In the play the crucible written by, Arthur Miller there are many important quote, but here are three. . In act four there is an important quote that I noticed. First, one important quote said by Elizabeth Proctor told the john Proctor “ John, I counted myself so plain, so poorly made, no honest love could come to me! Suspicion kissed you when I did; I never knew how I should say my love. It were a cold house I kept! “ For example, Elizabeth is expressing her love to John Proctor. In this play Elizabeth is madly in love with John Proctor, but John Proctor has cheated on her with someone who performs witchcraft. Second, Elizabeth also tells Proctor that there is no one higher than the great God above and asking for his forgiveness, so that when she passes she accepted into heaven. What she ends up saying to John is to show her love, but to also protect herself from the drama all created. This is one major part in the play, because john has an affair with an underage orphan and she begs for him to stay with him rather than telling the truth for Abigail. …show more content…
Putman tells Paris that Tituba was the one who started the ceremony. First, Mrs. Putman tells him “ Tituba knows how to speak to the dead, Mr. Paris. “ in other words, she's saying that because Tituba knows how to speak to the dead she had to have every last bit thing to do with the witchcraft, because none of the girls would of know how to speak to the dead. Second, Mr. Putnam also says that “ I take it on my soul, but who else may surely tell us what person murdered my babies? “ Meaning that nobody other than Tituba could of called on the crazy witches to kill her precious babies. Why Is Elizabeth Proctor Important In The Crucible

...Elizabeth Proctor & I “I cannot think the devil may own a woman’s soul, Mr. Hale when she keeps an upright way, as I have. I am a good woman, I know it ; and if you believe I may do only good work in the world, and yet to be secretly bound to Satan, then I must tell you sir, I cannot believe it. This quote shows that Elizabeth Proctor is a good and caring woman. She is secretly worried about her trial during the crucible, and about her husband John Proctor. Elizabeth and I have many similar traits. We are both caring, loyal, and even worried sometimes. Being kind and caring are good traits that Elizabeth and I share. One way that Elizabeth is caring is when she looks out for John in the courtroom. John explains his affair to the judge, and Elizabeth not knowing John confessed and protected him by saying he didn't have an affair. Some ways I am caring is that I have a job at Aeropostale and I donate $1 from every paycheck to Aero Cares and they help people in need. Another example is whenever my brother or sister need anything I always get it for them no matter how big of a hassle it may be. Overall Elizabeth and I are very caring to others....

Why Is Elizabeth Proctor Important In The Crucible

...Arthur Miller gives us this play, which represents many things. He shows us people we can relate to and understand. We see trials and tribulations that these characters go through which helps us seem them as raw and unperfect people. Through these effects he establishes the foundations of The Crucible: courage, truth , and weakness which are represented by many characters throughout the play. Elizabeth Proctor, one of the plays most important characters, resembles truth like no other in the play. The part where she reveals her honesty and character is when she is called in front of the court to testify against Abigail Williams for comiting adultery with her husband. In this moment, she lies to protect her husband. Here she is honest to her husband and to her marriage. She is honest and tries to the bigger person in times of trial which is something we can all admire her for. John Proctor, like his wife, has not only superior morals and character, but more courage than the average man. Proctor shows us multiple times that he is more than willing to stand up for...

Who Is To Blame In The Crucible

...Elizabeth Proctor and I “ I surely do. There be no mark of blame upon my life, Mr. Hale. I am a covenanted Christian woman.” This quote is said by Elizabeth Proctor who I believe mostly relates to me. After learning about her, I’ve learned that we shared a lot of the same characteristics. In the Crucible, Elizabeth plays a nice Christian woman who is married to John Proctor. She is accused of witchcraft but does not confess because of her beliefs. After reading the Crucible I am most like Elizabeth Proctor because I am religious, loyal, and forgiving. Being religious is a characteristic that I found Elizabeth and I had in common. One way Elizabeth shows her religious side in the Crucible is when she told John in Act lV that if he lies and confesses to witchcraft he will sin. Although she knows it will save his life, she didn’t want him to sin. I am religious because my family and I go to church every Sunday....

Crucible

...October 2015 The Crucible Analytical Paper “It takes many good deeds to build a good reputation, and only one bad one to lose it,” Benjamin Franklin once said. Reputation has a large impact on the citizens of Salem, Massachusetts in the play, The Crucible. John Proctor is most affected by the thought of maintaining an acceptable reputation for his name. Throughout The Crucible, by Arthur Miller, John Proctor made many mistakes, one such as committing adultery, which made his wife, Elizabeth Proctor, lose his trust. Although he made mistakes, the town still saw John as a respectable man who cared immensely for his family. In the end, John did admit his sin of adultery and was hanged. Through “Aristotle’s Poetics” it is proved that John Proctor is the tragic hero of The Crucible because his true character comes out and he becomes a good man in the end by admitting to his wrong-doings, committing adultery, in order to save his reputation and family. John Proctor ruins his reputation within the change of fortune, or catastrophe, appeal  of “Aristotle’s Poetics”. A change of fortune is explained as “occurs when a character produces an effect opposite to that which he intended to produce…”(McManus). John Proctor did not want his reputation ruined or his relationship with his wife ruined, however the complete opposite happened to him creating a major problem. The change of fortune is when John is finally forced to admit to the court about his sin (Miller 119). John Proctor commits adultery...

The Crucible Relationship Between Elizabeth And Proctor

...The play, ¨The Crucible¨, by Arthur Miller, took place in a fairly small village called, Salem. Three very important characters in the play were Abigail, Elizabeth Proctor, and John Proctor. The three of them had very mixed feelings toward each other. Elizabeth and John Proctor were husband and wife, but John cheated on her with Abigail. Elizabeth kicked Abigail out of the house because she knew that her and John were having an affair, which caused Abigail to feel envious towards Elizabeth. If Abigail feels jealous of Elizabeth, then that means that Abigail must love John Proctor. A reason why Abigail loves Proctor is because she constantly thinks of Proctor and the affair. She tries to seduce and continue a sexual relationship with him. In Act 1, she tells Proctor, ¨Give me a word John, a soft word¨ to which Proctor responds with, ¨No, no, Abby. That’s done with.¨. Some of the characteristics of a tragic hero include suffering a reversal of fortune, experiencing a punishment that exceeds the crime, and leaving the reader with a sense of pity and terror, and having excessive pride- or hubris. These are some of the many reasons why John Proctor was considered a tragic hero. There are many times in The Crucible when John Proctor shows his hubris. One of these is in Act IV when Hale urges everyone to confess to sin in order to save their lives. Proctor can not do this because he cannot blacken his name. One example of John Proctor’s excessive pride is whenever he is arguing with Elizabeth about cheating with Abigail, he says, “No more! I should have...

Essay On The Crucible Movie

...Based on the text from our textbook, “The Crucible” seems to be a pretty accurate portrayal of the Salem witch trials. According to American History Volume I, “The most famous outbreak…was in Salem, Massachusetts, where adolescent girls began to exhibit strange behavior and leveled accusations of witchcraft against several West Indian servants steeped in voodoo lore. The hysteria they produced spread throughout the town, and before it was over hundreds of people (most of them women) were accused of witchcraft (86).”In the beginning of “The Crucible,” we see a group of girls with a slave named Tituba dancing and carrying out voodoo or witchcraft. Women seemed to be the main partakers in real life so the movie got that part right. The part that the movie was not based on real events was the whole affair between John Proctor and Abagail Williams. Back then, that would have looked bad on the Proctor family and Abagail. The whole family and Abagail probably would have been exiled from the church and maybe even from the...
