...There are three main types of serial killers: medical killer, organized killer, and disorganized killer. The medical killer is rare and unlikely to happen, "there have been some people who have become involved in the medical industry as a way to carry out their nefarious deeds” (Types of Serial Killers). They are highly intelligent, and there are doctors that have done it for years before they got caught. The organized killer are usually stalkers as well, and they try to plan out the murder very carefully and not to leave any evidence behind. The disorganized killer usually don’t plan out their murders, and they usually have a very low IQ. The victims are usually in the wrong place wrong time, and they don’t attempt to clean up and not leave...

...LAT1 - Serial Killers Abstract This paper that was written explores how a person is born innocent, and evolves into a monstrous and calculated serial killer. It will mention several different specific serial killers and their histories to support the facts. Another area that is explored is the difference between mass murderers and serial killers. Many times theses terms are used simultaneously; however the fact is that they are different. Reviewing the classifications, behaviors, motives, childhood neglect, sanity, and how profiling and other methods will assist in catching a serial killer. Understanding and studying serial killers can help in preventing them to start killing, or in catching them before they continue killing. Research shows that the problem of serial killing can be addressed by understanding its causes, identifying common behaviors and motivations of serial killers, and using this information to develop tools for law enforcement to prevent initial or repeated killings If a person commits a murder, it doesn’t constitute to be tagged a serial killing. I will be including material in order to define what serial killer is, and why we are so obsessed with understanding them. To fully discuss and understand serial killers, we must first distinguish the differences between them and mass murderers. The term mass murderer is often used interchangeably; however, the two terms are technically different. Mass murder occurs when a large number of people...

...Serial Killer Psychology By Anna Davis Criminal psychology refers to the study of the mental and behavioral characteristics of people who break laws established by local, state, national or international governments. Some criminal, or forensic, psychologists focus their research on serial killers -- men and women who murder a large number of people over an extended period of time — typically months or years. What constitutes a serial killer is open to interpretation. In the United States, Congress has defined a serial killer as someone who murders a minimum of three or more people. By definition, a cooling-off period separates the murders, making them appear random or unconnected. The victims — often prostitutes, runaways or other vulnerable populations — rarely know their killer and may serve as a symbol that triggers the attack. In other words, a serial killer's motive tends to be psychological, not material. Understanding what goes on — or gets turned off — in a serial killer's mind is the ultimate goal of scientists who specialize in this area of psychology. You might think the field is relatively new, but it dates back to at least the 19th century, when psychologists tried to develop a profile of the mysterious and elusive Jack the Ripper. Antisocial Personality Disorder vs. Psychopathy Mental health professionals use the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM), developed by the American Psychiatric Association, to understand the illnesses...

...Notorious serial killers such as Ted Bundy and Jeffery Dahmer strike fear into any normal person who is speaking of them. These two murderers stalked, tortured, and killed their victims which sent the United States into a frenzy. Sadistic people seeking pleasure in the pain of others had been known for centuries but who was the first serial murderer who started this phenomenon of gruesomeness. Herman Webster Mudgett better known as Doctor H. H. Holmes made Bundy and Dahmer’s killings look like child’s play, he also was America’s first documented serial killer. Unlike the men stated above Holmes lured his victims to his home nicknamed “Murder Castle” and performed an autopsy while they were still alive. Holmes also used the art of conning to...

...Andres Franco September 27th, 2010 Research Essay Can concussions affect brain function? The question whether concussions can affect brain function has been asked for years. Only recently medical researchers and scientists have found the answers to why concussions can affect the brain severely. Not only have they examined pro sport stars that have died due to concussions but also serial killers who have died or who are still in prison. Many pro football players suffer from concussions the most, since they do play head-on; the ones who have died from other natural deaths were examined. Some serial killers have also agreed to have their brain looked at for irregular brain function, and in both players and killers, there were either undeveloped frontal lobes or damaged frontal lobes. This was the answer they’ve been looking for not only to keep players safe that play pro sports, but to maybe save people from being a victim of homicide. Pro wrestler Chris Benoit suffered brain damage from his years in the ring and getting hit by metal chairs, rails, stairs, and even baseball bats. Maybe that could help explain why he killed his wife, son and also himself. A doctor who studied Benoit’s brain found out that his frontal lobe was damaged. Chris Benoit was a family man and everyone who knew him apart from wrestling, knew that that was most important to him. When he wasn’t wrestling he was with his family. In the ring he wasn’t so nice and his opponents weren’t either so they hit...

...termination of pregnancy. It is a surgical procedure, available in almost every country in the world, in which a fetus or embryo is removed from the uterus of a pregnant woman. According to an article made by the Herald-Journal, a U.S. newspaper based on Utah, 22% of all pregnancies around the world end in abortion. This means that every year millions of lives are destroyed before they even have the chance to breathe. These poor babies, who could have accomplished great things in their life – babies who are already alive – are killed deliberately by doctors. And everyday, more and more abortions occur as they are starting to be legalized in more countries. With that stated, I don’t agree with abortion and I definitely think it should be illegal in every country. As a teenager I’ve been warned and talked extensively about abortion by my parents, teachers, and relatives in general. Abortion is a very popular topic among adolescents. The reason why this is a very prominent issue among the people of my generation is because every day more and more teenage girls are getting pregnant. They don’t take sex seriously and are very irresponsible during intercourse. An internet article states that in the U.S. alone there are 820,000 teen pregnancies annually. This is very shocking because it means that 34% of all teenage girls in the States will end up pregnant before turning 20. Other alarming figures include that 8 out of 10 of these pregnancies are unintended and that 81% are to unmarried couples...

