Gold, intellect, and mystery describe only a tiny morsel of the Incan civilization. The Incas are a civilization that got wiped off the face of the earth and became an enigma. Because I am fascinated by the Incas, I wish they had never disappeared, but then they would be put next to the other ancient civilizations that grew in the 1800’s. How did the Incas come about, what is their history, and most importantly, how did they disappear? Realistically looking back at their circumstances, any human being would have used all their mind-strength to come up with a way to receive food and water-the basic building blocks of life-in-order to survive. The Incan people were not trying to become some of the smartest people to inhabit our earth; they were just trying to survive. The Incas built their empire without the wheel which we now associate with the “wheel of life” because it is used so often throughout history. They built their immaculate homes and cities without the use of any heavy draft animal, iron work, or currency. To make living even more difficult and mysterious, the Inca people did not have a set language throughout their entire empire. The Incas used a hybrid language called Quechua which was a language that resembled a mixture or “slang” of all the colonies combine. With no wheel, iron work or language, the Incas somehow communicated without a written language; they communicated with a series of knots on a twisted cord to send messages across the colonies by runner.
