...LAZARUK My name is Sgt Ben Lazaruk and I am applying for the Glider Pilot Scholarship. I am a level 4 cadet at #6 Jim White cross Squadron in Winnipeg. I am also the 2IC, second-in-command, of Mustang flight and an active member of our squadron’s ground school. I joined Air Cadets with a few goals; one of which was to live out my dream of flying and get my glider and pilot licenses hence why I am applying for this scholarship. I strongly believe that I have the work ethic, attitude, determination and dedication that are required to be successful at the Regional Gliding School in Gimli this year. At my squadron, I always attend extra cadet activities like sports nights, bush exercises, leadership and aviation weekends, glider familiarization days and most importantly ground school on Monday nights. Not only do I have an excellent attendance record but I also have a positive attitude towards the cadet program as well as everyone that is a part of it; I am also very respected by my peers. In recent years as a cadet, I have had the privilege to attend three different summer cadet camps. These cadet camps were the General Training and Basic Leadership courses in Penhold and the Basic Survival course in Cold Lake. Outside of cadets, I attend Miles McDonnell Collegiate. I am a grade 11 honors student in the very demanding International Baccalaureate Program. I maintain a very good reputation with my teachers as well as very good marks. I volunteer as a puppeteer and an actor in...

...Cathy Ann Clayton Eng050:W01. 28 April 2015 Why I Deserve this Scholarship Hello my name is Cathy Ann Clayton, and it is an honor to be selected by the University to apply for this scholarship. Eight years ago I would have never imagined that I would be continuing my college education. Due to a health crisis I went through, which we were not sure that I would make it. I came through with a lot of determination, and hard work. Although I am not a traditional college student, I should be accepted as a student and given the offered scholarship because I am a worthwhile choice: I have overcome obstacles, I can bring a new perspective, and I can demonstrate my financial need for the scholarship As you know, I’m not your typical college age student. I am a 54 year old finishing my education, after overcoming a huge obstacle several years ago. It’s taken long time and a few boulders to climb over to get to this point. Eight years ago I had a nervous breakdown due to the loss of my father. This loss affected me tremendously, and I spiraled into a place no one should go. I have worked with a Psychologist to get through the dark place that I was in, which took many years. Two years ago my Therapist introduced me to a treatment, call Dialectic Behavior Therapy. Dr. Marsha Linehan created this therapy to help people think and respond to life differently.” DBT therapy is a broad-based cognitive-behavioral treatment developed specifically for Borderline Personality...

...The topic I chose to study is the argument of the payment of college athletes beyond what is received in scholarships. This topic has become more prevalent recently because the NCAA has been contemplating changing the policies for compensating college athletes. This is due to the fact that people are starting to view college athletics as more of a business then just a program at colleges and universities. The research question that is posed based on this topic is should colleges and universities pay their college athletes for participating in a sports program. I have found many sources on various databases. These sources present information on both sides of the argument. Some of these sources give some background information and show how...

...INCREASING SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM EFFICIENCY 1 Increasing Efficiency in a Community College Scholarship Program Margit Brumbaugh Concordia University Portland An Action Research Proposal/Report Presented to The Graduate Program in Partial Fulfillment of the Requirements For the Degree of Masters in Education/Educational Leadership Concordia University Portland 2011 INCREASING SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM EFFICIENCY 2 Abstract This action research was designed to increase the efficiency of a community college scholarship program. The research developed in response to a desire to increase numbers of scholarship applications from students and to streamline the selection and financial reconciliation processes at the research site. The literature search revealed these aims to be common among community college scholarship programs nationwide. Data was gathered through surveys, interviews, and observations. Data analysis suggests that passive information on the part of colleges, lack of student confidence in qualifications, and lack of student awareness of the differences in scholarship criteria are significant contributing factors leading to low rates of application. Data related to recipient selection processes show that committee training, the use of multiple reviewers, and the use of consistently-applied scoring rubrics increase selection efficiency. Results suggest further research possibilities to determine the extent to which various scholarship marketing strategies, and the manner...

Post this list and explain why you believe these courses will broaded your perspective on diversity and add to your lifelong skills in two paragraphs or more. Introduction to Psychology Introduction to Sociology Introduction to Philosophy I believe the listed above courses cover a broad range of topics directly related to diversity. Psychology studies personality and perceptual mechanisms that influence behavior. Sociology provides an understanding of human social interaction, social groups, social structures, culture, and social inequality. With philosophy, areas such as morality, free will, and the meaning of life are explored. Interaction with other groups will occur throughout life whether it be a job, school, neighbors, social events, asking for directions. A strong and diverse knowledge has always been important to understand why someone may hold a specific view on a topic or to engage a conversation with someone you may not have otherwise socialized with. Since learning is continuous, it is always best to have a foundation of understanding that can help break through the inevitable communication barriers in the future. All of this research emphasizes that these athletes deserve to take a small share of this multi-billion dollar industry. Keywords: university, college, athlete, compensation, corruption, payment, student, NCAA, money, sports, salary The Controversy of Payment to College Athletes In several recent events, there has been a reoccurring trend in college athletics involving student athletes being paid money or given other incentives to play sports for a certain university. This is always making headlines in sports news and is highly frowned upon, which makes it a very controversial subject. Should college athletes receive a salary or payment of some sort for competing? That is my question for you, as well as the question several thousand student athletes wonder about every season. Well, the answer to this question is not...

