I know that I deserve this scholarship because I am a hardworking and passionate person. Whenever I have a goal or see something that I want, I will continually work hard to get it. I repeatedly tell myself that I will be successful at achieving my doctorate in Medicine, and no one will still me from being so.(?) Each time I find something that sparks a flame in my heart, I require myself to learn anything and everything about it. It was in my freshmen year Biology class that I decided that would be my major. With this scholarship, I will able to pursue my passion in Biology, but I won't let my hard work stop there. Once I achieve my bachelor's degree, I will go immediately into getting my doctorate. I will not let multiple minimum wage jobs become distractions in me getting my education. Even now, I find myself being highly distracted with my extracurricular activities such as volleyball and cheerleading. My ultimate goal is to work at a local clinic as a nurse practitioner in my community. I was always taught you have to crawl before you walk so I’m taking baby steps to start achieving this goal by planning to obtain my associate’s degree in nursing so I can gain some insight and experience in the world of nursing. When I first started out fresh out high school I went to a local community college I didn’t really know what I wanted to major in, but after I obtained my certified nursing assistant license I decided to give it a try to see how I liked working in a hospital setting because I always knew I wanted to help people I just didn’t know how I wanted to help them. While working as a nursing assistant for 4 years I fought my passion of nursing and I knew It took a special individual to do this type of career and I knew I had It in me to be a nurse.

500 Word Essay For College

...College Essay Most college scholarships ask you to write a 500+ word essay, which isn’t that bad, but what is the reason behind it? Do most people that require an essay ever read them? Seriously, who has time to read a 1000+ word essay and chose from the best. Personally, that doesn’t seem to be fair because most people have trouble writing a paragraph, and then we are expected to write a huge essay telling about something in our life or respond to a weird question with a topic that most people won’t even think about. With topics such as, “Explain how your life changed with a death of a parent,”or “How would college affect your career,” or even “Why I deserve this scholarship.” Well, I’m going to explain everything I possibly can. The death of any parent would make anyone change, because no one is the same; we are all unique. With my dad’s death I didn’t know how to act for the longest time, and I still don’t; I say this because the day my father died, the doctor called all of my family back where he lay, hooked up to life support, lifeless. Just looking at his body, I didn't feel anything; however, I looked at the situation as is he wasn’t really dead because I was 12 and didn’t know...

Love

...I’m sure many people are qualified for this scholarship. They probably all say how they’ve loved animals ever sense they were young and how this has been there dream ever sense they were little, now I’m going to tell you why I feel like I deserve this scholarship. Yes, ever sense I was a little girl I’ve wanted to be an animal cop and yes this is my dream, but I’ve worked hard for this dream. I love to help animals in need. Some people say that some animals don’t deserve a home but I feel like some people don’t deserve an animal. I have over 300 hours at my local animal shelter and it is just sad on why some animals come into the shelter neglect, abuse, and just the fact they don’t want them anymore. What I’ve learned is people want babies so we are stuck with a lot of older animals at the shelter. Every animal deserves a second chance its just takes one person to save a life and I want to be the one who help them find each other. I am also an animal foster parent. I take home animals that are either to young to go up for adoption or hurt. Sadly not all the animals make it, I’ve actually brought home two foster kittens a week later one pasted away then a week after that the second one pasted. It’s a risk every time you take home a foster animal because trust me loose one hurts more then anything. I also take animals off the street or from people that just shouldn’t have an animal. Actually this past week I took a kitten that this girl little sister found. They kept him...

Robert and Amy McCormick think it’s definitively a job for football and basketball players on athletic scholarships at big time Division-1 schools, they argue that they are treated as “employees” under federal labor laws and entitled to form unions and negotiate hours and working conditions. B. “There are many more demands put on these young men than any employee of the university,” says Robert McCormick. “These young men are laboring under very strict and arduous conditions, so they really are laborers in terms of physical demands on them while they’re also trying to go to attend school at the same time. C. The player might have to postpone taking courses until the summer. Athletes don’t have free choice of what major they take if the classes conflict with practice schedules. “There are similarities to it being a job, as I look back there is a time allotment that is expected of you,” says Hicks a 1991 graduate. Sympathy For Darry In The Outsiders By S. E. Hinton

