...other people Kelly coughed on and they were sick, this would confirm my claim. Both of these strategies would most likely work to support my claim. With Popper, if I could not locate healthy people that Kelly coughed on, this supports my claim, on the other hand if I did find people that she coughed on and they were healthy, then this disconfirms my claim. Both ways show the claim could be falsifiable. Mosser, K. (2011). An introduction to logic. San Diego, CA: Bridgepoint Education, Inc. ...Joshua Westcott Kohlberg’s Moral Development April 30, 2012 As children’s cognitive abilities mature and expand, so does their ability to reason about moral issues. If we can begin to understand the ways children reason about moral issues, it might help parents and therapists better attune themselves to each child, so as to help each child develop in a positive direction. By attuning to children, the parent or therapist will be better equipped to reason with children at ‘their’ level of development; otherwise, what the adult is trying to communicate will get lost in translation. If we can learn to speak the child’s language, than we can help each child use his or her ‘logic/reasoning’ to effect change in his or her world. Who are the major theorists in the area of moral development? A few of the major theorists in the field of moral development are John Piaget, Lawrence Kohlberg, Elliot Turiel, and Carol Gilligan. Gilligan is a brilliant feminist psychologist who is best known for her 1982 work, “In a Different Voice” (see http://www.amazon.com/In-Different-Voice-Psychological-Development/dp/0674445449/ref=lp_B000APQF3Q_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1335926229&sr=1-1). Turiel is best known for developing his ‘domain theory’, which is discussed in his exceptional work, “The Development of Social Knowledge: Morality and Convention” (see http://www.amazon.com/The-Development-Social-Knowledge-Convention/dp/0521273056/ref=lp_B001HD1YF4_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1335926449&sr=1-2)...

... People sometimes say that bullies are ignorant kids, but they are criminals and they steal other people’s self-esteem. First of all, bullying is a crime, and it can have serious effects on an individual. Bullies harass, make threats, terrorize, and use verbal and physical abuse on their victims. The old saying “Sticks and stones may break my bones, but words will never hurt me” isn’t necessarily true; words do hurt. They may not hurt physically but if a kid already has insecurities, bullies make it worse. It is estimated that 160,000 children miss school every day due to fear of attack or intimidation by other students. A frequently asked question by many is why do teenagers bully? In a lot of cases, teens who bully can be in bad home environments. They can be verbally or physically abused at home, and anger and sadness gradually builds inside of them. They find a way to take it out on people, and they usually take it out on people who they know won't stand up to them. That’s why you see a lot of bullies pick on the quiet people who appear to have low self-esteem. Bullies build up on the insecurities of children and insult their different qualities. Though it doesn’t happen often, bullying can end in a tragic death. A British study reported 44% of suicides occurring in kids 10 to 14 was caused by bullying. Those bullied often remain silent until the emotional trauma is eventually no longer tolerable. Our schools should not allow bullying in any form. If an individual...

...“You just be a gentleman, son.” In the novel To Kill a Mockingbird, Atticus Finch tells this to Jem when he gets angry at Mrs. Dubose for yelling at himself and Scout. My dad told me the same exact thing before every single baseball game I have ever played. He told me “This is a gentleman's game it should be treated as such.” The first time he told me this was after I had gotten hit by a pitch and started yelling at the pitcher When I finally got to first base and my dad told me “You just be a gentleman, son,” I just shrugged it off. I was not thinking of anything other that how to get at the pitcher. I could not think of anything else. So when I got the sign to steal from my coach, Coach Perry, I just stood there like a bump on a log. Coach Perry gave me the steal sign again, and again, I stayed at first. After that pitch my dad pulled me aside and told me to put my head on straight and watch Coach Perry. I finally understood the sign and stole second base. I had to run extra for missing that sign twice....

...Should cursive writing be teached in the 21st century? In my opinion, I think yes, cursive writing should be teached. I think cursive writing is important because not everything is typed. Handwriting is a beneficial factor for your brain and your penmanship. Signatures are needed for a vary of documents, knowing cursive will give you a better stance for signing checks, social securities, bank card etc. Now a days, most paper work and documents are proccessed through technology. However, they are many documents and paper work that need to be writen by hand. From my learnings, the goverment does most of it's confidential paper work by hand because computers and other devices alike can be hacked, but not all teachers do all of the work by typing....

...for thieves to rob banks, steal cars or even leave the house. Computers are thieves’ new weapon of choice. They can hack in to bank accounts in seconds, leaving a person helpless and feeling violated while months are spent picking up the pieces. In this cyber age people do not even have to change out of their pajamas, or brush their teeth to steal every dime a person has. Computers are the perfect weapon because they do not need food, sleep and can be programmed to constantly run, bouncing from account to account ruining every life it touches. With all the theft going on, some are committing suicide because they cannot fix all the damage these thieves have done to their lives. The big Internet crimes reported on the news are kids file sharing music. File sharing is considered a form of theft, but sharing one album compared to thieves ruining lives stealing billions from people who live check to check is like comparing apples and oranges. The creators of technology could not even have imagined all the bad stuff that has become of their dreams and hard work. Computers were built to solve calculations and then kept evolving to help make life easier and more efficient. Trouble started with the World Wide Web, because people started transmitting personal information through the airways. People do not understand some stuff that is sent over the web, one does not have control on who can collect that information. When people are talking about kids stealing music, the first...