...Leadership Paper Cassandra Eisengart Waynesburg University NUR 518 I began my journey to become a nurse in 2006 when I graduated high school and entered a nursing school in Akron, Ohio. Thankfully, upon graduation in 2010 from Robert Morris University I was able to quickly find a job that would lead me to wanting to advance my career further and get my masters degree in nursing. Without the many programs made available because of willing nurses to become educators, a lot of us would not be where we are today, myself included. Many people think about the nursing shortage when it comes to bedside nursing and nurses in hospitals. Few rarely think that in order for a person to become a nurse they actually need other nurses that are willing to teach them. As the baby boomer generation gets older, we have to keep in mind that this is also a lot of our nurses in the field right now. According to the Administration on Aging by 2030 there will be 72.1 million people in the United States age 65 and older, which will be about 19% of the population. This number is compared to just 12.4% of the population in the year 2000. Again, not only do these numbers show the advancing age of our population, it shows that a lot of the nurses that we have in the work force right now are going to be retiring within the next 10-15 years. According to the National League for Nursing, in 2007, one out of five nurse educators planned to retire within 3 to 5 years. Unfortunately...

...Describe key areas of the selected company's code of conduct that are of significant importance to the business, and explain why. There are several areas of the Cheesecake Factory’s code of conduct that are of significant important to the business. Initially, I would like to bring your attention to the protection of the company’s confidential information. This is in consideration that mishandling such information could place the company’s objectives at risk. This particular section also points out that it is each individual employee’s responsibility to help in preventing the innovations and ideas generated within the company from falling in to the hands of our competitors. Next, I would like to point out the Compliance with Company Policies and Procedures. The importance of this section is based upon the foundation that everyone within in the organization, as I mentioned above, is responsible for and expected to foster a collaborative environment that is driven by mutual respect for one another. The other important section I would like to discuss is that of the Cheesecake Factory’s Standards within the code of conduct. I find this to be of the upmost importance because it sets forth the legal expectations for the entire company and its members. In detail it provides guidance on how the company’s officers, directors, and each individual employee interact within the organization. This portion of the code helps establish the core element that we want everyone to walk...

...Some of the arguments against affirmative action include: * It is unfair to judge applicants on anything other than their merits. – There are numerous factors that a college should take into account when considering applicants – grades, test scores, and extra-curricular activities. An applicant’s race is not a legitimate factor to take into consideration because it is outside of the student’s control. It is impossible for a college to consider every aspect of a student’s background when making decisions on whom to admit. Why focus on race when there are so many other things that differentiate students from one another? * Affirmative action does not lead to true diversity. – Diversity of opinion is important in an academic community, not racial diversity. Affirmative action provides an advantage to some people because of the color of their skin. This is not an attribute that is relevant to the academic mission of a college. Affirmative action gives preferential treatment based exclusively on race, which is a purely external characteristic. * Affirmative action does not help really disadvantaged groups. – In many cases, affirmative action does not achieve its goal of helping disadvantaged minority groups. What it does is perpetuates socioeconomic inequalities by making it easy for members of racial minorities from privileged backgrounds to get into prestigious colleges while not helping members of the lower classes. * White Men Win $11 million Lawsuit for Reverse...

...the Influence of Athletic Scholarships Abstract The purpose of this research was to examine whether scholarship play a role in academic success by identifying the motivation of the students toward their classes and the influences of being an athlete. The identification was investigated using surveys and interviews. Most college athletes made it clear that their motivation academically comes from their concern about a successful future. A successful future in this place is having a good job, earn good money and have a successful business. As if they were to fail in sports, they would still be able to make a good life with their records in academic fields. So their first priority is a good academic status. The results also identified how being an athlete could hurt them academically. Introduction I decided to do this research because I’m interested in getting a scholarship to play basketball and I would like to know how things work and could possibly affect my academic performances at that point. Scholarship athletes are expected to work hard and dedicate more time than the walk-in or try-out players because they need to maintain their good performance to keep their scholarships. I’m studying in Thailand as a 10th grader. I started playing basketball a couple years ago. At first I was just playing for fun and exercise, but since I was asked to join my varsity team, I started to like the game more. My love to game developed to the point where I wanted to take it seriously...
