Running is essential to me. I have played many sports and been on many teams, but the teams I've been on never really felt like a family, until I started running cross-country, indoor and outdoor track. I have never been pushed so mentally and physically hard ever before in my life. The running program at my school does not get much support, compared to other programs such as basketball and football. I still enjoy it though, because it helps me have a strong mindset, at times when I want to walk or quit at practice or during a meet, and keep I continue pushing forward. I started running my freshman year in high school, when I joined the indoor track team. There were only two other boys on the team. Not even enough for a relay team. We still …show more content…
My junior year we had a much more discipline group and had eight boys on the team. Myself individually, I qualified for the 500m dash and place 7th in the 3A state meet, becoming all-state. Our 4X8 team qualified for state and placed 6th in state. Our 4X4 team qualified for state as well, we seeded 5th in the state, but when that gun fired, our first leg took of and was in first, but when he came around for the last fifty meters he got passed by two people, I was our second leg and I caught on the teams instantly, but then when I went to pass the other team, the runner cut me off and made me step on the bar and almost over it, and we would have been disqualified. I soon after caught back up to him and passed him putting our team in first. Our third leg was leading, but then the team I just passed caught up to him and were neck and neck the whole time, until a few meters before the final hand off our third leg passed the team. During the final hand off we had a clean hand off but the team near us did not, their runners tripper over each other and dropped their

Social Norms

...daily, but in different cultures around the world these norms may vary dramatically.  You have asked us to go out and break a social norm, and pay attention to the peoples reactions.   This is a huge eye opener for me, and I am sure the others in the class as well. The concept really is a great way to examine yourself, your culture, and to think about how these normality’s have come to be.   As for me this proved to be a little nerve racking as I probably fall into the slightly shy category.   So I started thinking about some of these things I do everyday, and decided I was going to take my dog for a walk.   But this time instead of looking forward as do most human beings, I would walk backwards, and let my dog lead me through the park.   This was my first idea and I figured I would give it a try and see if I got reactions from people.   The park where I was walking was completely packed with people because it was a Saturday morning.   I couldn’t help but crack a smile as the people around me started to stare at me like I was completely retarded.   I’m sure in some ways they were right.   I kept walking, nearly trampling over an old man who was power walking.   He gave me a confused look, and I could tell he wanted to tell me off.   At first all of the looks made me feel very uncomfortable, but then I started to become very amused with myself.   I felt like I was in a jackass bit, or in a candid camera show. I’m not sure there is any place in the world where walking backwards...

Personal Fitness Goal

...Short and long-term goals help me learn to push myself and have perseverance. By doing these exercises I improved many dimensions of wellness. I improved my physical wellness by giving my body exercise. This helps my body function properly by gaining muscle and maintaining a healthy balance between activity and caloric intake. My heart is also a muscle, and by exercising I kept a healthy heart. I improved my emotional wellness because I know that exercise releases endorphins and dopamine in the brain, which are chemicals that fight stress and improve your mood. By exercising more I released more of these chemicals which made me happier and improved my emotional health. I also improved my intellectual wellness because exercise gives your brain a break which allows it to focus better later. Studies show that exercising can help improve your memory, and endorphins you release when exercising can also help the brain become more alert and focused. This means that when I took a break from sitting around in school all day and doing my homework to exercise, I was able to focus better on my homework afterwards. This helped me in school and it helped my learning. I can use this information to be successful in the future because if I know the benefits of having a goal, plan, and positive mindset then I will be able to accomplish...

Administrator and Teacher Interview

...Running head: Administrator and Teacher Interview Administrator and Teacher Interview Administration and Teacher Interview I remember sitting in the Principles Office one day during recess unsure of why she would want to meet with me. My knees were knocking, my palms were damp, and you could sense the amount of fear that was present in my body. As Ms. Bagakowski called me into her office she reassured me that this was a friendly visit and not one of discipline. She wanted to ask if I would be okay with moving into a different class because I was struggling in my current class. As I look back now on the experience I understand more of the reasons behind the switch and I also understand the role that both my Teacher and the Principle play in the school. The assignment this week was to interview both an Administrator and a Teacher and compare and contract their roles in the education system. I like that you used a personal example. When I went into Ms. Vance’s office I was quickly reminded of the fear I felt waiting for Ms. Bagakowski. Ms. Vance is the Director for Madison Christian Children’s Center in Phoenix, Arizona. As I began the interview Ms. Vance expressed her passion for children and how she became the director of Madison Christian Children’s Center. It wasn’t until she was mother that she really found her true calling to be a Teacher. She ran her own daycare from him and after her children were old enough to attend Preschool she went to work...

