Joseph Stalin showed characteristics of a totalitarian leader because he took advantage of his people and the resources of the country. Joseph Stalin had a secret police force, Created labor camps and, killed innocent people to protect his power.

Joseph Stalin took advantage of people and made a secret police force to spy on his people. The police force was called the NKVD. His secret police had informers everywhere . An informer could be anyone in Russia at the time even your best friend could be a informant. His spies would listen to people's conversations and made sure they were not plotting anything against him. Stalin used the secret police to create fear in his people. He wanted his people to live in fear so they would put up walls and not talk to people so there would be no chance of a revolution breaking out against his tyranny. I think this shows Stalin had totalitarian traits because he used a secret police force to constantly watch his people and keep them scared and uneasy. He also showed Totalitarian traits because he would do anything to protect his power. …show more content…
Stalin made labor camps and sent people there to be lumberjacks. The labor camps were in a snow desert and had terrible conditions it was freezing there and the people there were tortured. The laborers were forced to make there own cabin out of sticks and they were forced to sleep on bare boards. They also only received six ounces of bread and a day and hot gruel every 3 days. These laborers were forced to work long hours with little or no food and thousands of them die due to the conditions they were put under. I think the labor camps say alot about Stalin and showed that he did not care about the conditions they would be put under he he just wanted to use these people so he would have resources. I think this shows he was a totalitarian leader because he did not care about his

Joseph Stalin's Legacy

...Joseph Stalin is the epitome of a failure, both as a leader and as a human being. Throughout his reign over The Soviet Union he implemented many programs that directly led to the death of over 30 million of his people. Many debate about whether the Stalinization of the USSR were in good intentions, or if Joseph Stalin had ulterior motives (such as creating the Ukraine famine to oppress those seeking freedom from his rule). Regardless, many of his movements failed miserably while also destroying his own country and people. It is clear to see that despite any accomplishments that Stalin may have had, his legacy has been tarnished by his blatant disregard for human life. Stalinism, the set of policies put into place under Stalin’s rule, was based off of socialist and Marxist ideals. Animal Farm

...AP Literature The classic novel Animal Farm written by George Orwell unravels the story of a group of farm animals who craved freedom from humans. Many of the characters in Animal Farm relate to ideas and people involved in the Russian Revolution such as, Joseph Stalin, Karl Marx and the idea of communism. George Orwell tends to give animals on the farm characteristics of those who lead the Russian Revolution. The novel is simply a reflection of this time period with the twist of the people involved being portrayed as animals instead. George Orwell's novel Animal Farm is directly related to the Russian Revolution in several ways. In the novel Animal Farm, Mr. Jones treats his animals extremely poorly and fails to give them enough food to be healthy (Orwell 18). He is sometimes cruel in which he beats his animals with whips and on the other hand he is sometimes kind by mixing milk into the animals' mash. This relates to Czar Nicholas II of the Russian Revolution. He was a poor leader compared to his western kings and he was sometimes cruel and brutal with opponents, and other times he was kind and hired spies to make money (CITE). Old Major is also a character that can be compared, he taught animalism as Karl Marx had taught and invented communism. Major also spoke of how the animals did all the work while the humans kept all the money and for that reason the animals should revolt against mankind. Marx believed that the workers of the...

Orwell doesn’t criticize the act of revolution itself but the misery it could cause if the leaders go corrupt, shortsighted, and greedy. George Orwell’s Animal Farm demonstrates a symbolism of the Russian Revolution through features of Snowball and the historical figure of Trotsky.