...happens. Since when and why has this turned so laissez-faire? It seems crazy to me that most colleges are well aware of the problem, yet do little to educate students on ways to protect themselves. Students in college are targeted more than others, so you would think that the people that run Grand Valley would make more of an effort to keep their student safe and educated. In the fall, there were four cases of sexual assault in a two-week span, so the students made a petition to get safety buttons placed on campus and off campus. The movement was presented to Grand Valley and they declined. After this I did learn that the security guards, absolute security, offered safe walks whenever, but they don’t advertise this. The only negative is that the people who need them the most are intoxicated and calling for a security officer, who could alert police, to walk you is not always a desire. Another reason why I am so passionate for this is that I’m pursuing a nursing degree, I have a strong desire and heart for helping others and keep them healthy and safe, so naturally I want to step in to help situations like this. That is why I am so passionate for making a difference in this and showing the importance of making a change and not just being complacent and accepting the fact that “things happen” in college and this is just one of them. I believe college students and people my age should be interested in this. They shouldn’t just think of themselves, they should think, “is this something...

...against our constitution or our stated laws. The sin of theft is an all encompassing sin that could be used to describe any sin. If you kill a man, you steal his life; If you lie to him, you steal his right to the truth (Hosseini). All three of the stories don’t portray what you think of when you envision theft, but they envision the hosseini definition from the kite runner. In one they portray the theft of life, in another they show the theft of security. The theft of sin was a major theme in all of these stories either through the classic form of theft or the hosseini definition and each one shows how theft is the only true sin. The story “The Bet” shows theft in more than one way. In the form of tangibly stealing something that someone else owns, and also in the more subtle way of...

...Abstract: Plagiarism is theft. There are many forms that plagiarism can take, but the results are the same. Students plagiarize for many reasons, some innocent, some not so much so. Time management and study skills are essential tools to avoid plagiarism. Plagiarism can, and should be, avoided on student’s behalf. Plagiarism The world-wide-web is exactly that, world wide. This means there is a veritable plethora of information about anyone or anything you can imagine as well as many websites where students sell their work to others for a small fee. Using these particular sites is not the problem; the fact that most of the time copy and paste are used next is. This is a form of plagiarism or using another’s work as your own. Plagiarism is a widespread problem in universities as well as online. In this essay, we will examine exactly what constitutes plagiarism, why plagiarism happens, and what the consequences of plagiarism can be. A group at the University of Missouri at Columbia School of Journalism says that plagiarism is: “The use of any part of another’s writing and passing it off as your own.”(Shotz, 2008). The Merriam-Webster dictionary defines plagiarism as “to steal and pass off (ideals or words of another) as one’s own: (another production) without crediting the source, present as new and original an ideal or product derived from an existing source.” When a student plagiarizes, he or she takes what someone has put time and effort into...

...doing it right now. So, the question is should gay marriage be legalized? I believe not just because it is not how our parents were taught and how we were taught about how marriage is supposed to me. Including also most people these days tend to date the same sex just because there previous relationships didn’t turn out right like how they wanted it to, either they were cheated on a lot and left with broken hearts or just they believed they was not attractive enough due to self-esteem issues. So, people tend to turn gay because of this, they believe that they will find a more faithful relationship and believe its love when there just trying to heal a broken heart they have. Also in this day of age our kids are continuously being exposed to many bad influences while growing up. So, why do we need to have our kids witnessing this? That it is okay to date and marry the same sex when in the bible it’s a sin. It says in Leviticus 18:22 that ‘You shall not lie with a male as with a women, it is and abomination.” It also says in verse 24 and 25 Leviticus that “Do not make yourselves unclean by any of these things for by all these the nations I am driving out before you have become unclean.” “And the land became unclean so that I punished its iniquity, and the land.” Just in these few lines in the bible tells us that loving the same gender is a crime and will be punished for committing this sin. Now, yes we commit sins daily like lie, steal, curse and etc. Even though this is a...

Some people will say that he should go to jail while others say he shouldn’t. If the boy went to jail he would have to serve his trum in there and at a young age that is not good. The American Justice System is not fair because the result of jail can lead to dangerous things, schools are changing, and how people change in Circle Justice. The first reason The American Justice System is not fair because of the results lying in jail. In “Restorative Justice and a Better Future,”by John Braithwaite it says, “his drug habit for the next 20 years.” This is good information because it decide how jail had effected a teenagr and...
