According to Romeo (2003), the emerging in technological development had allowed computers and touchscreen devices to be added into our lifestyle. For example, touchscreen devices like iPod, iPad, Samsung Tab and etc are used to check emails, surf the Internet, connect with people, either for work purpose or personal purpose, and also used in education purposes in pre-school and colleges. Anderson mentioned this in his research in 1999, “The computer has become recognized tool in education of young children, particularly where it is used to promote problem-solving skills and social interactions amongst children” However in Romeo’s report, it has been said that computers play an important role and are important in young children’s lives, National Association for the Education of Young Children’s (NAEYC) had positioned a statement on the use of technology in education lives by young children in year 1996. The NAEYC suggested that young children be provided with opportunities...

...in social and political communities. We can see it equally in the economic sphere, in business organisations or corporations. The high turnover of staff in many work places suggests that people are looking for what Lance Secretan, a Canadian guru on leadership, calls ‘soul space’[1] – an environment where they will not simply be cogs in the wheel of production but can live full and happy lives. In my book, Leading Like Madiba: Leadership Lessons from Nelson Mandela[2], published in March 2006, I have attempted to present through stories the type of leadership that will take our world a higher ground.[3] What is so extraordinary about Mr Mandela’s style and practice of leadership is that it crosses the boundaries of culture, gender, race, religion and age. Madiba (as he is fondly referred to in his home country) has done so in a society that was once more polarized than any other – one the world expected to explode along racial and ethnic lines. That it did not was largely due to this extraordinary man and his unique leadership style. What is equally fascinating about Madiba is the fact that each person that has encountered, in one form or another, his leadership feels personally attended to and served. Mr Mandela’s leadership transforms...

...What's my learning style? Why is it important? Every day we interact with the world around us, and as we do we are constantly learning. Recently I have begun to pursue my Bachelors Degree. Our first college course is designed to help us achieve that goal by providing us insight to the type of student we are and how we learn best. We have been focusing on learning styles and our motivation to learn. Using examples in the next few paragraphs I will attempt to show what I have identified to be my motivation and learning style for pursuing my degree. First lets cover motivation. "Motivation is the force that draws us to move towards something" (Connor 2004). Motivation can play a very large part on how we learn. If you are motivated, you are more likely to learn faster because you find the subject fun or interesting. There are many reasons on why someone might be motivated to learn. For example my motivation to learn is to change my life and the type of work I do, while still providing for my family. Recently I have come to the realization that I am bored in my current career. My parents always taught me that since we have to work most of our lives, choose something you enjoy and if you no longer enjoy it make changes because doing what you enjoy leads to a more happy fulfilling life. So I have decided to change career fields. In order to enter my new chosen field I must have the basic knowledge and understanding of that field, therefore I must learn. This is my own personal internal...

...Why do we get so comfortable with our skill? Why not challenge yourself to improve your skill? As a musician it is very important to challenge yourself. Challenging your skill helps you improve your skill. Settling with your skill and not challenging yourself will not help you as a musician. I actually settled, I never attempted to improve as a musician, that is why this project will help me improve as a musician. As a musician sticking with one style and one genre is not helping at all that is what I had to learn because all I really do is play modern songs, but I learned that in order to improve my skill as a musician I must challenge myself to play multiple genres. In this essay I will explain the steps I took to improve my skills as a musician. By challenging yourself to improve your skill, you can grow as a musician....

...yourself learn the concepts in algebra 1? Explain -Nothing, absolutely, nothing. I don’t do anything outside of class to help myself learn the concepts of algebra, and there’s no reason why I’m not helping myself. Learning the concepts in algebra should be part of my leisure, but it’s not and there’s no reason for that. 2.) What are your responsibilities in order to help yourself in algebra 1? -My responsibilities in this class are simple. Stay focused in class, be ready to commit, and study. 3.) Should a teacher have high standards and expectations for you? Why? -Yes, a teacher should have high expectations for his/her students. I say this because most people excel in certain things when other influences in that person’s life hold high standards for that person. A lot of people cannot exceed by themselves, so that extra push from a teacher can be very helpful. 4.) Should you be held accountable for the quality of work you do in algebra 1? Why? * Yes, you should be held accountable for your quality of work. I make this statement because a student’s progress should be shown throughout their work. Many people might have a different opinion on this but if a student is on a constant progression it should, with no doubt be rendered in that person’s work. 5.) Are you doing everything possible to make sure you are learning in algebra 1? - No, I do not believe I ‘am doing everything to learn algebra. I say that because once I learn a new...

