Josh whispered “hush, she still is young she is only 34”. Then grandma said, “Josh is ok, I’m not that young any more, but Annabel that is a good question”. Then she began to explain what is was like in her time as a kid. “The 21st century was, and still is full of crime, weird dance crazes, supposed racism, and weird Internet videos”. ...When most people hear the word “cheerleading,” they think of teenage girls walking around school in their uniforms, and doing cheers while walking down the halls, right? Well, normally, that’s only in movies. Thankfully, the group I myself take part in is a competitive, extreme, sport. Don’t think of it as just a ‘hobby’ truly, people dedicate their time and lives to this sport. Honestly, it all matters on which group of cheer you join. Cheerleading originally started in 1898 when a student decided to cheer on their team at a football game. A student with the name Johnny Campbell, gathered a group together to start yelling and cheering for their team. People often say cheerleading is ‘girly’. Believe it or not, after cheerleading became an official sport, this was a sport only men were allowed to participate in. It wasn’t until 1923 that women were allowed to take part in this sport. (Site Page) Why exactly is cheerleading not considered a sport? The Women's Sports Foundation makes it clear that “any physical activity in which relative performance can be judged or qualified can be developed into a competitive sport.” (site page) Cheerleading meets all the athletic specifications too. It must be a “...physical activity which involves propelling a mass through space or overcoming the resistance of mass. ‘Contesting’ or competing against/with an...

...Familiar Dance Paper: Tango Dance has been around for thousands of years. People have manipulated all types of dances in many ways. Most people choose a style of dance to dance to due to their liking. Learning a new type of dance form is not easy, especially when it comes to learning a whole new form that you’ve never been introduced to or at least don't have some connection to another similar type of dance to relate it to. Now imagine learning a new dance style that you’re not used to probably due to your religion, beliefs, tradition or any other reason. In most cases, if it’s too difficult and the person doesn't succeed in this area of dance, then the person would just give up and not give it a try again. A type of dance style that is unique and fun to dance to but extremely hard to learn is Tango. Tango originated from Argentina. Millions of European immigrants arrived in Argentina and settled this dance around the late 1800’s. These immigrants brought their music: the sweet sounds of the violin, the driving flamenco guitar and the Ward 2...

...first met till after their engagement he told her that it was at a dance to which some friends had brought him. She certainly paid no attention to him then and if she danced with him it was because she was good-natured and was glad to dance with any one who asked her. She didn't know him from Adam when a day or two later at another dance he came up and spoke to her. Then she she remarked that he was at every dance she went to. "You know, I've danced with you at least a dozen times now and you must tell me your name," she said to him at last in her laughing way. He was obviously taken aback. "Do you mean to say you don't know it? I was introduced to you." "Oh, but people always mumble. I shouldn't be at all surprised if you hadn't the ghost of an idea what mine was." He smiled at her. His face was grave and a trifle stern, but his smile was very sweet. "Of course I know it." He was silent for a moment or two. "Have you no curiosity?" he asked then. "As much as most women." "It didn't occur to you to ask somebody or other what my name was?" She was faintly amused; she wondered why he thought it could in the least interest her; but she liked to please, so she looked at him with that dazzling smile of hers and her beautiful eyes, dewy ponds under forest trees, held an enchanting kindness. "Well, what is it?" "Walter Fane." She did not know why he came to dances, he did not dance very well, and he seemed to know few people. She had a passing thought...

...up, but a couple of minutes later, the phone rang. It was Josh. It turned out he had caller ID. And of course he recognized my voice when I answered. "Zilky? Is that you?" he asked. "What are you doing at this number?" I could have died! After that, he traded the old nickname he had for me, "Zilky", and started calling me "Stalker". Not exactly the term of endearment. Anyway, like I said, I like Joshua a lot. But I've decided to move on. See, he was totally in love with this girl Lisa, but she moved away and broke Josh's heart. So I started hanging around, making him cookies and stuff, trying to help ease his heartbreak. I thought maybe in the process he might open his eyes and see me, Emily, instead of his pal Zilky. But as I said, things didn't work out as planned. Now I'm Stalker. So tonight I'm going to Kelly Blake’s party with Charlie Cain. It's kind of the drastic measure, since I don't really like Charlie, but it's a statement. I want Josh to see I'm not pinning away for him. When we get to the party, the first person I see is Josh. I force myself not to look at him, though. Instead, I try to act interested in what Charlie is saying. He's talking about video games or something. Staring into Charlie's innocent blue eyes, I feel sort of bad. He's a really nice guy. I wish I liked him. "Hey Zilky, where were you last night?" Surprised, I turn to see Josh. He has walked clear across the room to talk to me! And he's dropped...