...In the book The Outsiders by S.E Hinton we feel more sympathy for Darry rather than Ponyboy. Darry had to miss part of his education and he had to work very hard without appreciation from the rest of his family. One reason why we feel more sympathy for Darry is because Darry had to miss his education even though he had a sports scholarship. For instance on page 16 it says “But we just didn’t have enough money to go to college even with the athletic scholarship he won”. A reason why this shows that we are more sympathetic for Darry is in view of the fact he worked tirelessly, put in his best efforts, and time. He still did not accomplish what he wanted. He deserves sympathy for this because in the meantime he had to juggle a family, school,...

I don’t know why but studying is not the priority anymore though I knew that I am aiming to be on one of the top students again to gain scholarships in my chosen university. Shame of College Sports

...Donovan Rasberry Shame of College Sports Term Paper Organization _ Administration Mr. Bear April 12, 2012 Should College Athletes Be Paid? “…Three-quarters of a billion dollars built on the backs of amateurs on unpaid labor” (Branch). In recent years, there has been much controversy over whether or not college athletes should be paid. The argument has primarily consisted of whether or not college athletes deserve special monetary treatment over the other students at universities. “College Football Players Deserve Pay for Play” by Rod Gilmore, “Why Student-Athletes Should Not Be Paid” by Kabir Sawhney, and “The Shame of College Sports” by Taylor Branch all voice their opinions on this argument. I believe college athletes should have their full tuition, meals, room and board paid for; but I do not think the school should necessarily be responsible for paying the athletes especially since so many are not responsible with their money. Basically, I believe that the school should not be responsible for giving these student athletes money. In many cases, these athletes walk around campus with rock star status anyway.   If they were paid it would further that perception that they were something other than simply a student athlete. If they were to be paid, many of the athletes would simply waste that money on their wants, and not save it for their necessities. The debate must take into account the benefits that colleges and the NCAA reap from these athletes, and in turn what...

Thank you for choosing Smarthinking's OWL; best wishes with revising your paper! *Strengths of the essay: Thanh , thank you for submitting your assignment for review. I am Ann B., your writing tutor. First, I want to point out a strength I noted when I read your paper. This sentence in the introduction presents a question and then answers it: College athletes are supposed to be the best of the best on that level, so why do college athletes not get paid? The question sets up the argument nicely for the reader! Now let’s move on to some areas that need revision. Content Development: A direct quotation like this one is not a good topic or first sentence: McCourt states “The athletes are ones who put in hours of practice and training” ( Evan Rosenfeld and Scarlett McCourt). Your audience may not understand why this quoted passage is important. The topic sentence should present a main point about athletes being paid in your own words. The first point is the hectic schedule. Can you write a topic sentence that introduces this point? I note that the second body paragraph does have a topic sentence introducing a point from the thesis in your own words: Another reason to why college athletes should get paid is they need money...

College Athletes

...Nick Coleman Professor Todd Aldridge ENGL 1110 29 November 2015 Revision: Essay 2 - Paying of College Athletes Several years ago, the National Collegiate Athletic Association, the NCAA, started out as a young business with a couple colleges under their helm, and today they have grown into an $11 billion industry tasked with the controversial decision of sharing their wealth with the college athletes that made them relevant. Should college athletes get paid is what it usually all boils down to. This burning question has been canvassed various times over the turn of the century with several underlying concerns for the athlete’s futures and also their safety. Opponents of paying college athletes contend that the scholarships said athletes received to their institutions of higher learning should be more than enough. Once a university extends a scholarship to an athlete, that athlete becomes property of that university. With that being said, once on campus, they become “student athletes,” a term coined by the NCAA to justify their exploitation of the athletes that made the infamous organization relevant, and also full time workers as they spend on average an excess of more than forty hours a week dedicated to their respective sports. In a survey conducted internally by the NCAA, it was discovered that athletes competing in more than a half a dozen sports indicated that they too, are putting in the equivalent of full time worksheets, but don’t receive the benefits that regular...
