Written Final Throughout all of the classes, we take while getting our education one of, if not the most important is English. English teaches us how to speak and write professionally which can be crucial when finding a job later in life. Although, recently some English teachers have been under a lot of scrutiny from parents because of some of the books that they are having their students read. These are said to have things like poor language, sexuality, violence, and other things normally not allowed in schools. However, students are already being exposed to all of these things at school already. Parents are uncomfortable with these books because of the things that their children are being exposed to. This is understandable, but if you really look at the inner workings of a high school you will see that all of these elements that parents are trying to protect their children from are already all around them within the school itself. Along with that, children can be exposed to so much through social media. In this day and age, it has never been easier to connect with people and be exposed to all sorts of things, both good and bad. However, children have to learn to avoid the bad things on social media and most children have already developed that skill of avoiding those bad things on social media. They make you a better reader which in turn makes you a better writer and speaker. These skills can not only be helpful in school, but they can be extremely helpful later in life when looking for jobs, applying to colleges, and applying for scholarships. Books are part of the curriculum in almost every English class throughout high school. If some books have a certain amount of poor language or sexuality then can be hard to avoid, and just because a book may have those things it does not make them any less educational. Also, children are exposed to poor language and sexuality all the time on television, social media, and even at school. Children develop ways to ignore these bad influences and look past them and this is no different when reading a book in their English class. They are able to look past it and continue reading because they are mature enough to handle them. Whether children read these books in school or not is irrelevant because they are already exposed to all of these things, it is their choice to act on what they are reading or not, and lastly, their teacher had chosen these books for a reason. Books are the key to knowledge and judging them because they have poor language or things of that nature is like judging a person for those same reasons.
