After the outbreak of war, in which Salinger served as an infantryman, unfortunately the piece was considered unpatriotic and did not get published until 1946. At the same time, another story entitled I’m Crazy, which contain some materials used later in the writing of The Catcher in the Rye, appeared in Collier’s magazine on December 1945.
