery and colonization. Yet, theorists in the Global North such as Foucault insisted that the 1970s the life of power mutated increasing the neoliberal turn in government leaving our times and more concretely “the future as yet unthought.” This class begins with Foucault’s concept of biopolitics and Mbembe’s idea of necropolitics and asks: what are the stakes in thinking and practicing power today through the locus of biopolitics and/or necropolitics? What are the stakes in reading these tensions with respect to yesterday—and to tomorrow for the art...

...The Curriculum and approaches to Teaching and Learning A discussion regarding the curriculum, sequencing and deep learning. Most school curricula provide a good curricular menu for our students. Each faculty organises and delivers curricula which meet the legal requirements and prepare students for examinations at the appropriate age related stages. Students in effective schools generally make good progress as can be seen examination results and their places in the league tables. Each faculty has its own house in order and take care of their own curriculum and delivery. It is a well tested formula for success and the accountability, and quality assurance processes ensure each faculty is monitored well and supported. So why change? What is the motivation? What is missing that can be brought in by making changes? The answer lies in what we are trying to achieve and whether things are working well or just ticking over. Curriculum Theory (The following extracts regarding curriculum theory can be found at: http://www.infed.org/biblio/b-curric.htm) The idea of a ‘curriculum’ is hardly new - but the way we understand and theorize it has altered over the years - and there remains considerable dispute as to its purpose, meaning and implementation. In Latin currere means "to run, to gallop" or "to hurry, to hasten, to speed" or"to move, to travel, to proceed". A useful point for us to engage with the purpose and process of curriculum design, might be the definition offered...

...ANOTATED BIBLIOGRAPHY Kevin Taylor Souther New Hampshire University Scorsese, M. (Director). Dicaprio, L. (Actor). (2010). Shutter Island [Motion picture]. Paramount Pictures. This source provides an in depth text about the storyline as a whole. I like this source because there was some parts of the movie that was unclear. I think this movie requires attention to detail because it seems like you are inside the mind of a delusional patient at times (which is technically true). After researching the film I notice that there was a few people confused about the ending. Most people was confused about whether or not Teddy Daniels was actually insane. I personally have come to the conclusion that he was insane thanks to this reference. Shutter Island (2010, February 19). The Internet Movie Database (IMDB). Retrieved April 14, 2010, from http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1130884/ I found a interview on this site where Leonardo DiCaprio gives his opinion on the character he played (Teddy Daniels). I think this could be useful because he has to research his character and be able to understand the person he is playing. ...Kris Theus COMM 215 8 Sept 2014 Karen Lawler Job Discrimination among minorities in the US Many establishments today pride themselves on welcoming all communities, cultures and backgrounds to their businesses as a way of showing non- discrimination or prejudice to customers and potential workers. However, we see instances of discrimination on the news amongst our minority celebrities who have been mistreated on the account of the color of their skin. For example, Oprah Winfrey well known African American TV mogul reported to entertainment tonight that she was discriminated against just last year when she tried to buy an expensive purse at a store and was denied by the teller who stated that the purse was too expensive and that she should choose another less expensive purse. Also, in 1994, the well-known restaurant chain, Denny’s, were sued in race bias suits for 54 million dollars to customers that were discriminated against while dining at their restaurant. Some customers complained that they were made to pay higher prices for food than white customers and in some cases minority customers were treated rudely. The same discrimination can be seen in the workplace today and could be the reason for high unemployment in the US among young minorities. The unemployment rate among young minorities in the US is higher than those of white Americans. As you walk into establishments from as early as the 1960’s to the post Great Recession more white employees than minority...

I Know Who You Are

...For several years the European Union, the largest regional trading bloc in the world, has been trying to liberalize its energy market, replacing the markets of its 27 member states with a single continentwide market for electricity and gas. The first phase of liberalization went into effect in June 2007. When fully implemented, the ability of energy producers to sell electricity and gas across national borders will increase competition. The road toward the creation of a single EU energy market, however, has been anything but easy. Many national markets are dominated by a single enterprise, often a former state-owned utility. Electricitie de France, for example, has an 87 percent share of that country’s electricity market. Injecting competition into such concentrated markets will prove difficult. To complicate matters, most of these utilities are vertically integrated, producing, transmitting, and selling power. These vertically integrated producers have little interest in letter other utilities use their transmission grids to sell power to end users, or in buying power from other producers. For the full benefits of competition to take hold, the EU recognizes that utilities need to be split into generation, transmission, and marketing companies so that the business of selling energy can be separated from the business of producing it and transmitting it. Only then, so the thinking goes, will independent power marketing companies be able to buy energy from the cheapest source, whether...

