...word and poetry in what is now called Rap. They used is as a way to express themselves when no one wanted to hear what they had to say on a daily basis. In the 60s Rap and Hip Hop was a way many African American men expressed their thoughts without ending up behind bars or beaten to death. Once Rap became mainstream many listeners let go of the beat and listened to the message behind the beat, they started to focus on the lyrics. While being freed from slavery, African American were still slaves to the abuse and being mistreated in American and many didn’t have a fire behind the anger to make a stand. Rap lyrics that held a strong uplifting message gave many people those flames to stand and fight for their rights. In an article I recently read that Rap is linguistics major’s dream while also being their worst nightmare. I didn’t read on to see why the writer stated that because I held my own beliefs as to why this may be true. While rap lyrics hold so much meaning to those listeners it can also be confusing to those who do not agree with the rapper’s lyrics. Within rap there is also many dialects and registers. When listening to a local rapper it can be much easier to understand what he says when he uses a semantic change, while listeners from a different region may not understand what the rapper is trying to say. There is...

...Good music to me lies within the lyrics that tells the story and the rhythm set the mood. A song’s lyrics should be powerful and have an attitude that coincides with the flow of the rhythm. Lyrics need to mean something convey the message that the singer feels whether its joy, sadness or pain. But; no matter how moving or intricate lyrics are, they do not carry weight without the proper beat and rhythm to follow them. A song missing just one of these could make a great song easily be considered awful. For example, in rap, there is a rhythm called the “Knock on Wood, Freestyle” made by self-proclaimed genius Kanye West. Around the rap community, MC’s and fans would agree that this rhythm carries enough weight to support any set of lyrics. As...

...When you think about it, there isn’t a day that goes by without being tempted. Temptation comes along our paths every day in our lives. Whether it is from the foods we eat, the people we talk to, or the choices we make, knowing that sometimes they aren’t right. This is why the rapper Logic decided to inspire, or rather uplift, any of his audience going through some adversities or rough patches in life, in his song “Never Been”. Throughout his song, he uses countless examples of how he overcame adversities of his own and is reassuring that immoral temptation is challenging but he believes that we can all overcome it. Logic opens this song with the lyrics, “I’ve been workin’ like I’ve never been, I struggle everyday but I just can’t let the devil in”. Logic is saying how he recognizes how difficult it is to refrain from temptation and how he learned from every situation he has been in. We not only deal with our personal demons, but we also come in contact with outside demons such as the environment that we are put in and by some people perceiving to be the devil to destroy us. In these lyrics right here, Logic is saying we struggle everyday but we can’t let anything or anyone distract us from what we want. These demons, whether internal or external, try to corrupt us but he wants us to know that we are not alone. Immediately after these lyrics, Logic raps “And if I knew back then what I know right now, what I know right now, I’d be better than I’ve ever been, better than I’ve...

...Hi everyone HipHopLover04 writing As a lot of you requested, here are my answers to the most frequently asked questions, hope you like it Don’t forget to like and leave comments History of HIP-HOP Hip Hop was born in the United States, more precisely in the Bronx, New York City in the early 70's. Clive Campbell, aka. DJ Kool Herc, THE INVENTOR OF HIP-HOP, started to play some hip-hop music at block parties and that's how it all began. The music itself comes from Disco Rap, which is a lighter and funnier version of the hip-hop we know today. In the beginning the DJ's would only take the instrumental parts of songs and mix them while keeping a constant beat. After, the lyrics came in and TADAAA here is hip-hop you now know. But what were they singing about? Well before, people were trying to express their opinions their main theme was an ideal of equality and also as always, how bad their government was corrupted while today to be honest is only about women and how big their breast or their "derrière" are even though we can still find some really good music. WHAT ARE THEY FIGHTING FOR? Originally, hip-hop was about bringing a whole community together. That's why it started the poor Black and Latino communities, they had to face poverty and their exile from the rest of society: it was one of the only ways to stay united. Today, with the popularization of Hip-Hop and its massive investments in massive culture, Hip Hop music has lost more and more of its original aim...

