Dear Miss Evans, I think that schools should start later because kids wake up late sometimes when they are trying to go to school. This means that the problem is that the kids need more time when they wake up to get ready for school. schools should start later because kids have said that they are tired in class and that they need more sleep. There are multiple reasons why schools should start later. Evidence for my claim is that there are pictures on the gale of them showing kids that are yawning and trying to stay awake in class. There are also pictures of the kids walking to school when the sun is rising. This shows that the kids are going to school early and that they need more time to get up and be ready. Also, they need more time to sleep because …show more content…
But since schools start early they haven't been getting the sleep they need and this is bad because in the article it states ‘The proper amount of sleep is important because it helps the body stay healthy.” This proves that school starts early so then kids don't get the amount of time to sleep they need for school. Also they have ten hours but since school starts early they don't get that ten hours and usually go below the ten hours. And if they want to be healthy, then they need at least the proper amount of sleep. The final piece of evidence is in gale and it states, “Doctors with the CDC have found that a lack of sleep in children and teenagers can have a negative effect on their health.” This can be bad for them in many ways that can affect their health and their life. This shows that if they don't get the right amount of time to sleep, then it can have a bad effect on them. The bad effects are that there might be a high rate of obesity, use of drugs, and use of alcohol. This proves that they need to start moving the school start time later because it can have bad effects if they don't get the right amount of

Why High School Should Start Later Research Paper

...Should high school classes begin later in the day and end later of the natural sleep clock? No because teenagers have jobs in the afternoon when they get out of school and teenagers don't want to be late for there job. Some people have kids they have to go pick up after school at a certain time of the day. If we go to school later in the day it will be so many hours we have to stay in school, people probably tired and have stuff to do after school. Teenagers have practices for sports or any type of activities in school and they have to be there a certain time. In my opinion classes shouldn't start later or end later of the because it will stressful to get things done in the day. Mostly, teenagers that are in high school have jobs...

Why High School Should Start Later

...Jenah Cooney May 15, 2012 College English/Surinak Senior Research Paper Period 2 Wake Up Later and Your Grades Will Be Greater High school is a part of every teenager’s life whether they like it or not. Although it is not a requirement; most, if not all, teenagers will experience at least one year of high school. With the experience of high school, students will also go through waking up early sometimes at five or six a.m. The starting time of high schools has been highly debated for several years. Those who debate this topic usually dispute on whether or not changing the time would be beneficial. Psychologists estimate that as many as 30% of children may have a sleep disorder at some point during childhood. Sleep disorders have implications both for social-emotional adjustment and for school performance. For this reason it is important for both parents and educators to understand how sleep works and how disruptions in normal sleep patterns can affect children and teenagers. Starting school just a half an hour later would benefit the most families and students, and also to accommodate for teens' sleep needs. One of the main beneficial topics to argue for starting school later is attendance. Schools should start later because it is proven that students will have higher attendance. If students can get more sleep, they are more likely to attend school on a regular basis. Studies have shown that after puberty, teenagers require more sleep, around nine and a half...

Accounting Professor

...Accounting Brooke Beyer, Don Herrmann, Gary K. Meek, and Eric T. Rapley ABSTRACT: The purpose of this paper is to provide a concise career guide for current and potential doctoral students in accounting and, in the process, help them gain a greater awareness of what it means to be an accounting professor. The guide can also be used by accounting faculty in doctoral programs as a starting point in mentoring their doctoral students. We begin with foundational guidance to help doctoral students better understand the “big picture” surrounding the academic accounting environment. We then provide specific research guidance and publishing guidance to help improve the probability of publication success. Actions are suggested that doctoral students and new faculty can take to help jump-start their academic careers. We finish with guidance regarding some important acronyms of special interest to doctoral students in accounting. Keywords: career guidance; doctoral students; research; publishing. INTRODUCTION igher education faces a severe, and growing, shortage of accounting professors. As a result, the job prospects for new accounting doctoral graduates are very good and are getting better. Starting salaries are increasing, but so are the requirements for tenure and promotion. In particular, the requirements to produce more and better research are growing in most schools. An ad hoc committee of the American Accounting Association ͑AAA͒ was formed approximately five years...

Smartphones at School

...for life after school, we should allow them to use the tools they will be using when they get there. How many jobs can you think of right now where a smart phone is not beneficial? Mechanics order parts on their phone, engineers view blueprints, doctors calculate dosages, and grocers check inventory. The list is endless. By the time our students enter their professions the need to utilize mobile technology will be even stronger. Not preparing our students for that world is negligent. Tests that are so lacking in rigor that students can look up answers on a phone or get them from another student are lousy and outdated in a world where information is free and easy. We need to get used to the fact that kids don't need to know "stuff" nearly as much as they need to learn to use that "stuff." Tests of recall don't prepare our students for the world ahead. Kids know this - it's why they think school is irrelevant. Kids working together to find solutions to problems (collaboration) should be encouraged, not labeled as "cheating." Policies that ban cell phones because students might text each other are short-sighted. As Kevin Honeycutt is fond of saying, "Students used to pass notes on paper. We never banned paper." 2-The smartphones also allowed pupils to access revision websites, log into the school email system, or transfer electronic files between school and home. The study by researchers at Nottingham University involved 331 pupils in schools in Cambridgeshire...

...Should Special Needs Students Be Exempt from Graduation Test Misty A. Clark AED/200 September 16, 2012 Kimberly Jackson Should Special Needs Students Be Exempt from Graduation Test The debate of should special needs students be exempt from taking Graduation tests has been going on for years. There are facts in which shows these students should be exempt from these test because these test are based on normal students’ knowledge. The standardized test is based on what normal students have learned and on their comprehension skill. Special needs students should not be exempted from taking this test to graduate because it will help with their self-esteem and also will give them a higher level of knowing what they can achieve. The Bureaucrats and Politicians who passes these education laws on which test the students has to passed to graduate or even which grade they need to be in don’t put into consideration on students with special needs or students who haves English for a second language. Bureaucrats and politicians has padded a law called “No Child Left Behind” in which is telling the schools for any reason no child should be left behind and are not giving the school districts the freedom to achieve this. This is putting a lot of stress on the principal, teachers and even the students because there are some students who work at a slower pace than others and the school system is not achieving the score they need to be achieving. Some of the school system is not...