Sensation, Personality, Relationships

...Psychology 110 Applications Assignment Sensation, Personality, Relationships Matthew Rodriguez 10/5/2014 Following essay will cover various aspects of Sensation, personality and relationship as it pertains.   After consulting the figure and information on Sensation Seeking (Saundra K. Ciccarelli, J. Noland White, C. 2011 pp.278) I would consider myself to be a Sensation Seeker. Since a Sensation Seeker is someone who needs more arousal than the average person (Saundra K. Ciccarelli, J. Noland White, C. 2011 pp.277) and that arousal is not limited to something of high intensity or danger, I do find great arousal in many other things in my life and seek to repeat them as often as possible. I like to eat, and find myself eating for pleasure rather than nurture. I know things in my pantry are delicious or the leftovers from my wife’s home cooking are especially delicious, I like to eat them because I know they are good. I also get a great deal of good sensation from making my wife happy, and I always go out of my way to do what she wants because I like the feeling of seeing her happy. The advantages here are good for my wife, food is not being wasted and she is getting her way more often than not, it is bad for me because that need to please has come in the way of me completing other important tasks. Eating for pleasure has proved to be bad at times; I have put weight on in the past and not felt good about myself. The inner feeling I get from eating...

The Who

...The Who Before enrolling in American Popular Music, I had decent background on a fair amount of bands and artists we have talked about in class, including, but not limited to, Eric Clapton, The Beatles, and The Eagles. These artists are some of my Dad’s favorite, so therefore I learned a lot about them from him; however, he has never been a fan of The Who. Therefore, I was rather excited when I was assigned a research paper on The Who; a band who I really knew nothing about before American Popular Music. In the following paper, I will provide details about The Who’s individual band members’ lives, as well as information in relation to the band in general. The Who had four main members: Pete Townshend, Roger Daltrey, John Entwistle, and Keith Moon. In addition to being the band’s guitarist, Pete Townshend took on the roll as the primary song writer. The most interesting fact I found about Townshend, is that he owns his own book publishing company. He actually published a book of his own called “Horse’s Neck” which consisted of a variety of short stories. Townshend has maintained a musical interest throughout his life, even after The Who broke up in 1983 (The Who Official Band Website). Roger Daltrey has always been a passionate musician; to the point where he even designed many of the bands guitars (The Who Official Band Website). Recently, Daltrey’s passion for music resurfaced. According to Mayer Nissim, a reporter for Digital Spy, “Roger Daltrey has confirmed that he...

Raspberry Jam Recipe

...Raspberry’s make a great jam and is a well known favorite in the Alaskan household. In Alaska the season for Raspberries is in the month of August. The quality of the berry is important for a successful jam making session. Domesticated raspberries, as opposed to the wild raspberry are by far the best choice available. They are considerably larger, juicier, and have a good amount acidity and pectin. Pectin is a jelling substance found naturally in a large variety of fruits. Raspberries are found to be high in pectin, while strawberries, blackberries, and blueberries are low in pectin. Finding a decent patch of berries to harvest that has not been picked through can sometimes be a challenge. Walmart and Fred Meyers will have everything needed to make raspberry jam. For the food portion of the shopping list, the following are needed: • At least 6 cups of white granulated sugar • 1 cube of butter • CERTO brand fruit pectin in the pouch found in the food storage section. • If you missed the berry picking season, frozen red raspberries will suffice. You will need at least 2 quarts of uncrushed berries. For the cooking and hardware portion of the shopping trip, gather the items listed below: • 1- 6 to 8 quart Stainless Steel sauce pot. It is important to use only Stainless Steel, as other metals such as aluminum will produce a chemical reaction with the berries which results in a tinny taste. • 1 - Large Stainless Steel Spoon • 1 - Stainless Steel ladle • 9 - 8 ounce...

My Wife

...My Wife Daniel Shelly ENG121: English Composition I Anne Fowler February 18, 2013 My Wife Most individuals can count on one hand whenever it comes to naming someone who has significant meaning in their life. I am no stranger when it comes to this fact. I am not so easily amazed when it comes to meeting people, but the first time I laid eyes on my wife I was astonished. I knew something was special about her and I was right. Some of the significant wonders about my wife that are special to me are her beauty, her sweet pea fragrance, and her voice. I don’t intend to sound weird, but I can stare at my wife all day long. Her beauty is so mesmerizing. Her creamy, butterscotch skin tone is like no other I have ever seen. Her eyes are round. Gazing into them is like staring at a full moon on a clear night. She stands at five foot one. Although she is small in stature, her enormous heart is one to die for. Her distinctive smile remains to be her most unique feature. It might not be the most perfect smile, but no one can deny its beauty. She bares all her pearly whites as the corner of her lips stretch from cheek to cheek. Everyone is beautiful in their own way and she definitely has her style. I am not one to have a keen sense of smell, but I would recognize her fragrance anywhere. Her choice of perfume is sweet pea from Bath and Body Works. I’ve grown accustomed to this smell. I could be blindfolded and sniff her out like a beagle hot on the trail of a rabbit. That fragrance...