...The imagery in the poem helps build and develop the idea of cherishing life. It says in lines 1 and 2, “Have you ever… listened to rain slapping on the ground?” (Slow Dance- An Inspiring Poem. 1-2) to enhance the theme of living before everything comes to an end. He also says in lines 9 and 10, “When the day is done, do you lie in your bed, with the next hundred chores running through your head?” (Slow Dance- An Inspiring Poem. 9-10), helping the reader visualize laying in bed, thinking of all the things they have to do in the future, instead of resting. One of the most important examples of imagery in this poem is when he used the simile, “When you worry… through your day, it’s like an unopened gift thrown away.” (Carson, Shae. “Slow Dance”), to say that when you worry throughout your day, you waste your day because you are too busy thinking instead of living. The purpose of the imagery in this poem is to help the reader visualize what he says and help put the imagery into their own...

...(Part 1) The homecoming dance was coming up, and because of the whole Angela situation, I still don’t have a date. I called a couple of girls I knew but they already had dates, so I called a few more. They had dates, too. By the final week the pickings were getting pretty slim. The pool was down to the kinds of girls who had thick glasses and talked with lisps. My mom knew what I was going through, and she finally came into my room. Cynthia: So Landon, do you have a date for the dance? Landon: Umm. Haven’t found anyone yet. Cynthia: My poor baby has no date for the homecoming. Landon: Mom! Cynthia: Don’t worry honey, sooner or later you’ll find someone. (leaves the room) (but before she leaves, turns around and calls…) Cynthia: Oh Landon! Landon: Yeah? Cynthia: If you can’t find anyone. I’ll be willing to be your date. Landon: MOM!!!! Cynthia: Just kidding. Good luck honey. So there I was, flipping through the pages in the junior class section, and I ended up with her, the reverend’s daughter, Jamie Sullivan. I thought, she isn’t bad looking, and she’s really sweet, she’d say yes to me, wouldn’t she? (Scene shifts to Landon walking to Jamie’s house) I went to their house after school. I was thinking of something decent to say. Something like, “Hey, babe, wanna be my date?” or something like. “ Yow, wanna date me?”Nope. not that.“ Hey Jamie, would you like to be my date?” Yeah that would do. Jamie: Landon, this is a surprise! Well, I’d invite you in, but my father isn’t...

...Freddy or Jason for our lives. We now have less than a month before our first performance of the season as Dancers United 2012-2013. I just want to give you a little background on dancing so you can understand what Dancers United do and why we call ourselves dancers. Dance has many definitions, Google defines dance as moving rhythmically to music typically following a set sequence of steps. Dictionary.com defines it as to move one’s feet or body, or both, rhythmically in a pattern to steps, especially to the accompaniment of music (Dictionary.com). My personal favorite definition of dance is a nonverbal communication. To me dance is a form of communication, the way you sway your hands across the air and bring them around down to your side; with your face with a distinctive look of joy is telling a story without one word coming out your mouth. That’s what we do in Dancers United we tell a story without opening our mouth. Dancers United is a RSO on the campus of University of Central Arkansas, and caters to the physical art of dancing. The purpose of Dancers United is to merge the different dance styles and capabilities on the campus through performance and community service according to the constitution. Our main genre is Hip-Hop, but we also do other forms of dancing such as ballet, tap, jazz, pom, lyrical, poetry and dance. Anything that comes to mind,...

...Quincy Jones Managerial Economics Michael Jackson Mid-term Paper The Luxurious Music Industry The music industry is an industry that works for you as well as against you depending on what role you play. The way the music industry works in the present time is far from how it used to run before the invention of mp3’s. Before 1999 the industry was worth about twenty billion dollars. Now the industry is only worth about four billion dollars due to the piracy of mp3’s. Nevertheless, the mp3 is one of the greatest inventions known to man, but it has yet to prove that it can be a moneymaker for the industry because of piracy. The industry has evolved from being an automatic moneymaker to every artist striving for sales. When an artist makes a record the record company gives them an advance. This means that the record company gives the artist money to make the record before any sales are made. No matter the type of artist, or how popular the music is since mp3’s were created, it’s almost been impossible to make profit. Even though artists are selling their music, they aren’t selling enough to gain recoupment from their advances. This hurts artists because they have to repay the record company all the money that was given in advance. The RIAA is the recording industry association of America. They review album sales for the year and compare them to previous years. They also are the main part of the industry that is trying to preserve artists’ music. Under the RIAA’s review of last...
