Why Did Cortez Conquer Mexico

Conquistador Hernan Cortez landed with his men in Mexico in 1519. He was born to a poor family from Spain, moreover, he was trained by his father to swordplay and horseback riding. He went to school to study law and diplomacy and became very educated. Cortez became Capitan General at age 25 when Diego Velazquez de Cuellar, who conquered and governed Cuba behalf of Spain placing it for Spanish trade became his friend. The conquistadores landed in Mexico in 1517 they returned with slaves, treasure, stories of the barbarian people who scarifies humans. They landed again in Mexico for the third time Cortez mortgage everything he owned to finance the trip himself. His motivation was to conquer the Aztec Empire he believed it's wealthy with treasure, therefore he would become a king. The conquistadores clashed they hoped to be governor towards any land they found. Furthermore, they went against one another with no limits or boundary. …show more content…
The Aztec people never looked into Montezuma eyes out of respect. Cortez had the best weapons such as gun powered canons, crossbow, and members willing to proceed with the war. Cortez meets Mayan tribes who lead him to Aguillar who was captured in translation from Mayan to Spanish. Cortez brought his secret weapons the war dogs and horses to start a bloody battle in Potonchan. The Mayan warriors were frightened they fought until the war ended. The native people brought him food, gold, plenty of women this individual Dona Mariana who knew two languages. He knew she was able to translate between the two Azteca and Mayan people this made her valuable. At the age of four he left England for Mauritius, where his father was posted for a three-year tour of duty. At the age of ten he was sent to school for a year in Switzerland. These youthful travels may have opened his mind to the outside world at an early age. He entered the Royal Military Academy at Woolwich in September 1914, and was commissioned in the Royal Engineers in April 1915.
