Secrecy and Its Significance in Romeo and Juliet
Introduction
Sometimes it’s absolutely necessary for a secret to be kept. Revealing a secret could lead to consequences that are absolutely disastrous, which is the case in Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet.
One of the characters, Juliet’s Nurse, is required to keep the secret regarding the marriage of Romeo and Juliet, despite the fact that their families are enemies.
Thesis: Secrecy is necessary in Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet because, in some cases, the effects of exposing or revealing a secret could have disastrous effects.

I think that my first quote shows how Juliet trusts the Nurse enough to tell her about how she wants to marry Romeo. If the Nurse had ended up telling Lord and Lady Capulet, Juliet’s trustworthy bond with the Nurse definitely would have died, Juliet could have been punished, and Romeo could have been killed.

Topic Sentence: Usually, the character who knows the secrets of other characters chooses to keep the secrets.
One of the ways this affects the plot is because it develops the characters. A character who reveals secrets is seen as untrustworthy. It also builds relationships between the other characters. One example of this is in Romeo and Juliet how Juliet and her Nurse have such a trusting relationship and bond where they can tell each other anything.
It’s evident that Juliet trusts her Nurse because she tells her everything. I’d say that Juliet trusts her Nurse more than her own parents because she told her Nurse about her secret marriage. She even got the Nurse to deliver messages between them, as seen in the following quote.
Quote: “What says he of our marriage? What of that?” (Shakespeare II.v.40).