Wiesel believes it is important for people today to read this book because they need to be shown how important it is not to keep silent and let something like the holocaust happen again. Elie has some of the most marvelous figurative language throughout the novel, starting off with some metaphors. Elie and the rest of the block are running to a peculiar concentration camp, with no rest Elie starts having speculation of what will happened if he stops running. “ A great ideal wave of men came rolling onward and would have crushed me like an ant” (87). Day-to-Day Stress

...In the following paper I would like to talk about a problem that causes stress my daily life. I will describe how to gather information to help me solve this problem and where the information can be obtained. In this paper I will talk about my experiences and how I deal various forms of stressors at home and in social settings. Daily stress Stress is a term used by many, is severly misunderstood, and often used to describe a negative condition or emotional state. It is our biological way of dealing with sudden changes in our life. The biggest stressor for me is fatigue.   Most days, my morning starts around 10 a.m.   By 11 a.m., I’m hurrying to the store to grab an energy drink then back home to work on school assignments and apply for jobs online.   At 12 a.m. I start my “work day”, which typically requires cleaning, preparing my daughter for school, and taking care of any outside work that needs to be done.   I usually find myself leaving home at 5 p.m. and heading to pick up my daughter from daycare.   Whether we go to the park, play some type of sports in the yard, or go on a bike ride; I spend the next 3 hours running around behind my 4 year old daughter, using my last bit of stored energy. When our playtime is done we head inside to do her school work and other learning activities.   Spending family time is important, so usually its dinner and a movie until I can make myself fall asleep around midnight. Even during weekends I find myself engaged in family activities...

Reflections on Nutrition

... Instructor: Kantrell Brown Before I took this class I slept, eat, and drank because I was tired, hungry, or thirsty. My stomach was rumbling, I was bored, sad, happy, or just because ice cream and donuts looked and tasted good. I never really gave much thought into why my body needs food. I now realize that the food we eat provides the energy our bodies need to function. Like gas in one’s car or recharging our cell phones our bodies need to be fed energy to maintain our activities every day. It is our little helpers of vitamins and minerals that provide the adequate balance that keeps or bodies healthy. Every assignment that we had to do was a new learning experience. I like every assignment because it taught me something that I never thought about, especially the digestive system. This makes me realize how intricate our bodies are, and the transformation that happen when we open our mouth. It taught me how food and liquid are absorbed by the entire body and how this complex system is the secret to our health. Understanding how miraculous our bodies really work helped me understand why it is important to eating right. The one assignment that affected me the most was the dehydration one. I am not much of a drinker, and I usually do not drink unless I am thirsty. After doing this assignment I realized how dehydrated I really was. I did have some problems, urinating was less frequent and when I did go it was a little dark. Headaches...

...Code of Conduct or the Student Code of Academic Integrity that surprised you? If so, what was it? Why were you surprised? If not, why not? There was nothing that really surprised me about the University of Phoenix Student Code of Conduct or the Student Code of Academic Integrity. These are simple rules that everyone should follow on a day to day basis. Anywhere someone goes there are always going to be rules and regulations to follow. If students are not able to conduct themselves in a respectful and honest manner, then the University of Phoenix is not the place for them. If students are able to follow the simple rules that are set forth by the University of Phoenix then they make their time at the University of Phoenix much easier. However, if faculty and staff where to do the opposite, then of course they only make it harder for themselves. Decisions that we make as students and faculty members can have a big effect on us in the future. • What did you learn about the behaviors considered important for an ethical learner or student in the University of Phoenix learning community? I learned that to be an ethical learner requires a person to be honest. We should behave in an appropriate manner and make proper choices when doing our school work. Lying, cheating, and dishonesty should never be accepted even if someone is running behind in their school work. I have also learned that by taking short cuts such as lying and cheating...

Definition Essay: What Is Too Much Perseverance?

...attitudes. Most don’t take the word seriously anymore, due to the overuse of the word. Others take it so seriously that they live by the word, use it to try and motivate others, and post it everywhere they can possibly think of. That was an exaggeration, but it gets the point across. Although perseverance is portrayed as an excellent thing to practice, there is the possibility of too much perseverance. Throughout my running career, I’ve had some run-ins with “too much perseverance”. There was a time when each and every run was a struggle due to the pain in my shins. As I began my run, the sun’s warmth creating a sticky feel on my skin, the dirty-socks-mixed-with-body-odor smell of my sweat was the last thing on my mind. Pain searing through my shins with each and every teeny-tiny step dominated all the thoughts in my brain. It felt as though my muscles were being torn off of my bone; my bone that was also breaking from the pressure. Tears welling up behind my eyes, I began to search for a distraction from my never-ending pain. I had to pull it together before my “running-buddies” noticed how much pain I was experiencing. I could hear the little giggles as...
