Why I Want To Be A SIA

The primary reason why I want to become a member of SIA is the service, the giving back to the community that SIA does. When I was doing some classes over the summer at the University of Maryland, College Park, I got a follow from UMD’S Chi chapter of SIA on Instagram and when I was looking at their posts I saw their services to the Latinx community and I was amazed by it. Community service is something that I strive to do because even though the area that I live in, the Adelphi/Langley Park area which is close to UMD, is a poorer community that is heavily populated by minorities it made me who I am today, and I am proud of who I am today. I want to give back to my community and make it better for future generations and that is exactly what SIA is doing, so I want to be a part of it. …show more content…
I have met some of the hermanas from the Chi chapter and I have seen how close they are, how they support each other, and I want to experience that bond. I am a first generation student and the last child of five. I have three brothers and one sister and because of the age difference and some problems that have occurred in the family due to separation, I never had the chance to be close to them. If I attempt to talk to them about anything relating to college or problems that I have my brothers do not how to respond because they have gone through different things than what I go through. I cannot talk to my actual sister because she cut off all contact with me due to some problems she has had with our parents, so I have no way to actually talk to her. I feel that if I were to join SIA then I would be able to know what a sisterhood relationship feels like, I would love to get to know that

...STUDY #KNG “Develop and Foster Unique Quality” Subject: IE 222 (04) – Engineering Management I. Define the Problem This case study seeks to analyze the problems encountered by SIA Corp in their transition from a Bureaucratic to a Learning Organization. It will also give an account on how will the employees respond on the change in the management approach of the corporation. The main issue in this study was finding an efficient method to transform SIA into a learning organization without making the employee feel uncomfortable with the change. II. Background and Objective of the Company The situation in this study infers the need to merge employee knowledge into one unified system thinking that it will help in the improvement of the efficiency of the performance of the corporation. SIA Corporation got hold of 30 separate firms. However, they were still acting like different companies. They still had their own management. This resulted into the development of specialization of each employee. Surviving in the industry with this situation is unlikely. Thus, the SIA needed to change their perspective and approach if they want to succeed. Through Jerry Seibert, the Chief Knowledge Officer of the newly created department – Knowledge Management dept – the change in the company's approach was accomplished. They were able to strategize a solution to help the SIA develop into a learning organization. Learning Organization is an organization in which everyone is engaged...

Soon We'Ll Be Found

...Carré - the magnificent mind behind the video for Sia's forthcoming single, 'Soon We'll Be Found.' What inspired the basic concept of the video and who came up with the idea of using sign language? Was it input from Sia or was it your visual response to the lyrics? It was Sia's idea to incorporate sign language in the video -I was told she would like to include it in some way when I received the song to write the treatment. I loved the idea of doing the entire video in sign language instead of lip synching the vocals. A music video is a visualization of the song, and the sign language is an interpretation of the song into a visual language, so it's a perfect fit. What was the purpose behind using so many different kinds of light sources and the shadows they create? I wanted to explore different aspects of sign language. In the first section where Sia is performing under regular lights, the sign language is treated in its linguistic form as a method of communication, and the focus is on the performative aspect of the ASL (American Sign Language) interpretation. The shadow section is kind of a creative expansion on the relationship between signs and their meaning. The shadows of the hands directly transform into things themselves, and create an imaginary world around Sia. Where the shadow section is more two-dimensional, the UV section is four-dimensional and plays with the shapes of the signs in time and space (particularly with the trailing effect) and the extension of the signs...

Short Story

...she was young she had seen it in full brightness and the transparent artificial heat amplifier sky under the clouds was not required. All the girls born from my mother worked in the underground rock mine used for power generation. My mother was classified class II and sent to care for the kids of working mothers. We all had the same routine, wake up on the central alarm, auto clean mode, take daily medicines for radiation, eat breakfast pills and get to the mine in underground personal or group bots. I would have never found this any different had I not discovered my grandmother’s diary. We were not allowed to have any stuff other than standard issue body cover. The living hives were swept every sunrise, but I had long memorized the meaningless sentences. It spoke about men living with women – a vague term starting with F, if I’m not wrong family then manufacturing breakfast pills called food, again F. There are many confusing things like Fun, happy, Love and that consummate, I think that would be the word to make babies. We had many planets like us in the Milky Way Galaxy. Each planet is explained vividly in her book. One made of only rocks, one without the power to hold us and we float all the time (giggle, in lower volume. Volume is monitored). Then my Grandma’s favorite, the blue one with lots of people with different body covers, languages and she says she’s been there once to witness a festival called Kumbmela, the most visited one in their Galaxy. The catastrophe struck...