...Imagine is a song by John Lennon which I believe talks about a specific worldview; Nihilism. Today I'm going to prove why. From reading the song lyrics, I believe that John Lennon is a Nihilist, which means John doesn't believe there's a heaven or hell. The lyrics say "There is no heaven, it's easy if you try, no hell below us, above us only the sky." With worldviews like Nihilism, there's this thing called "7 big questions about worldviews" One of the questions are "What do you believe happens after death?" Referring back to my evidence: "There's no heaven it's easy if you try no hell below us, above only just the sky" that's where this quote fits in perfectly to answer that specific question. I shall continue proving & expanding my evidence...

...Hear that Tune When I turned on the radio, the song “Springsteen” pumped though the speakers of my car. Since I was already having a bad day, hearing this song just made me smile. It’s weird how just one song can make such an impact on a person that can turn your day around. Listening to music can simply brighten your day. Music was made for people to dance in all genres and all ways. Music is used to dance in line dances at country places. Here, in order for people to dance and know the moves, they have to listen to the beat of the music in order to do certain moves. Weddings are another great example of how music is used to dance. Weddings mostly always involve a dj or a live band in which the bride and groom take their first dance together and so on to various music they have selected. Dance competitions are a huge example of why music is important for dance. Music is needed here to compete against other people through dance moves that correlate to the music. Dancing can be done without music but in order to have a steady beat and keep the moves correct as a person would have rehearsed, it would be best to dance to music. Dancing can help celebrate exactly what the music means to you. Songs can mean everything to a person when the lyrics relate to you. All songs have different lyrics so they all can have different meanings. When a person can relate directly to the lyrics, it gives that person a sense of comfort. The lyrics make people realize that you aren’t alone in the...

...In 2005 the band came out with two albums at once, “Digital Ash in a Digital Urn” and “I’m Wide Awake it’s Morning.” The song I have chosen comes from “I’m Wide Awake…” and is the 6th track on the album. It’s a slow acoustic song about love, and love not being returned but overall has an upbeat tempo and meaning. The song is all done acoustic with no percussion or electrical instruments, just the singer and the guitar, with very little other background instruments that you can only sometimes pick out backing up the guitar. This soft approach really lets you listen to the lyrics without being distracted and helps you feel the overall meaning of the song. With the lighter than normal background music and his soft-spoken voice the song is an easy listen that has a lot of emotion behind it. The style of writing he uses for his lyrics are very basic. He uses common words without any catchy hooks or chorus, which, to me makes his words have a deeper meaning. He’s not writing or making music for the radio or the general public, he’s writing about his life and his experiences and is just inviting you along for the ride. The song is almost like a journey. When it starts you can’t quite figure out where it’s going to end up. The subtraction a repeating chorus helps you stay on this adventure and it helps you focus on listening to the words he’s saying. When you listen to Bright...

... 1. Why were the Blues considered “distasteful” by society? Blues was considered “distasteful” by society because there were so many people going around preaching and brainwashing the public. They wanted people to believe that blues was crude, barbaric, vulgar, suggestive, and a music form that should appeal only to animal emotions. 2. How were blues-women viewed by other “trained, professional” musicians? John Wesley Work III viewed the blues-women as a singer with “not much hope in earth-a thoroughly disillusioned individual… [who] translated everyday happenings into her own intimate inconvenience. Later in the article Dave Peyton from the Defender stated that black musicians should be trained and understand what they should do to meet European standards. 3. Discuss ways in which songs by blues-women represented social protest and reflected personal views of oppression. (You may give example of song lyrics.) Lyrics and titles represented social protest and personal views of oppression in the songs of blues-women. Throughout this article McGuire provided a number of examples that allowed his readers to see how blues-women exemplified these things in their songs. The first example was the “Chain Gang Blues” by Ma Rainey this song talked about the chain gain experience. The lyrics of this song went like this: Many...