...years after I started it, I find that I’m the type of learner that must be interested in the topic or have a purpose for completing the class. Ever since I was a little girl, I was surrounded by distractions in my life that didn’t allow for me to properly focus on school. I was always able to complete the bare minimum to get by, but never really applied myself to my course studies, unless it was something that I was completely interested in. Studies that, looking back, actually allowed for my brain to rest from the chaotic life it dealt with outside of the classroom. Growing up I always enjoyed the extra-curricular activities as opposed to the general requirements, for example English and History, Economics and Government. Because I struggled with being able to focus while in school, I feel today as an adult I suffer from not knowing about some of the key elements to life. And even though today I realize not knowing these things hinders me at times, I still tend to not have a desire to pursue them to better understand. And the reason for this, are the distractions in my life today. I’ve recognized a pattern in my childhood and in my adulthood and rather than taking responsibility, and taking time out of my busy life to learn and grow as an adult I chose to make excuses. I chose to delay educating myself in these areas that are just as important as the areas I chose to involve myself in. I continue to allow myself to push them aside and tell myself “one day”, but I feel as though...

These questions are important to answer for anyone who wants to be an educator because you have to passion and understanding why you want to be in the field of education. Children are the future leaders of this country; therefore, it is our job to supply them with the foundation and fundamentals to succeed in life. Education is very important in today’s society, and it all starts at a young age. Without the proper foundation and fundamentals, children will fall behind in school, which makes it is very hard for children to catch up as they move on to the next level and pursue their education. That is why it is important to have influential role models that instill the importance...

...Are you a winner? This training course is called English for Winners, and before you delve into it, we should find out together if it is for you. Do you want to be a winner? Most English learners are unhappy with their English ability. If you ask the average English learner to assess their skills, you're very likely to get one of these answers: "I studied English at school for more than 5 years, but my English is not so good." "I speak a little English, but I think it's just 'school English'." "I understand it a little, but I can't speak it fluently." "My grammar is very bad. I've often tried to learn the grammar rules, but they're too complicated for me." "I had good school grades in English but I still can't speak it very well." These are typical complaints, and they make it clear that very few learners are really happy with the quality of their English. Most of them realize that their efforts are not yielding the results they expect. But instead of changing their strategy and trying to find the right learning methods and techniques, they simply give up. They think that they "just don't have a talent for learning languages". The winners, however, are those English learners who have taken control of their own programs. They know that acquiring English is an ongoing process. It is something that happens every day, day in and day out. They also understand that when it comes to learning English any progress is success. ©EnglishForWinners, Page 1 of 34 Dear Listener, since you...

Dotts states that the reason some of these people want these programs to be removed is because they believe that students should be taught to see themselves as individuals rather than seeing race and ethic backgrounds. Dotts does not agree with this thinking, while he does think it is good for students to have some since of individualism, he thinks it is important to talk about and to recognize different cultural backgrounds. He thinks it is important to challenge this idea and to talk to students more about different cultural backgrounds rather than to ignore it. The author’s purpose of this article was to talk...

...There are many things I would want some guidance on from Morrie. I would keep death, aging, marriage, family, society, and forgiveness on my list for Morrie. I think death, and aging are things that I would have a hard time with because nobody likes to think about death, but getting older is also something most people try to avoid. I want to know what it’s like to know you are going to die soon. I also want to how to accept, and face aging because it seems like it is something we all fear. That brings up my next question for him, why do we fear aging? Marriage and family is the next area I would ask Morrie about. Morrie always talks about how important marriage is, but I want to know why he feels so strongly about this, and maybe some advice on how to have a long, happy marriage like his. Our society has drastically changed from Morrie’s generation where family was everything. Now it seems like family gets pushed to the side due to all of our busy lives. I would want Morrie to give his thoughts on why our society has moved in this direction, and how we let this happen. My final topics for Morrie are society, and forgiveness. Morrie doesn’t buy into our society, and I think it would be good to learn why because it seems like everyone else does. Why do we give in to society would be another question on my list. Morrie seems to be very forgiving, and what I want from Morrie is to learn him art of forgiving, but most importantly how to not hold grudges. Overall my list is just a shortened...