The past focuses on the key strategic drivers in the airline industry over the past 10-20 years and provides a historic industry overview. The present serves the role of looking at the airline industry and SIA’s present strategic drivers and what is important to consider in this environment. The Possible Futures, or PFutures, looks at what potential drivers or strategic advantages may be present in future, and how SIA is responding to some of these issues. The research in this project is mainly qualitative. It is based on interviews with key people within the airline industry, government officials, industry analysts and stakeholders. Answer: President/CEO Tucker CompanyVP- Commercial Jet Engine Division VP – Military Jet Engine Division VP- Utility Turbine Division Laboratory Service Department *The laboratory is located in the military jet engine division because they can provide better service to them compared to other divisions. | Q2. Analyse the conflict between Hodge & Franklin. Do you think the conflict is based on personalities or on the way the organisation is structured? Answer: Hodge is a new manager of laboratory department that service and support all of the major divisions. He replaced Garfield who retired in 1988. During the time of Garfield there was little evidence of interdepartmental or interdivisional conflict. However in the case of Hodge 6 months after he took the post, he became involved in several interdepartmental conflicts over work that involves his department particularly in Utility turbine division engineering department where Franklin is the head. There seem to be a clash of authority and a question of chain of command. I think the conflict is both based on personalities and the way the organisation is structured...

Singapore Airlines. the International Airline Industry

...The International Airline Industry Background The airline industry has been limited in expanding because of national and international regulations. Even the dominant players in this market have only been able to keep their dominance over their own markets, except for United States. In United States, the state owned national flag carriers have been the key players of this industry. But in 1990, the competition started to increase in this industry. This was caused due to deregulation, privatization and advent of new technology. During the nineties every major country in the world saw deregulation in airline’s industry. In 1978 United Stated deregulated its airlines and saw an increased competition in their local market. Similar thing happened to European Union when they disbanded their country specific barriers to free market competition among air carriers. Asia also followed the same route. Some regions in Asia quickly deregulated themselves. Many small national carriers in Latin America were privatized. The emergence of free market competition was expected to be more dominant as many European Nations were discussing implementation of opening transatlantic market with USA where landing rights would be determined by free market forces, rather than regulation. The countries signed bilateral agreements between countries that enabled the airlines of those countries to provide landing and takeoff facilities for air carriers of those countries. Privatization and deregulation...

...the Richard Branson of Asia. Do you like that comparison? T: Well, I mean Richard Branson has done a lot of great things, so it's a bad comparison, but we're very, very different people, from a business philosophy. We're also very similar in some areas, but we are different business-wise. But there could be worse people that we're compared to. A: Mr. Branson, Richard Branson, has actually just bought into your long haul operation, which is gonna be starting shortly, taking 20 percent for not a huge amount -- under 10 million, we believe. What are you gonna get out of that? How do you get the Branson name or magic involved in that? T: Well, I think what a lot of people have missed out, is we started this idea about two years ago. I mean we're obviously friends, we've known each other for a long time, I worked for him initially, 20 odd years ago. So we talked about doing something together. We talked about Virgin Blue first, but that didn't work out 'cause he had a funny kind of partner back then. Through a conversation we said, hey, why don't we try this out. And, so he's really a founder as much as I am, and I think if this model works, there's no reason why it can't go into the UK and other parts where Virgin are in. A: This is a big if, because the long-haul model, the short-haul works obviously, your short-haul model works. And you're basing the long-haul on the short-haul plan... T: Well, do you know, um, if I can go back five years, everyone said a short-haul low-cost carrier...

Self- Mutilation

...an effort to create relief from a negative affective incident, it differs for each person. It is used as a means for a person to temporarily deal with the pain, rather than abort it all together. In suicidal patients, pain is viewed as everlasting, which makes them feel hopeless. While, on the other hand self-injurers often portray an optimistic attitude (Walsh, 2006). Hence, there is a big difference between the behaviors and intent, which is why it is important to recognize these differences. Self-injurious behavior tends to be separated into two general categories: culturally sanctioned and deviant self mutilation. Culturally sanctioned rituals and practices comprise of ear piercing in the modern U.S culture, sacrament dances amongst Native Americans that entail self-mutilation, and the genital circumcision of Jewish offspring. These practices are commonly approved as standard traditions within in that they occur without question. They frequently are recognized as a rite of passage or to communicate with a higher power( Stone & Sias, 2003). The second category is deviant self mutilation or self injurious behavior. “...

Love in the Time of Visitors Study

...intro Mi succede sempre così. Ogni santa volta. Ogni mercoledì scendo dalla circum e sono determinata: oggi finalizziamo la bozza del questionario! Sì si! E poi subito lo traduciamo. Inglese, francese, spagnolo e – perché no – pure tedesco.

MANAGEMENT SNAPSHOT Kevin Plank’s Determination at Under Armour What Does It Take to Succeed Against Tough Odds? W hen Kevin Plank was a walk-on fullback football player at the University of Maryland in the 1990s, he often became annoyed that his T-shirt was soaked and weighted down with sweat. Always an original thinker, he wondered why athletic apparel couldn’t be made out of some kind of polyester blend that would help athletes’ and sports aficionados’ muscles stay cool while wicking away, and not holding, moisture from sweat.1 As he was finishing his undergraduate studies at Maryland, he started experimenting with different fabrics, testing their durability, comfort, and water resistance with the help of a local tailor. A prototype of Under Armour’s first product—the 0039 compression shirt—was developed.2 Upon graduation from the University of Maryland, Plank was offered a position at...