...romantic, but what if vampires aren’t actually mythical creatures? What if they are real, human like killers who have a taste for human blood? How can a human being make up something so vile, it almost seems like it somehow has to be based off of a real life situation, or maybe the imagination of early humans, due to boredom, led to the creation of this creature. Is this doomed to be a mystery forever? We may never know who came up with the first vampire story. What we do know is the “vampire tales originated in Eastern European and Balkan countries, such as Hungary, Romania, Greece, and Albania” (Crawford 2). People during the late 1600’s until the early 1800’s did not take vampire hunting as joke like people would today. They were actually very serious about it and vampire hunters were considered extremely important. One could not just become a vampire hunter but instead had to be born with a special gift, such as clairvoyance. Only males could be born with clairvoyance, which is basically a sixth sense and allows you to see vampires. Since only few were able to be vampire hunters they “commanded handsome fees of money, food, livestock, and goods” (Guiley 38). The demands of vampire hunters were always met, even by the rulers of countries, such as Charles VI. This ruler gave permission to dig up graves of the deceased to look for vampires. Charles VI also funded for doctors and scientists to go out and explore vampires in different regions of the world. Vampires are...

...The Villain Detective Alexander Morgan was disgusted by the sight he had to endure after receiving an urgent 911 call. Her name was Penny Breese and her face was slit buccal to buccal; her orbitals were cut out. Detective Morgan knew whose handy work this was judging by the small switchblade left hanging out of Penny’s coxal, but he still asked the medical examiner “What’s the word on this one?” The medical examiner, Sarah, explained that she was still alive through every cut, and the last cut, a transverse one to her cervical, was the one that killed her. “I’d say it’s your guy again, detective.” said Sarah. Detective Morgan’s hunch was right, it was him. The most unoriginal serial killer of all time was back, even his name was bland. The Villain is what he called himself. And, although he was unoriginal in his ways, he was still sly. The Villain based most of his crimes off of The Joker from Batman, but rather than leaving a playing card, he left a knife. The Villain has been estimated to have killed around fifty three people this year alone and has yet to be arrested. Shortly after leaving the scene, another 911 call was received by detective Morgan, this one was still alive. When he arrived on scene number two, there was a woman in the back of an ambulance who called herself “Sunshine.” No, she wasn’t a hippie. She was a prostitute. There was blood running from her nasal to her oral. It was also visible that superior to her abdominal but inferior to her sternal, she...

...multiple times back and forth. Throughout the entire movie, McCaleb faces multiple Deontological dilemmas but the biggest and most important of all of them is his decision to self-sacrifice for the good of others. He makes a selfless decision which could have very well cost him his life. We need to take under consideration that this time around, his life is a gift from a victim who was murdered and this time is possibly his last chance at life. When analyzing McCaleb, we must consider his living medical condition, potential terminal risks that come with receiving a heart transplant, and his personal struggle to fight rejection of his peers. Even though aware of all disadvantages involved in proceeding with his decision to pursue the killer, McCaleb acts out of duty towards other people disregarding all and any consequences. Kant believed that the real character of people is seen at times when their decisions are hanging in a fine line between different choices. For Kant, a person’s temperament and nature would prevail on the road taken. “It is just then that the worth of this character comes out, which is moral and incomparably the highest, namely, that he is beneficent not from inclination but from duty….”(Pg. 356 Groundwork of the Metaphysics of morals, Immanuel Kant) All throughout the movie, there are other multiple Deontological dilemmas that McCaleb encounters. McCaleb seems to take the Categorical Imperative route almost every time. In the beginning of the movie...

...years later, the New York legislature rejected a bill that was also aimed at the legalization of euthanasia in the United States. “In 1991 the Washington State Initiative Bill legalizing voluntary euthanasia was narrowly defeated.” (6) In 1994, Oregon passed a law to allow doctors to prescribe lethal drugs, but an injunction prevented it from taking effect. As of today, euthanasia is illegal in almost every country. In fact, it is only legal in the state of Oregon and the Netherlands. These are the only two places in the world where laws specifically permit euthanasia or assisted suicide. Oregon permits assisted suicide while the Netherlands permits both euthanasia and assisted suicide. In 1995, Australia’s northern territory approved a euthanasia bill which went into effect in 1996, but it was overturned by the Australian Parliament in 1997. “Also, in 1997, Columbia’s Supreme Court ruled that penalties for mercy killing should be removed.”(4) This ruling will not go into effect though until guidelines are approved by the Columbian Congress. In Belgium, lawmakers have agreed on the provisions of a key article in a draft proposal to legalize euthanasia. “The proposed bill would not only allow doctors to euthanasia terminally- ill patients, but...

...Anatomy of Violence Paper December 2013 The Anatomy of Violence is a non-fiction book, written by Adrian Raine, which investigates and presents facts to prove a neurocriminology hypothesis. Adrian Raine conducted experiments, researched and studied the biological roots of violence. He inaugurated neurocriminology, a newer field that incorporates neuroscience methods with the intention of examining the causes of violent criminal acts. Raine analyzes criminal minds. He pieces together research, data, and experiments of psychology, neurology, and criminology in order to inform the public of this new notion which sheds a new light on why people are or become violent criminals. This book was very interesting, well-explained, an easy read and the author incorporated many scientific examples to back up his theories. Adrian Raine takes us on a scientific expedition and exposes brain malfunction to be the cause of violent criminal acts. Raine’s theories are interesting and definitely bring forth many important questions however, while reading, I found some of his concepts are difficult to fully envision for logical reasons. A number of his concepts give an overreaching impression and are a bit too broad. While Raine brings up many valid points, I found myself asking important questions while reading Anatomy of Violence. Does this new research and belief give criminals a “Get out of jail free” card? While reading this book, I asked myself, Will this new theory allow...
