Throughout this journal, I will be characterizing Burris Ewell as unmannerly and aggressive. First off, one way describe Burris Ewell is that he is unmannerly. One way that Burris is unmannerly is that he talks rudely to his teacher, Miss Caroline. He does not talk back to her in a way that his elderly should be respected. He does not seem to withhold his distasteful words that seem to offend Mrs. Caroline. Next, the second way he is unmannerly is because his actions are atrocious. He acts in a way that he does not consider how other people will feel. He offends others when he talks and snorts. He stands up to act like he has more power than everyone around him. Words can sometimes be more hurtful than actions. The tone and pitch of his voice shows that he does not mean good. Burris’s anger in his voice shows that school is not the only thing that bothers him. Secondly, another reason why he is aggressive is because he threatened his teacher. Burris got quite angry with his school teacher because she told him to bath before he came back to school and in a normal situation younger kids would respect what their teachers say and keep to themselves. A quote to support this idea is “You try and make me, missus” (Lee 36). As one can see, Burris reacted in a different way in which was uncalled for and discourteous. Also, the last way he is aggressive is because he does not come from a good family. As in the book Scout explains that Atticus has said that the Ewells have been a disgrace and that Mr. Ewell spends his money on whiskey other than his own children (Lee 41). As one can see Burris does not get proper care and attention. He does not have someone to show him the way to treat a lady and speak kindly to others. Burris does not have a loving home to show him what school can do for his future. Overall, one can characterize Burris Ewell as unmannerly and
